About this cottage rental
Enjoy classic New England weekends and holidays year-round on Lake Waramaug’s Gold Coast. Waramaug is a Connecticut Heritage Lake, and was pictured in the book, “1000 Places to See Before You Die”.
The cottage is located above the Main House, in a private setting with easy access to everything the lake, and the surrounding Litchfield Hills have to offer. Furnished with a mixture of Mitchell Gold furniture and country antiques, the house boasts two fireplaces, a deck, picnic garden, stone terrace, and a private lawn area.
The living room has a cathedral ceiling, a paneled fireplace, built-in storage and bookcases, a TV, and comfortable seating. The open kitchen is convenient to both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The Master Bedroom has French doors opening to the stone terrace, as well as a fireplace, and an adjoining bathroom. The second bedroom is furnished with twin beds and has access to a large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and shower. There is also an open office/work area with internet access, where one can set-up a laptop and printer. Air-conditioning units are provided and the house has wide-board pine floors throughout.
The Cottage tenants have access to the waterfront and dock, which is shared with the Main House, and is located at the base of the driveway, across the road. The tenants also have the use of a solo/tandem kayak. The Lake Waramaug community takes pride in the meticulously maintained water quality and scenic views around the lake.
The charming New Preston village is a short bike ride away with shops and restaurants specializing in locally grown produce. And, the Hopkins Winery is a great choice for a late afternoon wine tasting.
Annual events on the lake include July 4th fireworks, college and prep school crew regattas, triathlons, and numerous road and bike races.
Within a short walk are public beaches and playgrounds, canoe and kayak rentals, walking trails, a winery and a restaurant overlooking the lake.
A short 25 mile drive will lead to Stony-Brook, a lovely nine-hole public golf course, or in the winter, to Mohawk Mountain, for a choice of 25 ski trails. A little longer ride will provide skiing at Butternut or Catamount and golfing at a number of public 18-hole courses.
Seasonal activities in the surrounding area include:
-Fall leaf-peeping
-Cycling and hiking
-Antique shopping
-Kayaking
-Whitewater rafting at Falls Village
-Lake fishing and Fly-fishing on the Housatonic
-Bird-watching – including American Bald Eagles

We had a truly lovely time staying at the cottage by Lake Waramaug in the early summer months. It was the perfect size for two adults and one rambunctious three year old (would also be great for two kids). Our daughter loved running around outside and eating meals at the outside tables. We also went swimming every day, and saw lots of nature - herons, eagles, hawks, an osprey, lots of fish, and even an otter!
Al is a great host, very responsive to needs and helpful. When it got unexpectedly warm in early June, he showed up with extra air conditioners before we even thought to ask. The yard and house are very well kept - the kitchen is small but has everything we needed, and the half dishwasher was perfectly suited for our purposes. We liked watching movies in the cozy living room at night, but spent most of our time outside.
Our small SUV had no trouble in the driveway, but if you have a big truck (as one of our visitors did) it might be frustrating to navigate the narrow bend on the way up to the cottage.
We really enjoyed our visit to the area, which is one of the most beautiful parts of Connecticut, and we hope to be back!

Frantic calls to verify our first ever VRBO booking failed. Technical difficulties. We called a final time, and voila! “Your reservation is okay with Mr. Albert, Mom Jawn (Jan). Everything is fine.”
It was fine. We arrived at a beautiful brown shingled bungalow located at the back of the main house. We opened the door to a light-filled, two story, tastefully furnished, comfortable, immaculately clean and uncluttered, well provisioned, house. Slice of heaven. I knew my husband was happy when I heard a staccato drumming on his cell. He was seated at an outdoor deck off the kitchen communicating with a yellow bellied sapsucker on his Merlin app. All week long we hiked, ate at fine restaurants, read books, and relaxed. On the day we left a humming bird hovered near the kitchen window. Thank you, Albert, his team, and VRBO!

We were so happy with this adorable cottage. A perfect view of the lake, house was very clean and a well stocked kitchen for guests who love to cook. Al was very response and easy to talk to. Our next visit we will have him up for a glass of wine. I totally would recommend this cute cottage. Plenty of room for 4 adults.

We absolutley loved staying at your cottage. It was perfectly appointed and very comfortable. Had everything we needed but most of all we had this beautiful, relaxing 3 days in one of the prettiest places in the Northeast! The extra bonus of having lake access and a dock to hang out on was wonderful. And meeting you both was wonderful.Needless to say, "we will be back"!

We could not have been happier at our stay here! A picturesque lake front property, with a beautiful two bedrooms, a gorgeous living room and excellent house amenities. The house had terrific privacy and could not have been in a better location. All of our interactions with the host and entry instructions were lovely and crystal clear. We truly cannot wait to come back!

My husband and I enjoyed our extended weekend at this lovely cottage. Tranquil setting in a clean and cozy home with access to the lake was exactly what we hoped for. Close to so many local sites. Would definitely look to rent again in the future in both the winter and the summer.

This place met every expectation - the two eagles feeding their young in the nest of right outside the deck wheee I drank coffee and watched them in the morning - beautiful walks, very friendly and warm people around, especially to bikers. The owner was very responsive and seemed to really care about my experience. Could not recommend it more to be in nature and get away while also close to very interesting small towns and good restaurants.

Comfortable 2-story cottage on a beautiful property. Short walk to private dock on the lake. Owner was friendly and courteous. Nice view of lake and woods from the living room. This is nice place, and what follows are just a few nits and nats that don't really detract too much from the overall stay. Although we know the area fairly well, there was no information about things to do/see in the area. The kitchen was average, dining chairs uncomfortable. Appliances not the latest and a bit noisy -- our hope had been total quiet, perhaps an unreasonable one. Had to call the housekeeper to get soap and TP -- we could find none (but it arrived quickly!). A little dicey getting around owner's car in the driveway leading up to the cottage behind the main house. The above notwithstanding, we'd stay here again.

Idyllic house and property. We much enjoyed our stay here. The house was extremely comfortable, attractive and clean, with all amenities. The surroundings are beautiful and quiet. Walk a few minutes along the road and you'll see cows grazing in a field. State park and public beach are also very close. Host is very responsive though we had no issues with anything. We look forward to returning another time.

I think I've stayed at this property about 5 times. Love it every time.

Relaxing, great location.
Al’s cottage was a very relaxing getaway. The lake was refreshing and warm enough to swim in late June. We enjoyed checking out the local restaurants, kayaking, and swimming in the lake. Thanks to Al and family. We’ll be back.

This lovely accommodation was roomy, clean and cozy. It is tucked back into a private cozy peaceful corner within a short distance of the lake. We were lucky to be greeted by a resident eagle upon arrival! The hosts were so pleasant and easy to communicate with. We hope to have good reason to come back to the Warren, Ct area sooner than later to enjoy another stay there. We highly recommend it.

We had a terrific experience at the house on Lake Waramug. We are a family of four with a dog and there was plenty of space. The house was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. Mr. Grossman was available if we needed, but also gave us our privacy. The area is wonderful. There are so many restaurants and shops around and being right by the lake was so peaceful. We would highly recommend and can’t wait to stay again.
