I've never stayed in a place as beautiful as this. The village is tucked away in the mountains, with awesome views scenery in every direction. Joseph greeted us and explained everything and was very accommodating. He even brought out a scooter and toys for the kids. We felt at home. We took day trips each day and had a great time. I could have just spent our time in the village walking and staring at the scenery. Great place and great people!

This apartment is in the very center of the small village of Isenthal across from the elementary school. The hosts are very kind and helpful and provided things as stated. It is a great place for hiking which we did every day. The views of the mountains are amazing. Well worth a visit to this part of Switzerland.

Ferien in Isentahl

Trotzdem, hat alles was man braucht!

Perfect for families
We absolutely loved our stay in this apartment! For us it was perfect...it felt like home away from home. Our 3 boys were pleased to have their own bed each and lots of interesting toys and board games to fossick through. Playground and basketball hoop across the road. The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need, it was warm, cosy and the beds were really comfortable. Not far to drive to nearby ski resorts. So glad we stumbled across this little gem, our stay in Isenthal was the highlight of our trip through Europe!

Fantastic!!!
Our trip to Isenthal was a great experience. Maria and Josef are great hosts. Josef was always available and very helpful with everything we asked for. The acommodation was great, definitely more than we expected. You will find literally everything in this house, from a baking paper to toys for your kids. Our 2 years Victoria was delighted with a barn and wooden animals. Isenthal is located 750 meters above the sea level, so when you are driving up or down to Isleten you can enjoy amazing view of the lake and surrounding mountains. I also recommend a walk along the lake in Isleten, because it is absolutely beautiful. We visited Grindelwald, Engelberg, Luzern, Klewenalp (only 10 km away). We enjoyed our holiday so much that we extended our stay for 2 days! Maria and Josef, thank you once again for making our stay unforgetable.
Ela, Jacek and Victoria.

My 3 children and I had a wonderful time staying in this apartment. Plenty of space, toys, books, games, and amenities. The drive up and down the mountain was a little scary the first few times, but we adjusted. The view and quietness of the village was worth the adjustment. The apartment was very clean and the hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. It reminded me of coming home to Grandma's - so comfy and cozy! Thank you!

great place in a beautiful landscape setting
Apartment:
This is a traditional rustic apartment that serves families (especially with smaller kids) well. Most likely you'll spend most of the time outside of the house anyway, but even on a rainy day the apartment can hold you over. The owners are super friendly and very helpful.
Location:
The drive up might be a bit challenging but rest assured that most drivers around you know what they're doing. Across the house there is a school playground which our kids liked a lot. 1/4 mile down hill there is another playground with fireplace that is great for a dinner or two.
Attractions:
For families with kids between 5 and 12 one of the most perfect hikes is at Gitschenen. Drive up to St.Jakob (ample parking space) and take the Gondola up. At the top there is an easy (veru little elevation change) hike through the various types of surroundings Switzerland has to offer (Forrest, little spring, open mountain path). At the half way point there us a little fireplace so don't forget to pack some Bratwurst and Cervolas (hotdogs).
A cruise from Flüelen (about 25min from the apartment) is an awesome activity for both sunny and rainy days. You can go all the way to Luzern (3hr) and take the train back.
If the kids want to go swimming there are a bunch of options on the lake (Iselten, right where you ascent to Isenthal; Seedorf (a larger, more organized spot) or indoors at the Wellwnbad in Altdorf (great for a rainy day).
Fazit:
Great place and the kids requested a repeat next year

An excellent stay in an enchanting village
We didn't meet Martina, but Joseph and their daughter welcomed us. They were really friendly, and were available for any questions, as they stay in the upper floor. The house was really comfortable for six of us,and the baby in our group had some nice toys tò play with. The surroundings are really nice, with some awesome views of the mountains. There is a grocery shop, 2 restaurants a few steps from the house and a bus service that almost comes to the door. :)....There is also safe parking available nearby the house. Only difficulty is to go anywhere, you will have to drive down the mountain , and the road is not very wide. But there was not much traffic through the road, while i stayed. Will surely recommend if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the mountains.

very happy
We stayed for one week, March 2017. It was warm, sunny days.
The apartment was comfortable, well equipped. We had coffee in the yard, enjoying the sun. A lot of toys/games for kids. Also travel/tourist information were available in the apartment. Bedroom had good comfy large bed and large closet. Bunk bed was good for children. Two other rooms looking at the street and school across it. The kitchen is well equipped with eating in table. The cloth washing machine on ground floor comes handy.
Isenthal is small village, about 40 minutes from Lucerne, with 4km drive up the mountain with great views. We wanted to explore small Swiss village, and this was perfect. Across from apartment there is guest house that has good food breakfast, dinner, also nearby hotel, which we did not eat there. As others mentioned a mountain lift is nearby, and village has small store. We did enjoy every minute.

Everything was exceptional. Only wish we could of stayed longer
Our trip was amazing. The Holiday House was very clean, comfortable and centrally located. We only wish that we could of stayed longer. The people in Isenthal are very friendly and eager to please. Planning on coming back and renting the same place next year.

Excellent property on top of a mountain, amazing hosts
Martina and Josef were amazing hosts, very kind and helpful. The house is in a great location on top of a mountain. The drive to the top on day one was little challenging but we got used to it from day2. We took a 5 day Tell pass to explore the region and it was really worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Martina and Josef's place, would definitely recommend this property. Look forward to stay again at this lovely location.

We had a lovely holiday, the apartment was exactly as described, clean and tidy. The road up to the place was very windy which would have been good to know, but the views and the apartment more than made up for that. You definitely need a car, unless you are planning to stay at Isenthal .Lots of nice places to visit near by Luzerne, Brunnen and Schwyz to name a few. If you are willing to travel a bit further afield there are other lovely places. But you could just as easy stay near by and go hiking and there is a mountain you can go up on a cable car. We had a lovely meal at the top of the mountain. Martina and Joesf were very helpful and friendly. In the apartment there were plenty of leaflets for different places, could have done with a few more in English but we easily found some leaflets when out.The people in the village were friendly.

excellent
Have been using Homelidays long before becoming HomeAway for our holidays in Europe.
Isenthal is one of the most beautiful location we ever been to.
The owner, Martina, is very nice, very helpful and the property is ideal for a family of four like ours or for even a larger one, up to 6 people can sleep in.
Everything you need for self catering , we found a LIDL shop about 7 km away for food.
Burt, for me, the best of the best was the road leading to the village, the last 5 km of it, single file road, uphill, with fantastic views over the lake and the mountain . If you go in winter like we did, winter tyres are a MUST!
We'd definitely like to go again, in summer time eventually .
We managed to drive 4 days to Andermatt and make use, using a family card, of the fantastic Glacier Express and of the local trains. In winter, the views are just magnificent .
Can not recommend strongly enough!
Thank you very much Martina for your hospitality .

Stay In Isenthal
We returned after 15 years with the kids. Nice clean apartment in the centre of the village. Great for walking and there is a cable car ride up the mountain thats not for the fainthearted !about 5 k out the village . Good restaurant opposite (check times of opening) bit pricey but the euro was very weak at the time.Supermarket also next to the restaurant which was helpful.Good supply of brochures in the apt and fortunately the weather was great .We were free to come and go as we wished and hardly saw anybody bar the kids in school next door. The cooker didnt fully work and owner informed us it was being replaced ,cant say it affected our stay as we ate out a lot ,picnics etc.Lots of toys and games for the kids which helped. Highlight was a train ride up the mountain in Andermatt ,for movie buffs it is where they filmed the early car chase in Goldfinger.Would recommend and will probably return . A Beautiful Mountain Retreat
This is a great vacation spot! In July, we (4 adults, 3 kids) flew from the U.S. (Austin) to Switzerland (Zurich) and rented a car with a navigation system -- the hour and a half drive to Isenthal is beautiful. The hairpin turns on the road from the bottom of the mountain up to Isenthal are amazing. This particular rental property has the best location in town – it is across the street from the store/bakery/post office, a restaurant, and the school playground; up the street from the ATM and bus stop; and down the street from the village’s other restaurant and Bissig carpentry gift shop. We rented this property for the lovely garden photo, and that is where we spent every morning and evening, watching the wildlife and farmers on the mountain and the sunshine on the snow. Day trips included the Isenthal Bärenweg hike overlooking the village, the Isenthal Bärchi bike trail overlooking the lake, the seilbahn to Gitschenen, the seilbahn to Musenalp (cash only at the top), the beach/restaurant/boats/Swiss Path hike path at the bottom of the mountain (rocky shore, bring water shoes), Altdorf, the Pilatus railway, and Lucerne. Isenthal is also a great opportunity to see the region’s hydroelectric power system and lumber industry up close, both of which have infrastructure in the village. The property owners were very responsive to emails in English and German in preparation for our visit, and the property is as pictured. Note for folks with kids: the bunk beds are in a hallway, and the second bed is a small fold out (the very friendly property owners note that a new fold out is coming shortly).

A place where you always return with pleasure
For those who like mountain landscapes and nature, the life of rustic and quietly villages, here is a perfect place for a holiday. Beside that, you can enjoy the nice local people and most of all the nice and decent host.
The apartment was a large one, clean with a large kitchen and a nice living. I was impressed about the library that was available. All kind of books : literature, books for children and a lot of information guide.
You can enjoy a nice restaurant and a general store which are very close to the property. Also, the bank is very close and there you can find a bankmachine where you can get euro or CHF.
I recommend this place the ones who love nature and hiking. In winter, you can enjoy in the area all kind of winter sports.
Best regards to Martina & Josef.
