Salty Dog
Nicely decorated. Needs a larger ac for the space as the current one doesn’t cool the area very well. We cleaned before leaving so we could get deposit refunded. Sent Paul a message when we left—he hasn’t responded!

Opossums where you sleep
The place has potential but it's not kept up or maintained. Dead plants, stagnant water in all non-working water features, ants galore and overall cluttered and dirty. Animal food bowls were left on dirty counter in screened in area which were feeding cats and opossums! Two young opossums were climbing up and down all exposed wires and chewing on the plumbing. I messaged the owner, who we haven't met nor has he given out his number, that opossums are living in his place and I still have not heard from him. I could hear them all night long crawling in the walls until the second night one actually broke the makeshift styrofoam insulation into our bedroom above the microwave! But since I was awake anyways all night I knocked it back with my sandal. Harsh smell of mildew! Watering hose left laying on the floor as a nice trip hazard. Air-conditioner is too small and old for even this small space. Temperature stayed at or even above 85F in the bedroom! Freezer and fridge were dirty. All fans, lights, switches, coffee maker and wooden walls have a thick layer of dust on them. You cannot stop walking near the front door without being eaten up by ants. And these suckers hurt. If you want Zen and relaxation this is NOT the place. Maybe it used to... Save your money and go camping which will be cleaner. This place is a health and fire hazard. It was obviously put together by the owner as the makeshift bathroom door does not close either. All plumbing and wires are exposed. The good: Fresh, soft good quality towels and comforter. Location close to beach.

Does not look like the pictures and dirty
The property would have been a awesome place, if it was kept up and clean.
Paul was very nice. The place smelt like mildew and dirty. A cockroach fell on our head when we were sleeping. They were crawling all over the place. Cobwebs everywhere. There was an outside area with a couch and it was filthy. The granite area filthy. Not even wiped down. There’s no fire pit , no hammock, and SHED! Forget it. You need a hack saw to get to that with all the plants. Those pictures must be 10 years old based on the amount of growth around the place.
Instead you get bug bites, and Covid.
No broom to sweep up dog hair or sand, barely cleaning supplies and you get half used toilet paper! Oh and an explosion of frozen juice in the freezer! I wouldn’t reccomend this place.

Dark and run-down
The property is not well maintained, is very dark and cluttered. The outdoor area is dirty and very cluttered with junk. The BBQ is old and run down. There are no utensils to use the BBQ. There is a cat living in the house as well. The AC did not work very well.

Perfect Getaway!
We came for a couple’s trip and The Salty Dog was a very neat and well decorated place! The beach is only a short walk down the street and there are several restaurants and stores close by. Paul was also very friendly and helpful.
I would definitely recommend staying here and We plan on coming back soon!

Perfect Little Gem
I loved my time at the Salty Dog, perfect and cozy spot to spend a weekend at the beach in winter. Decorated so originally, and a super comfy bed. I'll be back. Thanks Paul!

Cute and cozy place
Very close to the beach! Only fit for a couple get away! It has its charm to this place! The interior was pretty cool! We loved it! The outside seems to need a bit of works on the garden side but like I said it has its charm to it! Walking distance to the beach and to The Restaurant as well! I’ll definitely come back again!

Nice owner, but a bit run down
This little spot is perfect for one or two low maintenance people. It is a bit more run down than the pics show, and the bathroom is the cleanest part of this cozy get-a-way. It has a nice porch to sit on with a relaxing water feature, and beach access is easy.

Not my flavor
The Salty Dog was unique. However, in my opinion it wasn't the best fit for my daughter and I. It was too small for us and needed some deep cleaning in the cracks and corners. I liked how it was so close to the beach and a great restaurant. This place has potential but needs some to.

Warm & cozy. I liked the funky decor. Platform bed great for my back. Wish there had been a kitchen
Nice fenced yard for the dog. Covered porch for cookouts and a small comfortable outside patio for lounging (though it was NYE and too cold for that!). Lots of greenery. Close to the beach. Unpretentious neighborhood with older cottages gave a feeling of lasting community (as opposed to other areas with sprawling structures or tightly packed condos). Lack of stove in bungalow but we made do with steaks over a fire. Sometimes you gotta roll with what you have. Overall, a lovely time.

Subpar quality
It was not what we expected or were accustomed to. The shower drained very slow so you were standing in water. There was only a partial roll of toilet paper so we had to purchase some. There was no place to hang or put your clothes. The floor was unclean.

No longer looks like the pictures
Paul was out of town . Not a problem- disapointed at how overgrown the landscape was . None of the cute attractions were working. Close to the beach and good food recommendations- We were celebrating our 25rh anniversary and was looking forward to the covered patio, coi pond and fire pit. We had to bring firewood and bottle water - still not a problem- no workin heat - it got cold. The inside was not clean.
We left early. Sorry to report anything negative - just was not for us.

Quaint Beachy Vibe - Very Charming and Cute!
We loved staying here while visiting Surfside Beach. Love all the plants around the rental and the decorations inside are very original. It was a very comfortable stay and we really enjoyed our selves. It was nice to come back from the beach and hang out in the covered patio/plant oasis. Paul was a great host to us and was there to answer any questions we had. We highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to stay at Surfside beach. A quick 2 minute walk to the beach and great location to restaurants. We hardly had to get back in the truck to go anywhere. Thank you Paul for an amazing stay!
