The island is the reason, it is fantastic but needs to improve guest experience at lower costs e.g simple public shuttle bus for tourists and locals not the current private expensive hotel ones. The Island is larger than portrayed, we walked tens of miles.Take your own snorkel kit for the unforgettable experience! Also you must visit the golf course here.
Sorry to say this but the rooms here badly need a simple ceiling fan or similar OR the bedroom needs fresh sheets e.t.c every day for this price. This problem is serious and could be the same at equal priced guest houses on this Island. The location of the Island does not excuse bad house keeping and high prices that’s being charged. I had a bad night cough !

Lovely quiet location and gardens are fabulous. Accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable. The “transit lounge” to leave luggage, relax, change and freshen up before flight home was very helpful.
As others have said, wifi was patchy. Location up the hill got a bit tiring as wasn’t a quick or easy trip to return multiple times a day but on the flip side we got our step count up.

The apartment was set in lovely gardens. It was very quiet and private. The bird life was amazing. Barbara was very helpful meeting us at the airport and driving us to places for dinner.
The WiFi was very poor. An upgrade would be good. The kitchen was not very well appointed. There were basic things like a gas cook top and microwave, also electric jug and toaster. A few things like cooking oil would have helped. It was a 20 minute walk to the shops although down to the best store was only 10 minutes.

The accommodation was in a great location and the gardens were very nice, the cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable.
There was no wifi in the cabins and also we couldn’t get the satellite tv to work

our Host,Barbara, was very attentive and was always there if we needed anything. The grounds were quiet, as it was an adults only accommodation . The gardens and surrounds well maintained and peaceful.
Well worth a stay in these units if you're looking for a reasonable price stay.

Great personal service with Barbara our Host picking us up and then providing a quick tour of the island to give us a perspective of our surrounding and services. The rooms were quiet and facilities fine for a self contained unit. Given the location of the Accommodation was at the top of the Hill, Barbara would offer to drive people to town for the evening. It is an easy walk, but if it is raining, it is a lovely gesture. The price was very reasonable for Lord Howe Island. You are not staying in a resort and pay resort prices. Additionally Barbara will drop you back out at the Airport. She has resided on the Island for 50 years and is a wealth of knowledge which was great - Highly recommended.
Not much not to like really. If I had to be picky, perhaps a Dryer in the laundry. We had been travelling for 3 weeks before arrival and used the laundry facilities as it was needed. We were blessed as we still manged to dry our clothes in between rain showers when hanging our clothes on the line.

Lovely, peaceful location surrounded by trees and gardens.
Lots of bird life to enjoy.

Barb was great. Very informative and gave us a lift to dinner each night and the restaurant staff drove us home
4.1
Self catering, our host Barbara took us to the local shop on arrival to purchase food.
wifi very patchy, also be aware there is no cellular/mobile coverage on the island, several free Telstra phone are available in some location and also at the accommodation.

Great value, and we loved the location and great host! Good facilities and lots of space. It felt really close to nature and although a little out of the way its still easy to get everywhere on a bike or walking and lifts were always available for evening meals!
4.1
Spacious and well equipped with a really amenable host
On top of the hill always made the cycle home a bit warm
4.1
Well situated, nice garden, good facilities and quiet. Excellent outdoor facilities
Some of our party wanted an electrical clothes dryer. Otherwise no issues. Price of one unit purchased late was definitely much higher than the other 3 and this was a surprise

Good value for money, great host
A bit further away from everything but okay on a bicycle.

The environment here is pretty good indeed!
It's very cold, the room doesn't have air conditioning, no heating, no electric blanket.
The bed had the dogs smell, because the old lady have one dog, I through the sometimes went to the room.
No WiFi. When I went to the lounge at 9 pm to use WiFi with family videos, the old lady came to call me to leave on and said don't use the WiFi. What the hell, If you can booking the other hotel, don't booking this hotel.

The setting was beautiful and the location was very convenient for being close to Ned's Beach, museum/shop/churches and not to far to main township. The cabin was well designed and equipped. We cooked and ate in for most meals. The transit lounge was a great idea and the phone there was useful for making dinner bookings. It was great that the host would drop you at your dining destination (even the Golf Club which is a bit of a distance) and the restaurant would drop you home.
The price was very reasonable compared to other accommodation. Access to good internet was much appreciated and people staying at other very expensive establishments were zealous. Free airport pickup and dropoff was also great.
The activities were great including trip out to Ball Pyramid, island circumnavigation, glass bottom boat, snorkelling and walk to Malabar, Kims and Mt Eliza were amazing. Ned's beach is the best. I can't believe all the fish we saw there.
The weather was up and down, but in the end better than what I had expected. The accommodation was cozy, so no problem in any case.

beautiful garden outlook from balcony frequently visited by LHI White Eyes
cockroaches in bathroom and kitchen.
No tea, coffee, milk or sugar on arrival.
only salt and pepper in pantry, no other condiments or cooking oil.
Dish washing detergent so diluted it didn’t wash glass wear, crockery or cooking utensils.
Hot water took several minutes to heat. It was more efficient to boil kettle for washing up water. It also resulted in water wastage in the shower.
Dish cloths provided were very old and tattered. I did wonder if and how they were washed from the previous tenants. Only one tea towel provided for an 8 day stay.
We were provided with a bath towel each, only one hand towel between us and one other small piece of jersey fabric which we were instructed not to use as a hand towel. We were told to use it only as a ‘hair’ towel. My husband and I don’t like to share hand towels or ‘ hair’ towels. When I requested a fresh ‘hair’ towel I was told ‘that’s dry so that’s ok’. If we wanted bath towels replaced we were to leave them on our balcony. They were replaced shortly after.
No clothes dryer on the property. Rainy cool weather made it impossible to dry clothes.
No heating in apartment. Had to curl up under the doona with the electric blanket on to warm up. Not sure how I would cope on very hot days as there was no fan or air conditioning.
Whilst it was only a 10 minute walk to the village, the property is on the top of a fairly steep hill - a challenge to ride the rusty rental bikes up the hill.

It's a great location and Barbara is a wonderful host picking you up/dropping you off at the airport and dropping you off for dinner each evening (6pm) made the stay so easy - no need for bikes and certainly not hire cars! Location is really central - though maps never show you how hilly LHI is, it was certainly easy to walk to the bar, brewery, shops, restaurants as well as the Lagoon and Ned's Beach (and Middle Beach) from the Broken Banyan. The units really had everything you need for self service meals (outdoor BBQ, cooktop, toaster, jug, microwave, fridge) though we only purchased breakfast stuff from Joy's Shop and ate out for the other meals (as the local restaurants are truly excellent), it was good to have the option.
Would have been good to have basics like tea and coffee and maybe some UHT milk as part of the room offering.
4.1
It's a beautiful property - the grounds are lovely. The room was very comfortable and the kitchen allowed us to self-cater. Barbara was very helpful and accommodating.
It was great to have wifi but it wasn't available in our room. We had to go to the laundry area near the router to get reception. This is typical of Lord Howe Island though, not just the Broken Banyan.

The Broken Banyon is a lovely place to stay for a few days. It is located just a few mins uphill from the main town area, and is peaceful and quiet. We were met at the airport by our hostess, Barbara, who proceeded to give us a tour around town on our way to the units. Rental bikes are available in the town, and are necessary for exploring the island from end to end. We really appreciated that there was a washing machine to use at the Broken Banyon (along with a clothesline).
No tea/coffee/sugar was provided.
4.1
Liked the garden, space around the room and the homely and looked after feel. I feel it is very good value for money when looking at accomodation on Lord Howe Island. Easy ride to Ned’s Beach

Basic accommodation set in beautiful gardens. The host Barbara is lovely and very helpful. Very peaceful and serene location.
Property is a bit dated.
4.1
Clean apartment, well equipped and comfy. Quiet location close to beaches, shops and restaurants.
4.1
Proximity to Ned's Beach.
Hill climb from settlement to accommodation.
4.1
clean, simple
Very limited WiFi
4.1
peaceful, clean, secluded and leafy
I little bit more comfort
in lounge room and better wifi.
perhaps a clothes horse in each unit for airing and drying.
4.1
The small kitchen (with fridge, microwave, gas cooktop, toaster and kettle) made self catering easy.
Airport transfers were also greatly appreciated.
While decor is old and dated, the unit was kept very clean.
It is bare bones accom- one towel per person, 1.5bed pillows per person, and lacking small things like a box of tissues or some teabags/coffee. The bed was also very old and hard.
4.1
Nice gardens, clean and well priced Accommodation.
Could have been closer to main centre but the exercise is good and quiet location. Very slow internet.
4.1
friendly and convenient
