Great location, comfortable rooms with a view of the sea and woman of the house, who was friendly and engaging with our limited Japanese and her I phone with a translator. A rare experience to engage with a truly charming local. The bathroom was a bonus.
Should highly recommend, require, a visit to Kosanji Temple, hill of hope and the cave of a thousand Buddhas, all walking distance from Suminoe.

Sea view room looks out on the Seto Inland Sea. Beautiful. Comfy beds on the floor with super warm comforter. Did not have dinner, breakfast was ok. Staff super friendly, host used Translate app efficiently.
Rice pillows? I don’t see the point of these. Not comfortable.

Very nice room, perfect location along the Shimanami Kaido if you are biking it in 2 days. Nice little town with good options for dinner
The pillow could be more comfortable

Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Lots of different courses, all delicious and traditional japanese
Nice setting and internal garden.
Attentive service. Felt quite petsonal and family run
Good bike storage ( we stayed overnight when cycling the Shimanaido Kaido)
The onsen was relaxing.
The pillows were very hard.
Very hot water from tap in room - needs a warning notice.

Traditional stay. Welcoming to the children. We had a sea view room which was beautiful.
It was great! But kids found the rice pillows very hard.

Great stay at Suminoe Ryokan with very kind staff.
Pillows are not comfortable enough but everything else is fine!

Very friendly! The owner recommended us an excellent teppayan nearby. As it was raining the even organized a transport by car. Thank you very much.
Nothing to say.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Excellent dinner in our private dining room. The ryokan has a lovely garden and has a very relaxed and somewhat old fashioned home-like feel. Breakfast also excellent.
Slightly limited number of sockets for putting in chargers for phones etc. But there was enough for us.

Really lovely, ryokan in a perfect location for us. We rode the Shimanami Kaido as a family and it was very close to the route. We had a spacious family room with sea view and our own toilet and wash basin. The hot spa (onsen) was wonderful for soaking our tired bodies. The staff were so lovely, especially when we arrived soaking wet after riding in the rain. We ate at the restaurant next door which was great. Would recommend it!
Nothing. we loved everything.

The welcome, the room, the staff, the building.
I can't remember something I didn't like.

excellent location right on the water. we stayed during a multi day cycling trip. could park bikes out the front securely. shops including a bottle shop and a few restaurants nearby. we had dinner and breakfast at the ryokan. very fancy formal dinner in private room. onsen was excellent. staff very polite, friendly and helpful :)
there were some very noisy people in the room next to us that were up having very loud conversations for many hours from 0300!! very frustrating and inconsiderate.

Very nice place, the staff was very nice and helpful !

The property is near to the jetty.
There is no attached bathroom.

There’s Japanese hospitality, and this was definitely extra! Super helpful staff and a beautiful place that evokes the Spirited Away magic with the addition of the ubiquitous lemon (yes, the fruit) culture. Nearby restaurant 日本料理 まきの and it’s lively chef was the lemon on the top of the cake. Definitely recommend.
Be careful not to use a second pair of shoes while leaving your first pair of shoes on the rack as you might get locked out after 10pm as they will think you’re in your room 🤣

nothing. it was 50 minutes by car from onomichi station so I didn't go. my mistake but ridiculous location.
see above.

The staff here was very accommodating and their service style was warm and welcoming. I ordered the breakfast and it was a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. The onsen was also very nice and you get to walk through the beautiful courtyard garden to get to it. Finally, our room had a beautiful view of the water and you can watch the sun set from it.
Nothing.

The host was lovely. She had a Japanese treat waiting for me in the room fridge, and helped me use the onsen on property, which was a gorgeous walk through a garden. Fresh pressed Yukata in the room to wear to dinner and the onsen. There was a restaurant directly next door where we ate both dinner and breakfast the next morning. And, the property is right on the water! Cute little town, great stop midway if you are biking the Shimanami Kaido!
The only thing I can think of is a light dimmer or a night light, but truly it was a spectacular stay

Dinner and onsen were lovely after cycling the Shiminami Kaido from Onomichi. The garden is spectacular. I wish there was a way to enjoy the garden from the ladies onsen.
I hav to remember to bring my own soft pillow to a traditional Ryokan. But otherwise was great!

very nice dinner

Pretty and well maintained ryokan about halfway through the Shimanami Kaido cycling route. The view from the sea facing room was gorgeous. We had dinner and breakfast there, which were both delicious (local seasonal Japanese food). They have an indoors onsen, and a place to park bicycles inside.

Very nice staff, lovely place, nice views & garden, perfect location, onsen.

Loved the service and the room. Very traditional with all the comforts.
Great seaside view.
The Onsen was a welcome relief to tired muscles.
It is being renovated and had to go around tradesman, no carpet on the floor.
Whilst being the only guest the restaurant was closed and advised to find somewhere up the street...which were all closed.
