The Shaw Fox's Den is a cozy, unique, and fun basement space (w/ it's own private entry) that offers everything you'll need for a comfortable short term stay, while also adding all of the amenities and charm that would make you not want to leave (especially if you like foxes!). Uniquely decor'd & accented with rustic wood furniture, green shrubbery, and of course the fur-babies of the woods - this space truly has everything you would expect in a luxurious "human" FOX DEN! ;-)
The Shaw Fox's Den is a finished basement suite - a clever (like a fox) space that offers a private bedroom with a luxurious queen sized memory foam bed and 32” smart TV, a separate living-room space with 50” smart TV and a small full-size (73” x 46”) pull out sofa bed (w/ memory foam topper) that can sleep one easily or up to two (snuggly), full kitchenette area with mini-fridge/microwave/sink/tea-coffee maker (with tea & coffee provided), dining table that seats 4, full bathroom with shower and a small fold down vanity table w/ lighted mirror, closet/dresser/storage in bedroom, multiple fast charging USB power outlets, and a private entryway into the space.

Tower Grove Park
This wooded Victorian strolling park rewards meandering. Its 340 kinds of trees could chart every shade of green, and they attract 200 kinds of birds, from red-shafted flickers and monk parakeets to ospreys and ring-billed gulls. Henry Shaw developed the park to give St. Louis “a grand pleasure ground,” with wide lanes for horse-drawn carriages, gates guarded by zinc griffins, and exotic pavilions and gazebos. Every few feet, there’s something to see: lions copied from the tomb of Pope Clement XIII, heroic sculptures (Shakespeare’s here), busts (including Mozart), and antiquities (columns from the Old Courthouse and stone “ruins” from the old Lindell Hotel, reflected in one of the most picturesque ponds in St. Louis). Park officials also recently uncovered a long-forgotten stream on the park's east side, accenting it with rain gardens and native plants on either side.
Also right on the other side of the park is the Grand Avenue strip - which is full of eclectic shops and amazing eateries - many of which serve authentic Asian & Middle-Eastern cuisines, along with classic American favorites.

Basement apartment was chill, charming and fairly cheap. Also, close to the park and near a little pub that was in walking distance.

Went to a Cardinals game. Not too far from the stadium. Good parking, perfect for a night’s stay after a hot day at the game!

The space was perfect. It was adorably decorated so much love and detail went into everything. The host were always just a quick text away. Neighborhood made us feel safe and was the perfect short distance for all the fun St. Louis had to offer.
Be aware as they mention in the listing this is a basement rental therefore it has low ceilings, has very little natural light, and is very cool. Quite literally, a foxes den. None of which we had a problem with at all. They did not detract from our love of this space at all!

Very good part of town. Consider it a one bed because the pullout couch is very tiny. My biggest issue was outside lighting. We had to use our flashlights on our phones to get down the alleyway, through the gate, and then down the stairs to the basement because there is absolutely no lighting. Overall good location.

The property was very cute and cozy. If you’re tall this may not be the property for you, but if you are on the shorter size then it is perfect. The communication was very fast and clear. The property itself was nicely themed and clean.

Had a great stay. As a previous reviewer mentioned, they did go a bit overboard with the label maker. Generally useful, but makes you a little nervous to do something wrong. Also had a worm friend sneak in from somewhere because of the heavy rains during my stay. Im not sqeamish though and deposited him back outside. Just a hazard of a basement in an old structure. Note that the bathroom shower is QUITE cozy. If youre over 5'11 you may be uncomfortable.

Loved the themed decor and info book provided by hosts. Small but comfortable seating area in the fenced in back yard to sit and enjoy my morning tea.

My husband and I had a great stay at the Fox's Den! Everything was as described on the listing. Just be aware that it is a small space and it may be uncomfortable for taller people, especially the shower. Otherwise, the check-in/out process was easy and the communication was great.

The Fox Den was a great little place to stay while visiting St. Louis. We really enjoyed the Shaw neighborhood as well.

I wouldn’t say the listing was inaccurate, but they definitely used clever angles in the pictures to make it look much bigger than it is. It feels incredibly cramped and cheap. You will also be greeted with “house rules” printed out and taped to every flat surface in the rental. There are notes telling you not to put the plates in the microwave (even though a microwave is the only cooking appliance) and even a note telling you which pillows you are allowed to sleep on. Over all it felt far from cozy, my husband and I decided to check out early.

I really like the fox theme its really cute. It gave me cute bunker vibes. It was clean and the neighborhood is quiet.

My girlfriend and I were wanting a last minute trip over Thanksgiving and decided upon this place to stay. The pictures looked beautiful and the neighborhood seemed nice. Upon arriving to the property the place was just how we expected it to be from the pictures. It’s nice and pretty spacious for it just being a basement suite. The decorations were very nice and the place had a great vibe to it. I liked the reminders throughout the property as well as the recommendations given to us by the owners. The communication was great and they even got us an early check in! Overall, my girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay and would totally be back!

Safe feeling neighborhood, handy access for the antique shopping we enjoy.

The fox den was adorable, homey, and comfortable. Be careful of your head at the entry if you are taller than 5'10" due to the air ducts. The mini kitchenette was very functional and we appreciated the clear distinction between microwave safe dishes and non microwaveable dishes. The small fridge also had a small freezer. We enjoyed the main/long room with the kitchenette, couch, and tv area. We didn't take the oportunity to use the N64 as I had too much homework but I would definitely take advantage of it next time. The lighting in the bedroom was perfect with the tall lamp and little battery candles creating a very cozy woodsy effect. We also appreciated the small binder with information and advisories about the location. There were some labels as reminders around the den which for us worked wonderfully as my adhd brain needs the reminders! For smokers, they are kind enough to have a little table and chair set with an ash tray outside above the entrance to facilitate keeping all of it outside. We would definitely stay here again!

I was accused of smoking in the property when I wasn’t. Then I was told I was having a party with only 5 people lol. People just can’t have food these days.

Adorable decor, impeccably clean, so many thoughtful touches (you had me at the mini hostess pies!). The only thing is that I’m extremely tall, which yes is a personal problem. And there are some low points in the ceiling, shower and duct work that made it hard to wash my hair or put on a shirt without hitting my hand on the ceiling. My even taller partner didn’t come with me, but would have had to duck under some of these areas to move within the bedroom and bathroom. If you’re under 6 feet tall, you won’t be sorry with this place! And I truly wasn’t either. Thank you so much for your hospitality. I will be telling a lot of my friends who visit STL about the fox den!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend while we were in town for a Formula Drift event. It was only a 15 minute drive and house was in a nice neighborhood, and the owners offered recommendations and places near by to check out! The fox den was very cute and cozy and perfect for a couple to stay at. The owners were very nice to work with and were quick to respond if we needed anything. Would definitely recommend staying here!

This was most definitely the best place to stay at while going down to St.Louis. Communication was on point and I appreciated reading in the manual about the places around. Totally recommend it and plus the snacks were a nice touch! It’s a pretty good space and the decor is so beautiful!

The host was friendly and easy to contact. Check-in and check-out were super simple. The rental was cute, clean, cozy and exactly what we were expecting, and it was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. They definitely put a lot into making it a nice space and they provide info on any question you could have. We were very happy with our stay!
2.0 / 5.0
Overall, the property itself was fine. The layout was a little different than expected, but no big deal. You actually enter the property in the back of the building since it’s a basement rental. The stairs going down are a little tight. Then you enter directly into the bedroom. We paid extra to have my brother-in-law and his wife stay with us, and they would have had to go through our bedroom to enter/exit the rental, as well as access the bathroom. Not a huge deal, just unexpected. They ended up not being able to come anyways.
Ultimately, what left a bad taste in our mouths were ALL the notes left throughout the property, not to mention the interrogation received once the trip was booked. “Don’t burn this candle, 4 separate notes ON the toilet about only flushing human waste and toilet paper, don’t sleep on decorative pillows, absolutely no extra guests, no smoking inside and if you do the cleaning lady will know and you will be fined.” We aren’t even smokers and this comment still rubbed me the wrong way. I’m sure they have been burned in the past making them feel all these notes are crucial to avoiding it in the future. It all just comes off very pretentious.
I feel like listing your expectations once or twice (in the listing and in the check in/out procedures) is sufficient. The list of fines in the “welcome” binder is over the top.
I am glad that we only stayed here one night and have another rental experience to compare it to for this trip.

This place was great. Clean, cozy and convenient. Lots of places to eat in walkable distance!! The botanical garden was close enough to walk to also!

We really enjoyed our stay here, space is very clean, provided lots of extra towels (which I always find nice), kitchen had what you needed. Great location, close to zoo, botanical gardens and many restaurants. If you arrive at night, it might be a little tricky to see, the light switch is on the other side of the room from the front door. Owners were very easy to communicate with and messaged back quickly. Overall amazing stay and really enjoyed our time there

Loved our little get-away in the gorgeous Shaw neighborhood. We walked everywhere we went. Very comfortable place—the owners have gone out of their way to make it nice.

Very nice place! It is tight quarters but great for a couple. Really enjoyed the amenities, location was nice. Short walk to parks and gardens. Really enjoyed the stay.
3.0 / 5.0
Not being able to control the temperature was a big problem. There are notes everywhere with rules that come off as aggressive. It was all really impersonal and the hosts come off snooty & disconnected. Also they insinuated I stole the remote to a rv that didn't work in the first place. All in all, it left a bad taste in my mouth and I couldn't sleep bc I was so cold.
5.0 / 5.0
This stay was exactly as listed. The location is great, lots of people out walking and riding bikes. I felt very safe in this neighborhood. Short Uber to Busch Stadium. The hosts were responsive and helpful. The only thing that I would change, and it wasn’t an issue…but was the location of the light switches. When we came home at night, it was hard to see once we came into the rental. Otherwise, it was great and we will definitely use this rental again. Superb stay.

It is in a beautiful area. It was a quiet and cute space. Well thought!!!
