About this house rental

Weeks of 9/14/24 and 10/19/24 still available! Lovely waterfront home has uninterrupted views of marshlands. Swimmers will enjoy jumping off the dock into the swift current of the creek. Children can spend countless hours crabbing from the dock directly behind the house. Birders will enjoy frequent sightings of blue heron and white egrets. Or, launch our kayak directly off the dock and explore miles of waterways.

The property has two large docks with a swim ladder; the covered patio offers complete shade and respite from the sun; a rooftop deck offers spectacular views. The house is crisply decorated and has central air conditioning. After a long day at the beach, rinse-off in the enclosed, hot-water, outdoor shower to refresh before dinner. Enjoy a family BBQ (gas grill provided) and outdoor dining in the lovely backyard with incredible views. Large screen TV, cable, DVD/blu-ray player, high-speed Internet. Two kayaks (1 single, 1 double) will be available for use, as long as renters continue to treat them well and not lose the paddles :)

What to bring? Everything fun to take advantage of the waterfront location, e.g. kayaks, fishing rods, crab traps, water floats, umbrellas, beach chairs. For land-lovers, bring your bikes for biking up and down 7-Mile island.

Stone Harbors famous beaches are a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the house. Quaint shops and lovely restaurants are a 10 minute walk into town. Walk across the street to the Wetlands Institute where children can enjoy many wildlife programs and touch animals in the live feeding tanks; adults can view the nearby nesting osprey, take back bay boat rides and enjoy lectures about the Wetlands. Cape May, an historic Victorian town, is a 20 minute drive south on the Garden State Parkway. Visit the Zoo, a 10 minute drive north on the Garden State Parkway. Take the kids to enjoy a day of amusement rides and water parks at the Wildwood boardwalk, 20 minutes south (rides appropriate for children ages 3+).

Beach passes required for those 12 and older from late May until early September. Four beach passes included.

The 3 boat slips on our waterfront are rented separately. These boat renters may walk thru the side of this property to access their boats during their stay.

No young adult groups and no pets, please. We look for renters who treat our home as if it were their home. Bring your own sheets, towels, toilet paper, paper towels, dish clothes, and napkins. Blankets and pillows provided. Cleaning service included in cost of rental. Saturday to Saturday rentals only. 1 week minimum.

50% is required with a signed lease. All balances must be paid in full 30 days prior to check-in. If reserving less than 30 days of start of rental, all payments due up-front. $75 booking fee. $75 per week accidental insurance fee. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, BUT WE DO NOT DO NIGHTLY or PARTIAL-WEEK RENTALS.

This property books 8 months in advance, so don't delay in making your reservation! Repeat renters get first dibs on their previous year's week. I begin to take reservations in November for the following summer.

What a tranquil spot with great water options. We kayaked almost every day, quietly gliding near the nesting Laughing Gulls and Osprey. Both kids and adults enjoyed swimming off the dock. The house was very clean and accommodated our group nicely. I especially miss my morning coffee and my sunset cocktails on the dock, as egrets and skimmers hunt for their next meal. We will be back next summer!

We have stayed at Suzanne’s Stone Harbor waterfront home three times, most recently in Oct./Nov. 2017. As always, her house is clean, cozy, welcoming, functional, easy; and at this season, all is quiet, everywhere. Inside: All beds are superbly comfy, as is furniture. The well-equipped kitchen pleases those preferring their own meals. The large den TV screen makes for fun sports watching, the living rooms screen is big enough for movies, and there’s a Roku device with plenty of free content and a fine sound system, too. At breakfast or lunch, one can watch snowy egrets plumb the shallows for eats, and observe the wind vs. tide upon the back bay waters. A modern laundry station fills any need. Outside: Nature’s secret – ocean water cools off slowly and is not yet cold in Oct./Nov., so you can still paddle/swim safely if you know what you’re doing. If it’s not too windy, the intrepid can still kayak off the back deck. (Hint: Call ahead to get the “Jersey Island Blueway” map for two bucks from Harbor Outfitters on the main drag.) Near high tide, one can swim at one’s own risk. In either case, just dress for the 63° water. Landlubbers can enjoy the deck chairs at water’s edge or table and chairs on the outdoor patio. We don’t outdoor grill, but it’s there for the sizzling. The area: Walking and hiking possibilities are unlimited -- from the door, walk through town to the ocean and endless beach in 20 minutes or explore back streets; short drives take you to paved boardwalks, national wildlife refuges, the Delaware Bay, and more. There is excellent, reasonably-priced seafood nearby for sit-down, take-out or cook-at-home (New-age-y Matthew’s in Cape May Court House, or longshoreman’s style Rick’s Seafood, take-out only in N. Wildwood). For family-styled/huge-portioned Italian, Nino’s in Cape May Court House is champion (among best eggplant parmiagiana we’ve had). A multi-screen theater is now open in town, 10 minutes’ walk from your door, the new library is open (renters can borrow videos/books/music). And in addition to, or as a break from, the seven Cape May wineries (Natali Vinyards is our fave), craft beer brew-pubs are proliferating (we got to four, of which we preferred Cold Spring’s lighter, traditional brews over the hop-heavy IPAS and porters we sampled at Cape May, Slacktide and Seven Mile breweries). The owner: Suzanne, though usually not local, is a thoroughly professional and responsible owner who palpably enjoys sharing her home.

First of all, it took me a month to write this review because it is hard to describe the joy we continue to feel while staying in this home away from home that is perfectly situated just off the island on the back bay. 5 generations ago, our ancestors were among the first non-native settlers on 7 Mile Island. In fact, my cousin's great Aunt was the first baby born in Avalon. Her name was Avalon Corson Kandle, and her parents won the prize given to parents if the first baby born there--the prize was a free lot. My aunt's father and grandfather built a cottage across the bay on 88th Street in the mid '20s. So, you can understand how much the island means to me and the rest of my family. We have been renting homes on and off the island for decades, and this lovely home is the only one I wish to return to again and again. We also rented it in May of this year and will return next spring. The home is just the right size for a family and its guests. There are three bedrooms that sleep 6 upstairs, and a large dem/media room in the lower level that has a pull out FIFA, another sofa as well as a loveseat. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the owners plan to remodel it in the near future. The patio area is perfect for barbecuing. They not only have a deck that offers a perfect launching place for kayaks and paddle boards, but they also have an upper deck with plenty of chairs and a table to enjoy the sunsets. There are kayaks that the owners generously provide, including a very comfortable tandem. The deck is great for fishing and the owners also provide crab traps. There is nothing like the calm quiet mornings out on the deck, not to mention the fantastic sunsets! We so appreciate being able to walk from the house to places such as the Wetlands Institute, located just across the street, and to stroll across the bridge into town. No need to search for a parking spot and keep feeding those meters! To readers who are not yet familiar with this wonderful island and surrounding area, some favorite places and activities we have enjoyed over the years include; the award-winning Cape May County Zok up the road in Cape May Court House, the Csoe May-Lewis Ferry, the Sone Harbor Point at Hereford Inlet, the Cape May slight House, the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, the Stine Harbor Museum, the alpaca farm in North Cspe May, the zlobster House Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf in Cape May, charter fishing on the Never Enuf out of Avalon at the Avalon Fishing Center.

We had a wonderful family vacation at this home in Stone Harbor. The home is well maintained and had everything we needed. The guys enjoyed fishing from the dock and setting crab traps. They caught shark and sea bass and had a good fight with some huge flounder! Use of the kayaks was another great perk. The view of the sunsets each evening was fantastic. The home is just over the bridge to town and the ocean beaches. We hope to return next year!

What a fabulous location for enjoying the water on kayaks, walking into town for coffee/ice cream, enjoying quiet and lovely sunset barbeque dinners on the dock, and sleeping peacefully in the evenings. A very sweet house that was both charming and had all the amenities of home. The house was nicely furnished, including comfortable beds, a bright, open and airy feeling throughout the home, and great views of the water. We loved the location and easy walk to town, in addition having the use of kayaks was great as the water ways were fabulous to explore. Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay at this home and look forward to returning.

From the outside, this house does not appear to be "beachy", but the pictures do not do this rental justice. The house was spotless upon arrival, and the beds were as comfortable as my own (even the pull-out sofa bed was extremely comfortable). The outdoor grassy yard, dock and floating dock was great for dining, crabbing, fishing, and swimming. The use of the kayaks was a bonus for us (our two teenagers were on them almost daily). And the views from the back dock were simply spectacular! I was a little hesitant renting a house that was not directly on the island, but realized I had nothing to worry about! Getting into town was literally a walk over the bridge; we make the walk almost every night. We did drive to the beach, although it really wasn't necessary. I just didn't want to walk through town with chairs and an umbrella. If we did walk, I would estimate it would take about 20 minutes. The house was also stocked with games, puzzles and books if you forgot your own or were stuck inside on a rainy day. The kitchen was very well stocked with all the amenities of home; I agree with other reviews that it could use some updating. It was the only space in the house that I would say was a little disappointing. But it was very clean and functional. I would rent this property again and would recommend it as well. It really is a gem.

We had a wonderful time at this adorable little bungalow. If I were to say anything negative, it would be that the kitchen could use a little upgrading, but we had such great weather, that we cooked and ate almost every meal outside on the patio with that amazing view of the water. The two living/family rooms and backyard provided plenty of room for our two young boys to play or watch a little TV, and the downstairs and outdoor showers were perfect after a sandy day at the beach! Our family loved crabbing from the dock, kayaking almost every day, the close proximity to town, and of course, the beautiful beaches. The house was clean upon arrival and was stocked with everything we needed for a fun-filled, relaxing week.
