Historical information :
The house was built during the unification of the city of Tours in the 12th c., as part of Henri II Plantagenet's city wall project. It belonged to the Commandery of the Order of the Knights Templar. The oldest remaining parts date back from the 15th c. The main building is set over two storeys of vaulted cellars from which several underground passages allowed inhabitants to escape and find refuge, for instance in the Cathedral.
Joan of Arc is said to have stayed there when she came to Tours in 1429 to have her armour made by Master Armorer Colas de Montbazon whose workshop was in the same neighbourhood, in the Rue Colbert.

Everything is there! Very good double bed, well equiped kitchen and a fantastic bathroom. Only thing that could be improved, two comfortable easy chairs (feauteuils) in stead of the bed couch.

This historic apartment is minutes away from restaurants and bars. No need to use the car to explore Tours. Further afield,Villandry Chateau is a must. The gardens are beautiful. The small town of Amboise is also worth a vist. We loved the Chateau of Chambord.

Désolé, la majeure partie sera en anglais. Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour dans cet appartement. I was sorry not to meet Jean-Philippe in person but we communicated a lot through VRBO. He was very kind about making alternative arrangements for a friend of his to let us into the apartment when our arrival was earlier than his availability. The shower and tub are super cool (and the hot water was delightfully hot, which was great after a rainy, cold day) but definitely takes getting used to in order to get the water to drain properly. We had to help paddle the water into the drain a bit, but it was worth it. We so enjoyed going to Les Halles and cooking at the apartment and had fun watching a DVD on the surround sound big screen during a rainy day. We enjoyed using this lovely location as our home base as we toured the Loire Valley.

This is indeed a luxury property less than one minute walk to the best restaurant street in Tours. The apartment was a total rebuild of an old stone structure and has many designer touches. The large projection TV is situated for viewing from the king size bed. Parking is at a lot less than one minute walk away. The Loire River is 3 minutes away on foot. You can easily walk to the riverside restaurants during the warm months. Ten foot plus ceilings and highest quality appliances. You will enjoy your stay at this property. Very well situated for drives to many of the Loire Chateaux.

Jean-Philippe the owner met me upon my arrival and showed me everything I needed to know about the apartment. It was super clean with lovely appointments, furniture, towels. Kitchen appliances etc. As I was in Tours for a French language course, I spent more time in the apartment than the average tourist. I also did not have a car but there is private parking….a luxury in Tours. The neighborhood is very convenient, close to a Carrefour for groceries, lots of restaurants and everything in the center of Tours. There is a lovely garden but the weather did not cooperate so I did not use it. Now for some of the criticisms of other guests. First the shower. It is true that if you are not careful the floor can get soaked by the rain shower, but I managed to use the shower curtain in such a way that the floor stayed dry. The owner also provides a very easy to use mop if necessary. Others complained about sharp edges on some of the furniture. That was true as well especially if you have young children staying but for me, I was just careful and when I went to sleep I moved the coffee table (it’s on wheels) so that I wouldn’t walk into it during the night. There is plenty of space for clothes and there is a very large bathroom, unusual in France.
I would highly recommend the apartment for either a person traveling alone or a couple. If I return to Tours, I will definitely rent the apartment again.

After a long and tiring day of travel, arriving at Les Jardine Des Amandiers was a wonderful and pleasant surprise. Jean-Philippe was very welcoming and helpful with recommendations. The apartment had everything you could possibly need to ensure your stay was comfortable and the location very convenient. It was also a very beautiful apartment!

We loved the location and the free secure parking. There were a few negatives. One was that the website claims air conditioning and there is none. There are many sharp corners on the dining table, the coffee table and the bed. The shower results in a lot of water that you must mop up each time you shower. There are little steps up to the bed and then to the bathroom that are a concern in the middle of the night. The property manager was great but we will not return,

This apartment is a hidden gem. It is well located within the center of town, so close to the restaurant's, walking distance to the railway station, and the parking makes it the ideal location to explore the region around tours. We stayed for several nights, and it was the perfect base to return to. The design of the apartment is idyllic. Nothing better than sitting outside, enjoying the fading sun with a glass of the local wine.

Well equipped modern apartment in a 14th century building, a bit of a paradox but it works beautifully. The apartment is in a secluded courtyard with gated access and has its own allocated parking space in a nearby parking lot. The old quarter of Tours is literally just around the corner and the Loire is a two minute stroll. A perfect base for exploring Tours and its surrounding area at a very reasonable price.

The apartment was amazing - beautifully appointed, clean and well-equipped for an extended stay. Location is excellent. In the heart of the old town, half a block to the Loire River, shops and cafes. 10 minute walk to Gare de Tours as a great hub to explore the Loire Valley by train. Host was excellent; great communication from start to finish, friendly and helpful. I will definitely look to stay here again if/when I return to lovely Tours. Thank you Jean-Philippe and Marine!

Exceptional
We rented the apartment at 16 rue des Amandiers for three weeks this past October/November. The apartment was exceptionally comfortable, neat, and clean and beautifully appointed with all of the modern conveniences of home.
An added bonus was the private parking space within a gated area that was included in the price of the rental. It made it convenient to park our car without the hassle of having to find a spot in one of the nearby narrow streets. That was a real benefit, especially after a long but enjoyable day of sightseeing.
The apartment was ideally located near great restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and historic sites in the lovely town of Tours, all within walking distance. The train station, gare de Tours, is just a 15-minute walk away.
Although we weren't able to meet the owner, Jean-Philippe, his goddaughter, Marine, greeted us and showed us around.. She was extremely kind and helpful in getting us acclimated to our new surroundings.
We considered Jean-Philippe's apartment to be one of the highlights of our trip to the Loire Valley and we recommend it highly to anyone planning a trip to that lovely area of France. We'd return in a heartbeat.

A lovely oasis near the cathedral
This apartment was all it claimed to be and more - spacious, quiet, and elegant. Jean-Philippe was helpful, responsive, and flexible about check-in and check-out times, which I greatly appreciated. If you like to cook, the well-appointed kitchen is a bonus.

Second stay was wonderful!
This is the second time we have stayed at Jean-Phillipe's beautiful apartment. It is a perfect location in a fantastic city. The apartment is exactly as described and very peaceful, in a perfect location to explore Tours and the surrounding Loire region. Jean-Philipe is a perfect host! Merci Beaucoup!

Great Central Location
Firstly we had a good holiday, we enjoyed the area and the ambience of Le Jardin des Amandiers. However we had expected air conditioning as advertised. When we had the booking confirmation it was explained that it was more of an air circulation system rather than air conditioning. We arrived on a hot day and the temperature inside the apartment was well above what was promised. Also there was no ice compartment in the fridge. Otherwise it was well equipped, comfortable with a good bathroom although the shower flooded the bathroom so we took baths.

We really enjoyed our stay in Le Jardin Des Amandiers and highly recommend this accommodation to a single or couple who want to be right downtown in Tours.

A great apartment in Tours
We stayed here while attending a French language school. The apartment is well furnished and maintained, and the owner was very helpful upon our arrival.
France was experiencing an heat wave while we were there. Although the apartment has no AC, it stayed relatively cool despite the extreme temperatures outside. We would definitely stay here again.

Best stay ever!
Jean-Philippe was waiting for us on arrival and welcomed us into his beautiful apartment. The apartment is exceptional in its design and every detail has been thought through from the gorgeous bathroom with super large tub, rain shower and mood lighting to the wooden clad kitchen and dining area. The outdoor space is wonderful as are the neighbours! Just a 30-second walk and you are on a street full of bars and restaurants galore or a couple of minutes in the other direction takes you to the Cathedral, Château and the Musée des Beaux Art with its stunning gardens (http://www.mba.tours.fr/), but the apartment is so quiet you could hear a pin drop, an amazing restful place to be. Tours itself is full of vibrancy and life especially if you hit the longest day when the streets fill with Fête des Musique - free music around every corner! Fête des Jardin at the Domain Chaumont-sur-Loire (http://www.domaine-chaumont.fr/) absolutely blew our minds - thank you Jean-Philippe for recommending. We were greeted with friendly faces everywhere we went. We will definitely return and stay in Jean-Philippe's apartment again if he will have us! Thank you so much, this has been a holiday to remember.

Thank you Jean-Philippe for a wonderful stay in your excellent apartment. Warm Regards, Jill & Harry
On our arrival our host Jean-Philippe met us with a warm welcome. Patiently he made sure that we were well informed about the operation of the modern appliances with which the apartment is well equipped.
Located in an interesting part of Tours close to the cathedral and many restaurants, the apartment provides a tranquil secure haven near the Loire River. Jean-Philippe has created a special environment and is clearly keen for his guests to enjoy it.
We stayed for one week and loved every moment in the apartment and in Tours.
