The location of the house was perfect. We enjoyed using the kayaks, canoe and paddle board provided. We also rented a boat for one day to explore the lake and were able to easily dock it. Having a small refrigerator down by the dock was very convenient. We also enjoyed making snores at the fire pit. There was plenty of firewood available.
The house was very clean and spacious and the kitchen was fully stocked. The front porch was the perfect spot for reading and enjoying our morning coffee while looking out at the lake.
Carol is an excellent host who made sure our stay was perfect from start to finish. We highly recommend this property!

My family and I had a great stay! We stayed here to enjoy the water and waterside fire pit and for some of our group to go skiing. The slopes were about 40-60 minutes away so completely doable. The hosts were very friendly and even helped us feel more comfortable when we made a request. We all had a wonderful time!

The property is simply fantastic. It was not only beautiful but was also very spacious. We had 7 in our group and never felt crowded. The owners made us feel welcomed and were always available for questions and advice. We loved the place so much that we are already planning a trip back in the summer.

We loved the location of the property. Lake access was great. We loved being able to bring a boat to the dock provided . The upstairs bedroom facing the lake could really use some blinds , the sun beams in early in the morning with no curtains or blinds . We had two preteens staying in the downstairs area . I did not feel like the air conditioning was working properly in the downstairs area . It always seemed to be hot downstairs. We loved having the kayaks and paddle boards to use.

Beautiful house and great location on the lake. Enjoyed the lake access and boat house. Second time staying here, and would stay again.

Hilltop Hideaway was a lovely home that housed our family this week. We were a family group of 9, with ages ranging 7-73. The lakefront access is exceptional with a large covered dock, kayaks, a canoe and paddle board. We used the lakefront fire pit, graciously furnished with Adirondack chairs and GOOD firewood several times. The location is remote, but we loved being at the end of a channel.

Our family of 10 enjoyed a nice weeklong stay at the lake. The hosts were so gracious and helpful. The property was well-kept. It was one of my favorite vacation spots/rentals that I have stayed at in the past 10 years. We will definitely be returning.

Wonderful house. Quit and peaceful. All my kids had a great time. So nice to have two separate areas. Downstairs great for older kids who stay up late. Upstairs for early to bed and early to rise kids. We loved the dock with all the water crafts. My kids did hours of fishing of the dock! Carol was easy to communicate with. Great place we hope to return!

My family loved the breakdown of bedrooms and ratio to bathrooms The dock had several watersports and a great area for a bonfire. Three separate dining tables and an awesome kitchen to cook for everybody. Extra bonus was a bird had laid her eggs in a nest behind a pillow on a chair on front porch. Love that nature was so close. We will absolutely be back.

The lake house was magnificent. The hosts were very helpful. They answered every question that was asked, they left out towels, and hand soap to be used, and every bed was furnished with pillows and blankets for my group and I. I only had two complaints, the first was that, as the listing description states, the house as no cell service and we relied on the WIFI in the house for any task such as loading directions in our phones to venture into town. With several people accessing the WIFI at the same time, it bogged down becoming unusable when one person was making a phone call. The second and less serious complaint was that the pull out bed downstairs had a horizontal bar that poked into the ribs of the person that was sleeping on it.

The lake house was spacious (3 bedrooms plus a basement apartment). many amenities and well equipped.
The grounds were well kept. The firepit by the lake dock side was fantastic to warm up in the evening roasting marshmallows.
The area is amazingly beautiful and peaceful. A great place to escape and recharge your batteries. No cellphone reception but satellite TV/internet.
Carol was very helpful and responsive.
Overall, a great time. Will repeat.

This beauty is set above a lake, tucked Hmong the trees. It features a grand living room with two story ceilings and a nice place to relax after a hike or kayak ride.
The home provides all the amenities needed for an enjoyable retreat. The host is amazingly informative and very friendly. Such a pleasurable stay.

Beautiful home! My family and I truly enjoyed our stay. We loved the front porch, the fire pit, and hanging out at the dock with the kayaks and paddle boards. Only two things the hike to lake (well back up the hill) is brutal but we got use to it and the up stairs bedrooms are a little warm. My son said there wasn’t much AC up there. But we loved spending our time together in this gorgeous home on the lake we will definitely be back.

My family and I were excited to see that the house was just as advertised, with fantastic amenities on the water such as a boat dock, kayaks, canoe, fishing gear, etc. The house was in great shape and provided ample room for all seven of us. The close proximity to local wineries and marinas for boat rental is superb. A+

After a wonderful week at this beautiful location I did not want to leave. The home and property are beautiful. Very peaceful location with beautiful view. We got much use of the kayaks, canoe, paddleboard and parked our boat at the private covered dock, and one day pontoon boat rental. Long ride from NJ but absolutely worth the trip, Carol and Tom were available to answer any and all questions. Perfection - THANK YOU

Hill Top Hide Away
Our family had a wonderful time together during our stay. The cove is quiet and it was like we had the whole cove to ourselves. The water toys they had at the dock were such a nice treat. Even though we brought our jet skis, the kids enjoyed the canoe, kayaks and water pad too. The covered dock was perfect for a break from the sun. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Plenty of space for us and the view from the front porch was very relaxing. When we return to Watauga, we are definitely booking here again!

Great Weekend at the LAKE!
Tommy and Carol’s Hilltop Hideway is a gem! They are great hosts! The house is amazing! Don’t look at any others. Reserve this one. Steps away from the lake with a beautiful dock that we used the entire trip. The fishing is great and the cove is so quiet and private . We brought our pontoon boat up from Fish Springs for the weekend. The covered dock was perfect. The canoe, kayaks, and paddle board were great for short excursions. Great place for family and friends to gather and have a fun weekend.

Awesome!
This house is perfect for large groups! Plenty of beds, linens, and space. The dock is the best part, space to bring your own boat in a covered slip! Definitely will be back again.

My family and I enjoyed our stay. We rented a pontoon for the day. I highly recommend doing that. The entire lake is absolutely gorgeous. We all enjoy mountains and lake and this lake has both. The cove where this property is located is absolutely the best. It’s private and quiet. The house has everything you need. From pots and pans to paddle boards, canoe, and kayak and everything in between. The front porch is where we had our coffee and breakfast every morning. The steps and Hill can be challenging but don’t let that turn you away. This house and the lake and the cove is well worth it. The owners are available - but we had no need to contact them during our stay. I highly recommend this property.

I have used VRBO for over 10 years for at least 2 trips per year and this house is without a doubt the best I have ever rented. The place is isolated and peaceful sitting on lakefront property. The house has everything you will need and the owners were just a text away if you had any questions or looking for a place to go out to eat. BEAUTIFUL just does not do it justy.

We had a really great time during our stay. Our one issue was that there were too many creepy-crawlies in the basement for any of us to feel comfortable using it, so a few folks slept upstairs on the couches instead. That being said, the rest of the house was very clean and comfortable; we had a fantastic stay and would definitely return if in the area with a slightly smaller group. The home was very well equipped to cook meals and grill, and the appliances were plenty large enough for our group of 8. The owner was very responsive and even gave us some suggestions for activities which we did and really enjoyed. We have been to many vacation rentals in the last ten years and this one felt most like a home than any others, and was the most thoughtfully laid out and equipped. The garage was mostly empty and large enough to park in, there were plenty of trash containers - well sealed so there is no odor, there were both gas and charcoal grill (we didn't use the charcoal grill but even noticed there were a couple bags of wood chips for smoking), and plenty of necessities to get us started before we made the trip into town for a major shopping trip.
The waterfront was very well done, with plenty of room for activities on the dock, and a waterfront fire pit area. There were a couple kayaks, a canoe, SUP, swim raft, plenty of life vests. Everything was very clean and in good shape to make for a very fun time on the water. There was room to dock our fishing boat for the week as well. The kids caught tons of small pan fish and a few catfish right from the dock.
The surrounding area was very beautiful and picturesque. We did many day hikes, saw quite a few waterfalls - some with swimming holes and rock ledges to jump from, biked the VA creeper trail, fished a few of the surrounding trout streams, and made a few small scenic drives through the mountains. We all had a fantastic time and would be glad to come back again!
