It was a classic Manor authentic decor, fantastic location overlooking the Loire. 5 star breakfast with the host. Cannot understand why it is only 3 star. I would give it 6
Nothing . It was faultless.

The owner of this property changed my booking to a lesser room once I'd already booked.
I was promised a private bathroom which was anything but and was told the shower was on the 2nd floor only when I arrived.
Bizarrely I was asked to shower as soon as I arrived so as the other guests could use the facilities.
After much discussion
Parking was 1/4 mile away, not on the property, the bed was only 4ft long and I'm 6ft +.
After expressing my disappointment, the owner agreed to refund me my money but has since retracted on this and refuses a refund.
She took the money after I said I wasn't staying there; so has in fact; stolen my money.
This woman is not to be trusted.
Everything in the end.
Especially the owner; who fraudulently took my payment and will not return it.

It was a beautiful old mansion. The decorations were vantage style. It’s close to Loire River, with a big garden, and back to a forest. The hostess was trying her best to speak English.
There is no shower for my booking. She had to ask the gentleman upstairs to spare me his shower. Although the answer was yes, it was strange to ask me to wash in the basin after a few hours cycling. On booking it stated shared showers.
The bread was not fresh. There were plenty of jam though.
There was no restaurant near by. There was no fridge facilities. She helped me to put a bottle of wine and some food in her private fridge. The glamorous photo of the beautiful dining table is private too.

very friendly host, good location and breakfast. totally secure parking. view over the river and quiet garden and rooms.

A different experience to what is usual and for that I was glad. There was no en-suite but not really a problem, toilet a short distance and shower on floor above. The venue and decor were more than compensation and I suspect Manoir de Montecler represents a form of travel that is dying out. The hostess was a delight.
Uncertain entry and exit arrangements if you have little French. Not sure if it was resolvable but as I didn't want to go out, it didn't matter.

I did not stay here.
I was charged, and keep getting messages telling me how much they enjoyed my company!

Madame Brigitte was so lovely, informative and helpful
It was lovely

As above.
Not dislikes but caveats: It wasn't explained that our private bathroom wasn't en-suite - it was on a different floor. Not convenient for those of us who are up a few times during the night. It's a table d'hote and the hostess always shares your table. She's an interesting, well-informed lady (if you speak French), but during a good but not cheap candlelit dinner for two there was a third at the table.

Such a wonderful host, and a great experience, nice food, confortable rooms and a beautiful village by the river.

This was a ‘small’ privately owned chateau, a beautiful building in a lovely large garden with views of the Loire. All the interior was furnished and decorated in a traditional and comfort style.

A beautiful location and interesting building.

A beautiful manor house, in a superb location. The rooms are very characterful with lots of charm and there are great views over the river Loire from the beautiful, and very private garden areas. I could have stayed watching the swallows and swifts darting about over the river and around the remaining tower of a ruined chateau close by all day. The hostess was both friendly and helpful. A lovely place to stay and very memorable.
I can't think of anything.

The setting and the view where nice, however I wanted to eat outside at one of the tables that the landlady served us a beer at earlier, but then she told me I couldn't because other guests got to use it. Disappointing. I felt "stuck" in my room when she had a huge outdoor area/garden.
The smell. The clutter. The uncleanliness. The mold, mildew and dust. The old rugs. The breakfast that looked like it was leftover from previous days.

A charming home rich in history. Bridgette was an excellent hostess and readily provided information on the area.
Nothing to dislike.

The property is delightfully furnished with antiquities and is both charming and delightful. The host was extremely helpful and prepared a breakfast which was plentiful and a feast for the eyes.
All was good but our private bathroom was a few steps away from the bedroom. Not really a problem as bathrobes were provided.

what I liked most is the Host. Brigitte is a wonderful lady. the Manoir is decorated with taste, which gives you the impression that you are staying in a Chateau of the Renaissance time. i really recommend it.

Pay good attention to the negative reviews - they're more accurate than you'd imagine. To start, our room was FILTHY! Disgusting dirty. Hundreds of dead flies on the carpet, dead flies on my bed, moldy bathroom, broken toilet, no hot water and an eerie, paranoid (I'm sorry to ask, perhaps senile??) host who yells at you if you ask for any improvement. Really! Dead bugs on the ceiling too. I had to spend 2 days convincing my wife the place was not haunted (I was lying to her, I thought it was haunted too). Next: Upon arrival you will be lectured that it is NOT a hotel, it is a BnB, so you must leave by 11am. This little detail is not included on any booking.com information, and she will give you some new story each day about why she must leave the house at 11, so you must leave too, even if that is in 15 minutes! Next, you will be required to provide a RETURN time! If you’re traveling the Loire Valley the last thing you expect is an arbitrary curfew since you’ll want to enjoy, have nice meals and relax and explore. Whatever time you do give, (we just guessed a time) if you do not return at the time you provide, you will be literally lectured like a child. Oh, and if you sleep in and miss breakfast, you will be lectured (again!) that you “do not respect the breakfast.” We slept late because the beds were so terrible (mattress from the 14th century?) and we felt so haunted by dead flies everywhere that we were exhausted and slept past 9am (on holiday, imagine that). Oh, and breakfast? A store-bought croissant, stale bread and a store-bought mini crepe. Go ahead, sleep in, you’re not missing anything.
But, the story goes on - half comical, half scary. On the 2nd day, we reported that we did not have hot water for 2 days. Also, the radiator was not working and our room was freezing. And that please can she vacuum up the hundred dead flies surrounding my bed. She responds like this!: You are American! You do not know how to use European radiators! (I have lived in EU for 30 years, and it’s pretty easy to turn a dial in any country.) Next, she goes into the shower and is yelling at me that “American’s don’t know how to use a European shower!” The fact is that the boiler was off and the water didn’t get warm for her either. This was crazy stuff. But it got crazier.
Next she informs us that we must leave the property at 11am, which is in about 15 minutes. At this point, we knew that she was not going to clean up the dead flies, mold or bugs on the ceiling or provide hot water and we would continue to be lectured like children. So we tried to go back in and pack our belongings and she blocks the door and tries to lock us out! Every moment felt like a scene from a horror movie. I pushed the door open, we ran upstairs, packed our bags and ran out of the house with 2 days remaining on our reservation. Meanwhile she’s screaming at us “Get Out! Get Out! I’m contacting Booking!” Not to mention this was before she closed the property to guests at 11am.
We grabbed our bags and jumped in the car like someone was chasing us with a chainsaw. It was insane. We drove away half laughing half freaked out by the entire series of events. Without being dramatic, it was like 2 days out of a horror movie.
SO, do yourselves a favor and consider all of the negative reviews (they were Correct!) and be aware - this was not a safe place to be. I’ve traveled for 30 years in some very tough places, but I’ve NEVER packed my bags and run.

Exceptional place, charming little manor on multiple levels, view on the Loire river, dream location, fantastic breakfast with a collection of hand made jams, honeys, breads in a wonderful dining room.
Shared toilets, but not a big problem as on the same floor and only one room per floor.

A truly beautiful Chateau in stunning grounds. Approached by a long tree lined drive, over the moat, into the courtyard. beautiful rooms and an amazing and enormous table for breakfast. Excellent value for money.

The landlady was very friendly and welcoming, she offered us a cold beer upon our arrival on a very hot afternoon. Wich we enjoyed on the lovely terrace, overlooking the Loire in the distance.
The romantic atmosphere and the antique decorations are unique. You need a day to see everthing. Quaint little room with gardenview and comfy bed. Absolute quiet. And the breakfast was superb, with jams and confitures from all over France with lovely pluche tableware. Our host was very entertaining and full of stories.

A touch of class in the Loire valley!
A warm and generous welcome from the owner, super room, beautiful views, nice breakfast. .we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was like staying in a mini chateau!

Great to stay here for four nights, next to the castles from the Loire. Nice, highly decorated room, great breakfast.

The little mansion is very cosy and full of old furniture and items. The lady of the house is lovely and loves to talk which gave us the opportunity to practise our French. We also had dinner, which was fondly presented on antique dishes and glasses and was wonderfully cooked.
The private bathroom is located outside the small room.

This is our third stay at the property, good location near the river, great views, quiet and comfortable. The host is fabulous and the property is comfortable and relaxing to stay in: Good distance to ferries, Saumur is just down the road and well worth a look.
Happy with everything.

Madame made us so welcome and she provided a fabulous breakfast that was a real treat served with her exquisite crockery. It was a lovely experience and is thoroughly recommended!

So I want to be as honest as I can with this review as I hope others will be wary of staying at this place. Prior to booking, my boyfriend and I were looking through the good description and pictures, to which we were then looking forward to our stay. On arrival the hostess greated us with a warm welcome and showed us around the accomodation - a great start as she was very sweet and provided us with two Schweppes lemonades in the hot near 40 degree heat.
After settling in and enjoying the garden with lovely views of the Loire River, we decided to take a trip to the local super U shop to which we realised we had to ask the hostess to unlock both the front door of the property and the main gate. She would not give us the gate code or the front door key. Seeming odd as in all the other places this was provided. However, we respected that and asked her every time we left, and buzzed back in for entry.
On review at the property in the car drive, we realised that what was described with the property was not the case. The lounge room stating available for the guest was actually the hostesses office and was the only through route and access to the garden without going back down to the front door to ask to be unlocked and around. The bathroom was not attached or even in close proximity to the room we were staying in - unfortunately holding a large smell from the toilet and boiler inside.
Having a small picnic dinner in the garden although, being provided some dirty cutlery and plates, being polite guests we did not want to be rude and thanked the hostess for her kindness and help with our dinner. Off we went to get ready for bed. This is were the nightmare night began.
We started to realise whilst getting ready and into bed that the room, when finally dark outside and inside lights are on, that the room provided was extremely unclean and unhygienic.
