About this house rental
Charming, quintessential cottage on directly on the Delaware bay with breathtaking, unobstructed views of the Bay. Absolutely spectacular views of the sunrise. This is the sister property to our other house, The Blue Pearl on Broadkill Beach (VRBO#1163084). Check out our reviews there to see how we host our guests.
We preserved the unique pagoda style house and updated the inside. The outdoor porch connects to the main living area and is where you'll spend your mornings, meal times, and game times. Dining table easily accommodates 6. Additional seating area on the other side of the porch with couch and papasan chair and ottoman. Superb view of the bay with huge windows all around and the luxury of being screened in! We've seen dolphins swimming in the bay from the porch. Windows on the north and south side allow for cool, refreshing cross breeze.
The outdoor deck is expansive and perfect for morning stretches or yoga. A new outdoor sectional is available for outdoor lounging.
The main floor is open and well-suited for family fun. Comfortable couches and sitting chair. All with beautiful views of the bay. The kitchen was completely remodeled in 2021 with brand new appliances, including a new built in microwave, and dishwasher! We also have a new flat surface range oven. An outdoor gas grill is available for use. An indoor 4-seater table is also present in the main area.
Appliances: refrigerator, washer and dryer.
Two bedrooms are upstairs and sleep 4 comfortably. One bedroom has a queen bed. The kids' room has a twin over full bunk.
The upstairs full bathroom is completely renovated and has a shower and tub. We kept the original purple bathtub as a classic reminder of the original Beach Plum.
The third bedroom is downstairs in the enclosed lower level. We call this the "Captain's quarters". There is a queen bed and large sitting area with a luxurious leather sectional. There is also a separate keyless entry door access to the lower level outdoor lower deck/beach.
Please bring your own linen; bring bedding, pillow cases, and towels (indoor and outdoor). You'll need your own blankets/comforters as well.
Specifically bring the following:
lower level master bedroom: queen set (fitted sheet, flat sheet, 2 pillow cases);
upstairs second bedroom: queen set (fitted sheet, flat sheet, 2 pillow cases);
bunk room: twin set (top bunk: fitted sheet, flat sheet, 1 pillow case); full set (bottom bunk: fitted sheet, flat sheet, 2 pillow cases).
Please also bring kitchen hand towels. We will provide one roll of paper towels, and one roll of toilet paper per bathroom (2).
We will provide laundry detergent, trash bags, a clean sponge, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, and hand soap in all bathrooms.
The laundry room is in the lower level and has a new washer and dryer. A second full bath also on this level in the laundry room.
We have a spacious outdoor shower. It is absolutely perfect for washing off the kids before entering the house and very rejuvenating without the kids! Please rinse off before coming back into the house.
Beach access is right off the deck onto the marked path or street side right onto the path. We are directly on the beach. No other houses are between us and the beach.
This house is our gem and is perfect for reconnecting as a family. We love it.

I wanted to surprise my wife and kids with a last minute getaway before school started and this was just what we needed! Couldn't ask for a better location. It was very peaceful and quiet and the beach was just steps away from the house. We loved waking up and going for a walk on the beach and then eating breakfast in the sun room while enjoying the beach views. It was so relaxing and just what we needed! The kids didn't want to leave.
And the communication with Monica was great! Very quick and responsive.

Great for small to medium sized family. Fairly well equipped kitchen (could use a baking sheet or two and a ladle). No crowded beach! Several beach chairs, umbrellas, toys available. Nice table in sunroom for family meals, although needs treatment for ants. All in all a very relaxing time.

This was our second time staying at Monica’s place. We had a great time once again. The house is clean and comfortable for our family of 4. It’s a great location with the quiet privacy of Broadkill Beach while only a short drive from plenty of restaurants and stores. I’m sure we’ll be back again!

We enjoyed the beautiful clean home and the quiet private beach. The owner was also very helpful and communicative. When our children wanted to go out for entertainment, we learned that most things are a 30 minute drive, but it was good for them to unplug and to enjoy a slower quieter pace most of the week. The water was warm and we enjoyed ghostcrabbibg and crab fishing at a nearby spot and visiting the Broadkill store (best donuts ever but weekends only!) Be sure to bring bug spray to the beach and then you’ll love this place!

This was a perfect place for a peaceful getaway. The house was very clean, and just the right size for my family and I. It is beautifully decorated as well. The beach was beautiful, and the sunrises were amazing. Sitting and having coffee in the morning on the sunporch and looking out over the water was absolutely incredible. This was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. All of the beds were very comfortable as well. Monica was a perfect host, and communicating with her was very easy. We will definitely be returning here!

We've stayed here 2 times before with my in-laws and it's perfect because there are two living areas on separate floors (bedroom, bathroom and TV space). Importantly, this home has very easy access to the beach, not something that is true throughout Broadkill, sadly, due to erosion. This has a nice boardwalk right next to the house, and then sand -- all pretty level out to the beach. No huge drop-off, so the beach is VERY easy to access for young and elderly alike.
The home is cozy but not fussy. The hosts react to suggestions we've made in the past. We love Beach Plum!

Beach Plum was exactly as advertised: a little slice of heaven on quiet and picturesque Broadkill Beach. Three of us - two adults and a teenager- spent Memorial Day weekend at the house and it could not have been better. Very comfortable and plenty roomy, the house has a wonderful view of the water and is right on the beach. The home is more than well appointed for a getaway. Monica was great and made the whole process very easy. Looking to make a visit to Beach Plum an annual retreat!

This was the perfect location for us. We enjoyed the water views and watching the distant ships make their way across the bay. The house was a cosy and comfortable basecamp for birding trips to Bombay Hook and Prime Hook wildlife refuges. It felt quite private yet not isolated.

We had good weather for mid-October, but even if not the views from indoor are super. You can hear the relaxing waves, and we all agreed that the naturalized dunes are far more appealing than beaches where the dunes are bull dosed. Rather than non-stop seagulls you instead hear song birds living in the dunes. Cute well kept house.

My husband and my in-laws rented Beach Plum for a long weekend. It was the fourth house we've rented on Broadkill and this may be our favorite. The beach access is excellent (no huge drop-off due to erosion). The house is great for four adults as there is a bedroom (and bathroom) on the same level as the kitchen and another bed/bath below at ground level, allowing for some privacy. The house was spotless and had plenty of plates, silverware, pots and pans, etc. Beautiful views of the water from the enclosed porch and the living room (and the outside deck, although we were there during Ian so we didn't use the deck!). Lovely place!

Nice views but the jellyfish made the bay unswimmable so we ended up having to travel to other beaches to enjoy the water a lot more than we’d planned. The house was small for our family of 5. We’d opt for Lewes or Rehoboth next time.

So many good things to say... the host, Monica is first rate and communication from her was excellent, both before and during our stay. The property itself is bright, clean and comfortable and is exactly as depicted in the photos. The back deck is large with nice furniture and a great view. The beach is great: large, private and uncrowded. Even on "busy" days it wasn't busy.
The only issues we had were nature related. One was the flies. On most days there weren't an issue but on the days when the wind blows out to sea - we had two of them - the flies made their presence known. And you can bathe in Deep Woods Off - they don't care.
We also had two days where we were unable to swim due to jellyfish. Given how much fun we had in the water the other days, that was disappointing.
Overall though a really great place to spend a week!

Cozy and comfortable stay
We enjoyed our stay at Broadkill. The house felt like "home" immediately when we arrived. Our host Monica checked in with us and always responded promptly. We enjoyed the broadkill general store. Very good pizza and probably the best donuts ever!!! Very quiet town and we always felt safe.
Only negative blaming mother nature were the bugs. The mosquitoes were out during our trip so if you are thinking of staying make sure you wear long pants and sleeves while getting into the car while leaving. Also bug spray bug spray!!! Flies on beach were bad during our stay since wind was blowing from the preserve. When it wasn't, we loved the beach and water. So private. Heaven on earth! Those bad fly days we waited until it was clear out or just headed to rehoboth beach. Thanks again for sharing your lovely home with us!

Perfect!
Just what we wanted for a relaxing family vacation. The house is exactly as described and very clean. Monica was very easy to communicate with. We loved having our morning coffee on the deck and the easy walk to the beach. The Broadkill Store was so convenient for lunch and ice cream. Our kids did not want to leave, so we hope to come back next year!

We had a great time at this cottage. The beach was private which was wonderful. We didn't feel comfortable swimming because of all the horseshoe crabs but had fun dippng our toes and relaxing by the water. The sand was great and many castles were built. Only complaint would be the bugs.

Just Plum perfect
An ideal vacation home. Just a few steps to the private beach, surrounded by the birds and a wildlife refuge, and within convenient striking distance to Lewes, Cape Henlopen and Rehoboth, we even took a day trip to Chincoteague. The beach was pristine, with warm water, decent shells (we even found a shark tooth), and some straggling horseshoe crabs. At night, we enjoyed hunting ghost crabs and roasting smores. The house had everything we needed, was spacious, and offered beach views from the deck, 4 season porch, and living area. Just a note on bugs, as it was on our mind when we booked: the mosquitos can be brutal when you're on the ground grilling or making your way to the beach, but repellant and/or a brisk pace solves it. In general, they can't handle the breeze on the beach or deck. And biting flies weren't a problem.

We loved our time here! Steps from the beach, tons of horseshoe crabs, sand crabs and ghost crabs! My kids loved it! Catching crabs on the river was great and we were pretty close to Rehobeth for some boardwalk time. Quick responses from host too! My only critique was that the televisions had no Netflix or DVD players. Would definitely stay again.
