The apartment was very well furnished.
3.5 / 5.0
The apartment was nice, everything we needed was there. We had breakfast at the hotel, which was excellent.
The apartment was not as clean as we’d expected, there were peanuts under the sofa from former visitors. Not a big problem, but not really nice. And the view was horrible: all you could see was the other side of the not too pretty building. The apartments at the other side of the building have a view of the garden, that was okay.

Our four person apartment was nicely sized with a good central space for gathering in the living room, dining table and kitchen. Nice furniture and kitchen supplies, we were able to cook a few meals. Wifi worked throughout the apartment. Check-in was very easy at the hotel next door and the staff were helpful.
We couldn’t get the heat to stay at a comfortable temperature, it seemed to return to 16 every night which felt quite cold.

It was spacious and had cooking facilities. Easy entrance and easy access. We could park our car and walk to the duinen.
The pictures on the website show the exterior of the part of the hotel which is not the part where the apartments are, which is misleading and made it hard to find the entrance. The apartment was not so clean when we found it. In advance of booking we were told towels would not be provided, but we didn’t consider that we would need to bring our own dish soap for example if we wanted to use the kitchen. This was not clear and we were not prepared.

Getting to Texel from Den Helder only took 30 minutes and we could stay in the car the entire time (so no contact with people). We were lucky that despite it supposedly a busy time (christmas-new year), because of the partial lockdown in the country, there were very very few tourists around. Of course this was not good for the tourism sector of the island (sorry!) but this was excellent time for us.
Apartment/hotel was easy to find and check-in went smoothly. A great service being provided: a cart to take luggage to the apartment. Also, well-thought out is the broom for cleaning muddy/sandy shoes after a walk and before entering the apartment complex. The apartment came with the standard kitchen cutleries, a dishwasher, and a combination oven-microwave. Very useful! The hotel has a restaurant from which we could order take-out dinner. The 3-course vegetarian dinner (delivered to our apartment!) was really nice; I certainly recommend it.
Walking and driving around was a joy even with the cold, wind, and rain (there was a storm). The hotel/apartment is perfectly located - right on the edge of the National Dunes Park and beach - for walking/hiking. The apartments were not all occupied so it was pretty quiet. Our apartment's living room opened to an outdoor area facing the woods, which had a bike and walking path next to it.
The island itself has excellent areas for outdoor hiking/walking, fit even for children. Driving around, we saw that there were also a lot of places that offered outdoor activities for children and families. i think these are perfect for summer holidays.
the only thing i did not like was the fact that the "free cancellation" wasn't quite "free" because this only applied up to two weeks before the date of the stay. In our case, the partial lockdown in december was announced too late to satisfy this 2-week requirement and and the new corona policies was not acceptable as a reason for a free cancellation. (Luckily our stay went well, so no regrets.)
One minor thing about the apartment: the exhaust in the bathroom was not really strong. Maybe because it was winter but after one shower with warm water, the entire bathroom stayed wet from the steam for more than an hour despite the non-stop automatic exhaust and designer wall radiator. (Other than this, the bathroom is nice and spacious.)

Great location, great apartment.
Absolutely nothing! Everything was very good.
