About this house rental
This 1960's quintessential Australian beach house will take you back to childhood holidays and simpler times.
One of the original Pambula beach houses it offers prime location on the beach road, just three minutes walk from where the river meets the sea. Lovingly refurbished in mid-century style, the house has ocean views from the balcony and both picture windows (lounge room and sun room) The open fireplace will have you snugged up for lounge room whale watching (July to November), the balcony will have you lazing in the sun, wondering if you should amble to the beach or make a G & T. A great selection of cooking books are provided along with an extensive range of novels for both adults and children.
The house was built by my family when Pambula Beach was a sleepy and secluded haven and it still maintains a quiet and relaxed feel. The native garden and adjacent bush block is rich with bird life and is visited each dusk by grazing kangaroos.
House configuration:
2 bedrooms: 1 queen bed, 1 double bed and 1 single bed in sunroom
2 living areas: open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room. Sun room with special feature wave wall and sandblasted mermaid window
Ocean facing deck
Backyard: BBQ and outdoor dining area
To access secluded Little Beach, stroll across the road and down through the nature reserve. A short walk across the rocks to the north takes you to a patrolled surf beach, and just around the corner to the south is the scenic river, a great spot for kids to swim and adults to fish.
There are abundant activities available here and in surrounding areas:
Beach and river fishing
Well designed walking and bike riding paths between Pambula Beach and Merimbula
Pambula (a 2 minute drive from the house) has a great Bakery, Wholefood Shop and several restaurant options
Pambula-Merimbula Golf Course
Beowa National park: numerous beaches (open surf and river beaches) plus great nature walks through bushland and well informed signage on Indigenous local history (middens)
Dolphin and whale watching cruises (depending on season)
Local Restaurants and Clubs in Merimbula and Eden
Scenic Flights
.. and the list goes on

Lovely retro beach house as advertised. Fabulous view of the ocean from the deck and dining table - lots of sightings of whales which was an unexpected bonus! Lots of kangaroos around in the morning and evenings, and beautiful beach and river within 5 minutes walking distance. Comfortable beds and good WiFi were much appreciated.

Comfortable, bright and relaxing
Love sitting on the balcony in the mornings watching the sun rise over Haycock Point. The changing colours of the cliffs, the sparkling water, and wave sounds are very calming. Easy walk to Lions beach and the river mouth. The house is relaxed and very welcoming which is why we keep going back.

Beach house in a beautiful garden setting
We had a great stay in the gorgeous retro beach house. It is so conveniently located to the small beach at Pambula & there is a great deck overlooking the water to enjoy a morning coffee. We would highly recommend.

Peaceful getaway
Had a very relaxing break in our favourite retro house. Great to be able to get away in these uncertain times. Daily walks to the beach and river mouth, watching the wildlife, surfing, fishing and reading books.

Perfect Location
We loved our stay at Rutherglen. The moment we walked in the door we felt at home. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, cooking utensils and things you might need. The Sun shone on the veranda every morning and the view of the sea from the picture window was relaxing. The retro furniture and fixtures brought back many memories. The bed was comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful stay
The house was fabulous and a lot larger than I expected. Location to river was great (lovely for water for swimming with preschooler). House very well equipped and beautifully decorated. All communications with property manager were prompt and seamless. Will be back

It is the retro beach house overlooking the ocean
A great representation of the 50's and 60's, so many things around the house reminded me of my youth.

An unforgettable experience!
We hired this super cool beach house for 5 nights & it was great! Absolutely spotless for a retro pad. The location was perfect, a short walk from one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever been to. This is one holiday accommodation we’ll never forget!

Very Relaxing and great location
We stayed here with our toddler and had a great time. The house itself is as represented, lots of retro charm and very homely - Just like nana's beach house! Location is great, an easy walk to two seperate beautiful beaches (one equiped with lifeguards). Would reccomended Pambula Beach as a holiday location and Rutherglen as homely retreat for a small family. Thanks!

The property ideally located for beach access, walks and the golf course. The house was well equipped together with a fireplace to provide warmth in the evening. The house has three bedrooms, two living rooms and a lovely verandah overlooking the ocean.

The property was very clean and had all facilities/accessories required for a very pleasant stay. The view each morning over the ocean was a delight to wake up to each morning. Being a keen golfer the proximity of the nearest golf course was most welcome. The weather was cool in the evening but the fire place facilities more than compensated for the cool weather.

We have just returned from a fabulous trip to Pambula Beach, made even more special by staying at Rutherglen. We walked in and immediately felt relaxed and at home. The views were fantastic, the open fire so cosy. Our daughter barely touched the normal IPads, DVD's and was happier outside in the garden watching for kangaroos or exploring. Great retro fitout but with all of the comforts too.

We recently spent the most superb week at 'Rutherglen' in Pambula. What a find! Fantastic location, friendly visits from the local kangaroos, peaceful surrounds - perfect. We loved the retro style of the property which is a part of what attracted us in the first place. 'Quirky' retro decor was great and brought back so many great memories from my childhood. My partner and I don't do 'schmick', pristine, expensive decor and Rutherglen was perfect. Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!

Our stay at Rutherglen was a pure delight! From the authentic 'retro' experience to the simple homely touches it felt like 'home' from the outset. Fantastic location just moments from the sea and the spectacular rivermouth it was easy to while away the hours listening to the sea, going for peaceful walks or just sitting by the open fire with a good book. It's not often that a holiday rental property has this much charm!
