About this cottage rental

Enjoy classic New England weekends and holidays year-round on Lake Waramaug’s Gold Coast. Waramaug is a Connecticut Heritage Lake, and was pictured in the book, “1000 Places to See Before You Die”.
The cottage is located above the Main House, in a private setting with easy access to everything the lake, and the surrounding Litchfield Hills have to offer. Furnished with a mixture of Mitchell Gold furniture and country antiques, the house boasts two fireplaces, a deck, picnic garden, stone terrace, and a private lawn area.
The living room has a cathedral ceiling, a paneled fireplace, built-in storage and bookcases, a TV, and comfortable seating. The open kitchen is convenient to both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The Master Bedroom has French doors opening to the stone terrace, as well as a fireplace, and an adjoining bathroom. The second bedroom is furnished with twin beds and has access to a large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and shower. There is also an open office/work area with internet access, where one can set-up a laptop and printer. Air-conditioning units are provided and the house has wide-board pine floors throughout.
The Cottage tenants have access to the waterfront and dock, which is shared with the Main House, and is located at the base of the driveway, across the road. The tenants also have the use of a solo/tandem kayak. The Lake Waramaug community takes pride in the meticulously maintained water quality and scenic views around the lake.
The charming New Preston village is a short bike ride away with shops and restaurants specializing in locally grown produce. And, the Hopkins Winery is a great choice for a late afternoon wine tasting.
Annual events on the lake include July 4th fireworks, college and prep school crew regattas, triathlons, and numerous road and bike races.
Within a short walk are public beaches and playgrounds, canoe and kayak rentals, walking trails, a winery and a restaurant overlooking the lake.
A short 25 mile drive will lead to Stony-Brook, a lovely nine-hole public golf course, or in the winter, to Mohawk Mountain, for a choice of 25 ski trails. A little longer ride will provide skiing at Butternut or Catamount and golfing at a number of public 18-hole courses.

We had a truly lovely time staying at the cottage by Lake Waramaug in the early summer months. It was the perfect size for two adults and one rambunctious three year old (would also be great for two kids). Our daughter loved running around outside and eating meals at the outside tables. We also went swimming every day, and saw lots of nature - herons, eagles, hawks, an osprey, lots of fish, and even an otter! Al is a great host, very responsive to needs and helpful. When it got unexpectedly warm in early June, he showed up with extra air conditioners before we even thought to ask. The yard and house are very well kept - the kitchen is small but has everything we needed, and the half dishwasher was perfectly suited for our purposes. We liked watching movies in the cozy living room at night, but spent most of our time outside. Our small SUV had no trouble in the driveway, but if you have a big truck (as one of our visitors did) it might be frustrating to navigate the narrow bend on the way up to the cottage. We really enjoyed our visit to the area, which is one of the most beautiful parts of Connecticut, and we hope to be back!

Frantic calls to verify our first ever VRBO booking failed. Technical difficulties. We called a final time, and voila! “Your reservation is okay with Mr. Albert, Mom Jawn (Jan). Everything is fine.” It was fine. We arrived at a beautiful brown shingled bungalow located at the back of the main house. We opened the door to a light-filled, two story, tastefully furnished, comfortable, immaculately clean and uncluttered, well provisioned, house. Slice of heaven. I knew my husband was happy when I heard a staccato drumming on his cell. He was seated at an outdoor deck off the kitchen communicating with a yellow bellied sapsucker on his Merlin app. All week long we hiked, ate at fine restaurants, read books, and relaxed. On the day we left a humming bird hovered near the kitchen window. Thank you, Albert, his team, and VRBO!

We were so happy with this adorable cottage. A perfect view of the lake, house was very clean and a well stocked kitchen for guests who love to cook. Al was very response and easy to talk to. Our next visit we will have him up for a glass of wine. I totally would recommend this cute cottage. Plenty of room for 4 adults.
