About this house rental
Guests enjoy the downtown location, and close proximity to Hillsdale College. Everything is within walking distance!
Apartment 21 is at the top of the stairs of a Historic Victorian Building Built Circa 1854. It is next to the laundry room , which guests have access to.
Bought in 2006 by new owners, the building is constantly being repaired but with the goal of preserving its Historic character. Every effort is being made to save, and in some cases recreate or restore, its unique features such as antique hardwood floors, original woodwork and moldings. Also has a full kitchen, bath, & living room. It is completely private!!
Apartment 21 is located in the main part of the house, upstairs, on the second floor.
It has a kitchen which includes range, refrigerator, microwave and Keurig coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, just like home! If you don't feel like going out to eat, you don't have to! The bedroom is cozy, perfect for two, with a 1920's metal bed in the bedroom , and a handcrafted wood twin sized daybed in the living room.
The bathroom is finished and complete with a nice sized shower, sink, toilet and tile floor. The living room of the apartment is a great place to relax. It boasts an oversized daybed, loaded with pillows, very comfortable and a 43" TV with Roku. In one corner a desk and comfortable chair are perfect for catching up on office tasks or homework. Across the room, sits an old gliding rocker, also very comfortable. A bay window looks down on the street and nearby buildings and lets in the sunlight during the day. At bedtime, pillows are removed from the daybed and it becomes an extra bed for a third person, adult or child.
It is a self check in, keyless entry (room code is sent the night before check in). Check in is typically anytime after 4pm, and check out is by 11am. Owner Nancy and her assistant Rebekah both live nearby and can be reached via phone call or text if you need anything. You will find each of our team members (housekeeping included), whether it be in person or via phone, to be friendly and caring.
Built before the Civil war, this apartment house is almost 200 years old. As such, it has all of the charm, and quirks, that old houses bring.
The Heart of Hillsdale, Circa 1854, was the home & offices of Merton Fitzpatrick, a prominent Hillsdale lawwyer and one of the founders of the original Republican Party.
Built before the Civil War and at the beginning of the Victorian Era, the house has features of both, the simple boxy lines of a Pre Civil War Building and some Victorian flourishes.
After the Great Depression In the 1930's the building was converted to an 8 unit apartment building for lower income families..
Today 6 of the 8 apartments serve as a Comfortable, Reasonable and Convenient short term place to stay for Hillsdale Visitors. The two remaining apartments are leased to long term tenants who understand and love old houses.
Across the street from city hall, post office, fire and police, 1/2 a block west are the town shops & eateries. 1/2 a block south, take a walk in lovely Stocks Park.
The bike path is 100 feet from your comfy, complete apt. Sleeps 1-3. Could sleep 4 if you bring a cot or inflatable mattress.
The community laundry room is on the second floor. Laundry hours are 7:30am to 10 pm. Please contact Nancy's assistant Rebekah for Laundry room keycode and instructions. Phone numbers are provided upon booking.
A 4 yard trash receptacle is provided in parking lot for your convenience.
The 16 step stairway in the center of the building may be an issue for some adults and young children who should always be supervised on the stairs.

I lived in Hillsdale my whole life until the last 5 years. I know the area very well. This house used to be a "drug house," very impressed with how it has turned into a beautiful property. Would like to recommend a few things..it is the "little things" that make it even more comfortable and special, such as, more than one roll of toilet paper in the home, having shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available versus having a little bit in a plastic bottle, didn't have any extras such as salt and pepper, etc. Also had no access to things like extra trash bags, a broom, etc. I know these are not mandatory items, but it does make a difference in one's overall experience. Other than this I was impressed with the overall cleanliness and beauty of the apartment.

Historical house within walking distance of the downtown area. Great for us and adult kids to stay while visiting our son. Day bed is not comfortable but double bed is decent. We have stayed twice now so the price is worth our couple of nights. Host responds quickly.

Yes, it's old but charming and great price. Downtown location. Warm, decent bed comfort, double bed and twin. We will be staying again.
Extra blankets, heater, fan.
Furnishings are old but if you can handle a step back in time and just need a place to lay your head, perfect spot.

We stayed for a couple of nights while visiting the Campus of Hillsdale College. Great location which was very convenient. The space heaters kept the room nice and cozy as the temperature was in the 40's at night. Would definitely visit again.

My husband, daughter and I had a lovely stay and really enjoyed our time in Hillsdale. We were there for Commencement and were so close to everything. We will definitely try and stay here again.

This property looks picturesque on the website. Reality quickly smacks you in the face upon entering the front door. It’s actually a very large and old run down house that’s been converted into several apartments. Ours was poorly furnished/decorated. I would not recommend anything in this building.

This rental is very cozy, equipped with everything you need. The owner is very responsive and provides little extras that really made it welcoming! It is within walking distance of food, coffee house and supplies. There was a little hiccup with checking in but it was resolved by one of the employees. I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back!

Old building, as most in Hillsdale are, so no surprise there. Thin walls, and the neighbors were noisy one night. The bed was comfy and host had supplied water bottles and a few snacks, which were appreciated. The kitchen and living room space were dusty.

Great location / Comfortable Apartment
This property is located at the edge of downtown and 1/2 mile from Hillsdale College campus. Very convenient for walking to locations. The rooms were comfortable and cared for as best a 100+ year old property can be.

Four Week Stay in Historic Hillsdale
I recently booked a four plus week stay in apt. 21 in Hillsdale, in order to be near my daughter for the birth of her son. Owner, Nancy, was very helpful and responsive to all of my questions. The apartment was very comfortable and clean. I loved that it was in the of heart of Hillsdale, affording opportunities for easy dining, shopping, and walking/biking. I would definately book a future stay at this property.

Bait and Switch Spider "Cottage"
Was told the Inice downtown apartment I rented was double booked so switched to a "cottage" ... Which was nothing close to a cottage rather a first floor, spider infested, dilapidated, unkept house in a loud neighborhood. I never was offered credit for the difference in price ($10 a night), didn't receive a booking confirmation and could only reach someone about the property through Facebook. The place had one small air conditioner which made sleeping unbearable, the lawn had foot high, unmowed grass and garbage in it. I spent two hours cleaning and ridding the place of the spider infestation. I was told it was a two bedroom but then said I couldn't use the other room. I left a day early because of the uncomfortable sleeping and rowdy neighbors. A horrible experience and am unresponsive owner.
