About this cottage rental
Currawong Cottage is nestled in the dunes, adjacent to the coastal reserve. Surrounded by native bush it is a haven for birds and wildlife. Perfect peace and seclusion with just the sound of the waves breaking, and only a short walk to the stair case leading down to the beach.
The cabin comprises a large well equipped country kitchen and living area, three bedrooms (one with a double bed and trundle, the other with a queen-sized bed, ensuite and ante-room), and a sleepout with a single bed and double bunk.
The main bathroom has a large old fashioned bathtub, with shower.
There are extensive verandahs and decks with a gas barbeque and outdoor dining areas. You can catch the morning sun or settle down with a book and an apple in the afternoon (after wearing the kids out on the beach.)
A lovely rustic feel, with all the comforts of home.
Local Attractions
Vivonne Bay has everything for the beach-lover. Situated on the mid-south coast, it offers both seclusion and proximity to the many attractions of the central and western end of the island. These include Flinder's Chase Conservation Park, Remarkable Rocks, Admiral's Arch, Kelly Hill Caves, Seal Bay, Raptor Domain (birds of prey & reptile displays not to be missed!), The Little Sahara (giant sand dunes), The Eucalyptus distillery, Clifford's Honey Farm (all your Ligurian honey needs & home-made honey ice-cream to die for!). Across to the North coast, easy Access to Stokes Bay with its secret beach and wonderful Rockpool Cafe. Stop at the Parndana wild life Park on the way.
Vivonne Bay, which has been voted Australia's best beach in a survey conducted by Sydney University, offers safe swimming, snorkelling, surfing, and fishing. Nestled between Vivonne Bay and Seal Bay Conservation Parks, Currawong Cottage is a bushwalker's or birdwatcher's paradise. The lovely sandy-bottomed Harriet River is a safe spot for a cool-off, a paddle and a safe splash-about for children. Canoes can be hired locally if you wish to explore further upstream.
Wild Life
Seals and dolphins are regular visitors to the bay, penguins can be seen near the jetty and in winter, you may be lucky enough to see a whale. Wallabies, possums, echidnas and heath goannas may be seen in the coastal reserve and around the beach houses. The beautiful coastal scrub land provides an ever changing display of wild flowers and a haven for birds. Vivonne Bay is an excellent base from which to explore the island, or just chill out, stay put and let the beautiful surroundings work their magic on you.

So grateful to the owner for a quick response and organising last minute accommodation at the end of the Easter weekend, after I messed up my original booking. The atmosphere of the place was wonderfully relaxing and had everything we needed for a perfect holiday. Thanks!

We enjoyed four days and three nights on the island for a family Easter retreat. The cottage is rustic and has all the basics covered for a family-centric holiday. We enjoyed daily walks to the beach and the proximity to activities like the sand duning and the raptor domain. The fittings and furnishings of the cottage and definitely a little DIY and well-worn but we enjoyed the break from tech and the 80s classic films in the dvd collection made for fun family viewing.

We enjoyed this big cottage and bush setting, short bush walk to surf beach. Nice and quiet location. Cottage well equiped a few more basics would have been nice oil etc. Thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Fantastic cottage for our family get together. Location was great, house very comfortable, especially with 4 adults and 3 grandchildren under 6. Plenty of room and the family room and veranda much used. The kids (who are very adventurous) had plenty of room to play. The cottage had everything we needed.

This is an amazing property, nestled amongst the coastal heath right behind the beach. The house is full of character and clever design. All the family loved it and it worked very well for dogs too.

We loved the little cottage, which is perfectly located. In some aspects, the photos don’t do it justice. We appreciated the extras such as beach tents, some kitchen spices etc. We also appreciated the dog run, sensor light, fans, dog bowls, boogie board, games and more. We hope to return one day.

This property is quite quirky with a large open living area. It is very well supplied with utensils, linen etc and most cooking facilities including barbecue that you would normally expect in any home. Beds are quite firm and I ended up sleeping on the couch. It lacks a dishwasher probably because of the absence of main water supply although dishwasher manufacturers do claim their machines use less water than manual washing. The area is quite remote and general shopping is quite spartan, so you need to bring in your own supplies from a Supermarket. If you bring your dog you need to register with the local council and the ferry can be booked out months ahead. Apart from all this we had an enjoyable time travelling to other areas.

We were looking for somewhere to recharge after a busy year and this property absolutely fit the bill. We like to cook and unwind and it was so nice to visit somewhere that had all of the utensils and basic pantry items (spices, salt and pepper, sharp knives etc) that make it so much easier to enjoy yourself. The property was lovely, our dog loved being able to visit the beautiful secluded beach multiple times a day and hang out with her humans while we read and relaxed. KI had a lot of dog friendly spots to go and it was nice to be able to take her with us everywhere we went (we did skip the national parks but there are pet boarding facilities on the island if you wanted to go to these). We're hoping to come back again next year! Thanks Heather and Max!!

Great location for beach access and was great to be able to bring our family dog and keep him secure whilst touring the conservation areas. The house was a little tired and the basics of tea and coffee were scant, and a large wire barb left lying out in the yard could have proved hazardous for young children. Greater attention to basics would be appreciated for a more comfortable stay.

A great property that has everything one needs for a comfortable stay, including very good Wi-Fi. Can't fault the location: very close to the beach and the General store. Wish we could stay longer.

A quirky, rustic stay. We did not want for any amenities. Close to wildlife. An extra bonus was "jerry" the resident dunnart. Comfortable. Clean. The place felt part of the environment and made it easy to work with it. A minor point, one of the beds was unusable because it squeaked so much.

Real old style beach house in a good location close to the bay but protected from sight - plenty of room both inside and out in the verandas. Easy drives to restaurants and plenty of sights to see

Loved the house. Had everything required for a great holiday. The only thing to consider is bugs ad spiders. We had 14-year-old girls who were scared of everything crawling. Being woken at midnight to rescue a terrified huntsman spider from 3 scared girls wasn't fun. The beach was fantastic. Daily morning walk with the dog and the girls loved it. Highly recommend staying there

Jewel in the dunes
Fantastic base accommodation for easy access to adventure. Kayaking, quad biking, tobogganing and sand boarding all just down the road. Or take the highway straight to places like seal bay remarkable rocks and admirals arch. Every road takes you to somewhere WOW. The property is well equipped, clean and the bed was comfy. So relaxing. Private bush scrub setting. Nice little scrub path out back to rear road and beach front. Boardwalk shut at the time. Enjoyed lots of deck time watching out for the resident wallaby and spotting the bird life. You may need to be a little tech savy to use the internet tv. Like most lounges, its a little soft and unsupportive but nothing a few cushions couldn't fix. All in all a very relaxing but busy 7 days.

Our third trip and just as wonderful as we remembered
We had been waiting for a long time for the opportunity to come back and it was every bit as magical as the previous two times. We love the house and the deck and the proximity to the beach. The house is so welcoming and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need.
