About this house rental

Limeni, an extremely charming, small sea side village, with a wild landscape. Rocks, hard white stones torn by the sea and the wind. A unique place in every step of each fortunate visitor. It's the small harbor of Areopoli, the pirate port of the bay. Where the famous greek pirate Petrobei Mavromichali leaved. His palace, which has been turned in a museum, where now days painting exhibitions take place. Areopolis, 5 km from Limeni, the capital of the area, is the heart of the peninsula of Mani , with its medieval past, with a lot of legends and traditions, town of Ares, ancient god of war. Limeni it’s a place for all year around : There are amazing Byzantines footpaths among canyons, olive forests, naked hillsides arriving to small Byzantines churches, monasteries, venetian castles, beaches with beautiful and very clean waters. The bay where Limeni is situated, has been inhabited since the Neolithic period (4500 – 2700 BC approx.) Very close to the famous Caves of Diros, one of the most important in Europe, with its splendorous colors, stalactites and stalagmites, containing an underground lake which you can visit with a flat bottom boat. Walking through ancient ruins with lovely mosaics on the way to Cape Tenaro, the southernmost part of the Peloponnese, where you can find an automatic lighthouse. Visiting the most dramatic village of Mani, Vathia, with the deserted stone towers . During summer you can swim to impressive beaches like at the bottom of the peninsula, Marmari and Porto Kagio with its fabulous waves, or to the small private island of Kotronas passing through a strip of sand , to the very charming Nimfi between high rocks. To the bay of Limeni very often we swim with the company of the turtle Careta Careta and we are diving near a venetian shipwreck, dating since 1700 ac approx. You can rent pedalo, canoe, wind surf. In a distance of 40 klm you can visit Mystras, the famous monasteries in Sparti, in 80 klm you can reach Monemvasia the medieval city and castle of Peloponnese, the beautiful Nafplio and the Mycenaean tombs for one-day excursions . Our house is located just beside a byzantine monastery, in front of the sea, where all around the year you can admire a very romantic sun set seating in the garden. During summer you can swim just in front of it. The nights are splendid with a sky full of stars and fabulous moon light . You will feel in a world where happiness and joy of life reign supreme.

This is one of the only two houses that can be rented in Limeni directly on the sea (e.g. not Hotel or apartment). The highlight is gorgeous waters and swimming, especially for those who prefer rocky beach to sand. Deep blue clear water at the house. We were swimming from the house to the main "beach" in center of town, with three children 9,9,11 (there are buoys for resting). It also has great views and nice sunsets. This scenery justifies the price and the 5 stars. Right next there is a taverna for fresh fish. But for really good fish or other food its best to head to other villages (Limeni is sort of a quiet elite place for Greek celebrities, and occasional mega-yachts at dinner time, but thats not where the food is best). To get to swimming area, we pass right under the taverna terrace, so there is some lack of privacy on the path, but the swimming area is far enough so privacy becomes OK once there. Certainly much much better than a busy beach. In one week, there was only once that we had to share the swimming area. The owners are very nice, and welcomed as at the airport, gave lots of advice, and were very responsive. Unfortunately, a dispute happened after the visit due to some minor damages that we could not figure out who did, and the resulting overreaction between perhaps very protective parents and perhaps very attached homeowner. But things happen, and life goes on, and we forget that. The main problem with the house is no air-conditioning (AC), and no ceiling fan in the master bedroom. This issue needs to be addressed with preferably an AC if we were to return back. That said, we are an American family who cannot live without AC. A huge positive is there is good parking in the house.This is extremely important in Limeni. We had a wonderful time, and hope to be back one day.

JOLI MAISON LES PIEDS DANS L'EAU DANS LE CHARMANT VILLAGE DE LIMENI

L'endroit est idéal ! la maison est quasiment la dernière maison du village qui est traversé par une seule et unique voie en sens unique. Elle donne directement sur la mer depuis la terrasse ou l'on peut se prélasser après être aller se baigner. L'environnement direct de la maison est calme avec une vue magnifique et la maison est très bien équipée, notamment au niveau de la cuisine. Elle est également très propre. Le village est également très charmant avec plusieurs restaurants aux menus intéressants. La communication avec la propriétaire (Clairie) que nous n'avons pas eu l'occasion de voir mais avec qui nous avons été en contact avant la réservation (par mail) et lors de notre arrivée (au téléphone) a été très facile et très agréable. Nous avons été reçu par la femme de ménage qui nous a donné toutes les informations pratiques nécessaires concernant la maison et c'est également elle qui est venu pour le check out. Je recommande vivement ce lieu pour une famille ou deux familles d'amis avec des enfants disposant de véhicules car c'est nécessaire. A ce titre, il y a d'ailleurs deux places de parking privées disponibles devant la maison. Si l'occasion se représente nous reviendrons à Limeni et chez Clairie. Valerie Gicquel et Fadel Arjdal
