My wife and I loved our stay at this location. Everything was as it had been pictured in the listing: vintage and spotless. We really enjoyed spinning some records, playing a few of the retro games, relaxing in the hammocks, soaking in the hot tub and having a fire in the fireplace. Dave was a fantastic host, very responsive to any inquiries. He even had a three ring binder of helpful info on the kitchen table. It included practical info about the property, such as the check-out process as well as some nice-to-know information like his personally written reviews on local restaurants and nearby attractions.
The property has a beautiful view of the mountains with an ideal view of the sunrise over the mountains with Joshua trees silhouetted in the foreground. I had the pleasure of watching a bunch of hummingbirds buzz around the flowering shrubs on the property while I was taking a soak in the hot tub. Other wildlife sightings included a few great horned owls which we saw roosting in a nearby as well as the black tailed jackrabbits they were hunting . I’ve never seen these birds so close. It was a real treat. We loved how quiet the property was while still being close to Joshua Tree National Park and some conveniences like restaurants/gas stations/grocery stores.
We will definitely be coming back for another visit.

This place is cute, comfortable and well located. You can easily jog over to the Joshua Tree Northern entrance, and you're only a few minutes from the Western entrance- essential if you want to be in the park early to avoid the crowds.
The guesthouse is comfortable with a good bed and a sofa right in front of the wood-burning fireplace. The hot tub at night under the stars is divine. Mark is ready to help with questions and needs, and the house is filled with games, entertainment and beautiful decor.
If you want a nice place that is near everything, but not in the middle of everything, this is it.

The guest house was nice and spacious. It had a lovely sound system, variety of exercise equipment, and plenty of seating. We definitely enjoyed stargazing in the hottub at the end of the day.

Beautiful views with lots of outdoor space. Quiet, comfortable, and clean. Very close to everything with quick access to Joshua Tree national park. Loved the bbq and sitting out on the patio at night. The hosts are great! Highly recommend a stay here.

Communication and coordination to access the property was very easy. The location is great for visiting the park and everything in the surrounding area. Stocked with everything you need and some fun extra nice touches like fitness equipment, record collection, fantastic A/V setup, etc. Highly recommended!

A very interesting space - could easily sleep 6. The welcoming notebook has lots of useful information. Well stocked kitchen. Weights, electric piano, fireplace, patio, hot tub, record player…

Perfect location with great amenities. We enjoyed the record collection, sitting in the hot tub under the stars, and by the warm fireplace at the end of the evening. A short drive to the Joshua tree national park visitor center and the Joshua tree saloon for a drink and some food after hiking in the park.

Joshua Tree Hideaway is conveniently located near the national park’s west entrance. The guesthouse is set next to the main house with a view across the desert to the mountains. Comfortable, clean, and pet friendly.

My daughter and I stayed her as a base for a week of hiking at Joshua Tree National Park. The place had everything we needed, and comfy beds to rest and recover every night. We loved the hot tub under the stars. Mark was easy to communicate with and even though the place is close to the main house, there is plenty of privacy. Would definitely return!

We loved our time here. Communication with the host, privacy, the view (lots of windows), proximity to town and National Park were all perfect. We loved the guest house style, the bed and seating were super comfortable, and everything was extremely clean. It had all we needed and more. We appreciated the games, books, host recommendations and hot tub!

This is a great place, and I would definitely stay there again. There is a quirky style about the place that was nice, and a little different to other places. Host was great and everything went smoothly. The property has good separation from neighbors, and the view of the stars on a dark night was great - not quite as good as the "dark sky" area in the JT Park, but a fine substitute if you can't make the trip into the park at night.

Perfect Joshua Tree
We had a wonderful time staying at the Modern Guest House. We loved hot tubbing under the moon and truly appreciated the hosts' recommendations and the comforts of the home. My 10 yo son especially enjoyed the keyboard, vintage typewriter and surrounding nature. We all loved the incredible views. The guest house is private, quiet, well-appointed and in a great location. Highly recommend!

This space was the highlight of our trip! After a full day hiking and exploring, we looked forward to going “home” and relaxing with the hot tub, fireplace, vinyl selection, board games, books, etc. It was the perfect home away from home! Mark was welcoming, responsive to questions, and was the perfect host!

Cozy Guest House Winter Get Away
This was a taste of what Joshua Tree must have felt like back in the late 70s early 80s.
The property felt like i was staying in my old uncles guest house as we listened to his awesome vinyl collection and enjoying the gorgeous view of the valley below.
The newer kitchen is well stocked with excellent cookware. The bathroom had good hot water pressure. The fireplace was cozy and nice. The heater works great. My favorite part was sitting in the outdoor jacuzzi at night watching the stars and the moon.
The property itself is quite large. There is plenty of outdoor space with many different options of where to sit or lounge.
The guest house is set up like a studio with all open living. There is a wall between the kitchen and the bedroom. The bathroom is self-enclosed between the two. The rest is wide open. The other two beds are against the other walls. Its perfect for a couple. While yes it could sleep 4 maybe even 5 (if you counted the couch) but then I think it would be too crowded.
When asked, the owner said the guest house does not share the jacuzzi with the main house. The main house is right behind the guest house but between the hill elevation and placement of windows there is privacy. The guest house was empty when we were there.
For those going in summer, there was a note on the thermostat mentioning the age of the house and it not being insulated to modern standards. In other words, if you are looking for an ice box to hide in during the middle of summer this is not your place.
Also the street the house is on off of HWY62 is a maintained dirt road. It started to rain our last day there and I was afraid my normal city-streets- kinda-car would get mudded in. But it stopped raining. So thats something to consider especially if you drive a lowered vehicle with low profile tires lol
I would definetly rent form Mark and Laura again.
Thank you again for opening your place to us.

Mark & Laura really thought of everything we needed to feel right at home. We stayed Friday-Monday (3 nights) over 4th of July weekend. The guest house is a great size for two ppl. The kitchen had everything we needed, not just the basics, but also a French press, coffee beans grinder, butter and garlic. The hammocks and hot tub were perfect for relaxing in the quiet landscape of this property. Great place. We hope to stay again the next time we plan a Joshua Tree trip.

The location is wonderful, the property is interesting and comfortable. My only comment is the house is very full of items. It would be good to have more counterspace and drawer-space. We found it a little hard to get settled bc there was nowhere to put things we brought with us (toiletries, clothing). But we figured it out and had a delightful time. The patio, the hammocks, the house itself - all wonderful.

This guest house was absolutely spectacular. My wife and I stayed for a week. It is very close to the park entrance and Joshua Tree town. The hot tub at night was magical. We would sit and watch the stars then go inside and start a fire. Some firewood was available and we left a small donation for the owner. I couldn't have asked for a better place. We will be staying here again.
