Our house is nestled in the quaint town of Fairfax, CA which was just voted in 2011 as the ' Best Town in Marin' by the Pacific Sun.It is a quiet haven untouched by strip malls and corporate chains, yet it is close enough to the hustle and bustle of cities like San Francisco and Berkeley. Take advantage of picnicking in Deer Park, hiking/driving to the many lakes located near the house, strolling through the town of Fairfax, antique shopping in San Anselmo and exploring the other great cities, beaches & activities nearby. A few nights in Fairfax and you just may decide to stay!

I was disappointed to be misled by the description of the property as a quiet haven. It was definitely an adequate place to stay--the beds were comfortable and the fridge, stove, and dishwasher worked fine--but it was dusty, cobwebby, downright dirty in some places and definitely not quiet. It's fine to rent a home in a thriving, lively neighborhood; just don't call it a quiet haven so I know what to expect. We entered to a musty smell in the entry. Each room had artificial plants covered in dust and cobwebs. There was no screen in the lower bathroom window and no vent fan; opening the window for ventilation meant bugs flew in. The kitchen window did not open at all. (Opening windows and running the whole house fan was the only means of cooling.) The window tracks were filled with debris making them hard to slide open. It was hard to see the lovely views through the dirty windows. I had to rewash every dish & pan in the cupboards before use. Noise wise: with windows closed we could still hear barking dogs most of the day and into the night. Daily normal neighborhood noises included someone practicing their saxophone, chainsaws, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, shouting kids, construction, and trash trucks arriving at 5:30 am. A neighbor somewhere had a small dinner party on an outside deck and their conversation and laughter continued past midnight. Without any insulated windows or walls in the house, there was no sound barrier. On the plus side, I could walk to trails. Yay!

Hosts thought of everything. Location close to a gorgeous outdoor hiking spot and near the most darling town. Home is cozy with everything you would need. Highly recommend this home.

The house was well equipped and very homey, with comfortable beds and soft towels. And the shower was like a spa!
Fairfax is a quaint town with good food and the neighborhoods were lovely.
Misty, the owner, was very easy to reach and pleasant to work with.
We had a great time and would do it again!

fantastic relaxing week spent there with my family, plenty of spaces, beautiful rooms nicely decorated. only (minor) issue was the lack of mobile network in the area, but wasn't a big deal as Wi-Fi worked very well.

The beds were very comfortable, the views were lovely and the home was clean. We enjoyed exploring the neighborhood too, we felt safe. Host was great to communicate with. We were concerned because we were traveling in the summertime and this home doesn’t have central AC. However, the bedrooms had ACs in them and so even tho the days in the common areas of the house were hot, we slept great in the cool bedrooms at night. In the mornings and at night, the common areas in the house cooled down too. The host left instructions on how best to use the fans in the house to cool everything down in the evening and we appreciated that. The town of Fairfax is cute and has great restaurants. Would love to visit again!

We really enjoyed our stay here with the kids and us hanging out front for a while. It was a great stay.

This property was not safe for toddlers the stairs, the yard that we were told not to go out on however, there was no gate stopping a young toddlers from walking right off onto a 30 foot drop. We did not even get to enjoy the deck as we kept it hidden so the kids will not get hurt. Due to the sleeping arrangements or whole entire family slept on the floor in the downstairs room which was extremely uncomfortable. When Mom decided to go upstairs with all the snoring and went to get into the bed in the morning found there was dead spiders in the bed. We were not impressed with the location, the binder full of rules or this rental.

We had a wonderful stay and the house is in a perfect location from downtown Fairfax.
Would highly recommend if visiting the area!

Great location close to town and hiking/biking trails. House was great for 4 adults. Very clean and everything worked well. Everything we needed was here. Hosts were great communicators and very helpful.

We had a wonderful stay! The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. We were there for our daughter's wedding at Deer Park Villa and the venue is right down the road...very convenient! The house has a cabin feel and had more than enough room for our family. Saw deer and turkeys in the yard multiple times. The squirrels and birds were fun to watch. Very well stocked kitchen and bathrooms. One thing to know...the streets of Fairfax are very skinny so if you have a larger car you'll need to drive carefully. Would definitely recommend.

Great location for 1/2 to beachs and to SF . Beautiful views and loved The town of Fairfax.
The check out times were a little later and too early. Other than that is was a pleasant stay.

Lovely hideaway in Fairfax
Well kept and appointed house on quiet (steep) dead end street at foot of lovely and cardio-challenging Mount Tam. Comfy beds and plenty of spaces to lounge indoors and out. Small but complete kitchen and some nice special touches (great bluetooth speaker, candy bowl, chest full of small toys our toddler loved to play with). Short drive or longish walk to nicest part of Fairfax with wonderful playground, shops, and places to eat and drink. Great location if one wishes to walk, run, hike or bike directly from the property.

Quiet, comfortable
It was the perfect place to return after a day sightseeing in San Francisco. Very comfortable, had a great layout, and the wildlife that visited was beautiful.

Quiet, comfortable and serene.
We chose this property because of its proximity to family during the holidays and we are so happy we did!! The house is meticulously cared for, the kitchen is well appointed, the beds are comfortable and the shower is great. The outdoor decks look lovely, but it was very rainy and cold during our stay, so we didn’t use them. The owners were very prompt with communications and provided clear, helpful instructions related to the property. We hope to come back to enjoy this cozy retreat again sometime!!!

The property is nestled in a very quiet neighborhood close to town and a wonderful park/lake for great hiking. It would be hard to find without navigation. There is no yard to enjoy but we had daily deer sightings from the spacious deck. The property was clean with a well equipped kitchen if you plan on cooking. The house is dark inside due to the location but has a cottage feel. The only drawback was no central air. If you are looking for a contemporary, upgraded home, this is not the place for you.

Fabulous property! It was centrally located for all of the family activities in the area. The portable AC units in the bedrooms were a Godsend before the house cooled down in the evenings. Great supply of kitchen tools, everything you could need. I will 100% stay here again in the future.

This vacation rental is in the perfect location for exploring the Bay Area and beyond. Tucked away from the bustle of city life, it truly is a ‘quiet haven’. The house was exceptionally clean and well kept, very comfortable and had all the amenities and kitchen equipment we needed. We enjoyed hiking in the local area and wish we could have stayed longer to further explore the shops and restaurants in the cute little town of Fairfax. Communication was easy and the owners were extremely helpful. We will definitely be back!

GREAT LOCATION! Quiet Neighborhood
We rented this house based on it's walking location to Deer Park Villa where we were attending a wedding. The location was fantastic and a quick walk to the venue. Downtown Fairfax was also in walking distance. The house was VERY clean and had everything that we needed for our stay. The owners were friendly and responsive when called when an issue arose. There are many hiking trails nearby in Deer Park which we took advantage of. This rental worked great for us and our stay. Thanks much for sharing your home:)

The house is wonderful, clean and nicely stocked (though we did not see a toaster - we just warmed the bread on a griddle pan). The linens were soft, the pillows nice, the mattresses were good. And everything tastefully decorated - nothing excessive, just inviting and nice. We loved the small marble chess board, and the large bin of kids toys, and Twister. Plenty of tasteful DVDs for evenings and even a nice shelf of books for all tastes. The shower was wonderful - some magical spray combination that was gentle yet massaging - I need to buy one of those for our house!
One thing of caution: very small babies need watched upstairs in the loft, the railing is wide enough that a 1.5yo's head can go through so there's a falling risk. The house has baby gates in the closet to block the stairs as needed.
The outdoors space near the house is off-limits and rocky, and right at the road-side entrance has a steep drop in the ravine that we would watch for, when kids were going through.
Otherwise we felt perfectly safe.
The location is great, for people who enjoy wild nature and just walking around neighborhood and discovering things.
We walked to the Deer Park hikes each day, from the house it is just a few minutes downhill and through the residential street. There's a wonderful wild blackberry bush on the way, full of berries.
The hiking was good for lightweight hikes, and some steeper and narrower paths. Multiple hikes span out of the main one, we only explored some of them, with very nice variation. The main hiking path is wide and you see many mountain bikers zooming past, but everyone is respectful and nice enough.
If you have small kids: coyotes roam there (we saw one right at the start of the hike), plenty of poison oak to watch out for, and we saw a large rattle snake right on the path. All good - nature is wild, but just keep kids close and maybe have an adult lead the way.
We also walked to downtown (20min) though there are no continuous sidewalks so it's harder with a stroller. The Scoop icecream is divine, and there is a small redwood grove park nearby for a nice stop. Tiny coy fish pond near city hall too that will be nice for young kids to see. We saw multiple playgrounds downtown.
Overall, this was a wonderful peaceful retreat. Wildlife abounds nearby - including loud and rambunctious racoons. The neighborhood walks were quaint and sweet.
Definitely recommended!
