About this house rental
Experience 180-degree Pacific Ocean views the minute you set foot inside this contemporary island paradise. A short walk from the entryway leads to the living room, which is fully furnished with a variety of sofas and chairs. Settle into a plush armchair indoors and take in the views of the sparkling ocean, or even better, step outside onto the lanai, where you'll find plenty of comfortable seating and views of the serene coastline.
The large, fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need and more; from all large appliances and utensils to a coffee maker, a toaster to prepare a festive meal or a light snack during your stay. A dining area near the living room provides additional seating for guests. The upper deck is furnished with a barbecue grill, perfect for hosting get-togethers or a romantic dinner.
Enjoy a restful night's sleep in the primary bedroom, which is located on the upper level. A California King bed and a walk-in closet give you an abundance of space and add to the comfort of our stay at Ho'o Maluhia. The spacious ensuite bathroom features a custom shower with a dual head and a bench dual-head shower and bench, which create a spa-like experience. A peekaboo window with a privacy curtain can be opened, allowing you to view the majestic sunset during your shower. Upstairs you'll find a cozy bonus room that's furnished with a Queen sleeper sofa, making the perfect sleeping space for kids or single adults. A half-bathroom provides additional convenience and comfort. Venture downstairs at Ho'o Maluhia and you'll find two guest bedrooms, each with their own ensuite bathroom. For your ultimate privacy and enjoyment, one of the two guest rooms comes with its own outdoor shower and private outdoor breakfast nook.
Coastline views are in abundance from south Ali'i Drive and run for miles. Relax on the upper and lower lanais of this gorgeous vacation home, enjoy a barbecue with friends and family or take a swim in the newly-plastered private swimming pool, while enjoying the beauty of the ocean in perfect view.
Located above Kailua-Kona Village at an elevation of 700 feet, Ho'o Maluhia offers warmth and sunshine by day and temperate mountain breezes by night. The prevailing trade winds from the west over the ocean and the mountain breezes from the east create refreshing breezes for an idyllic stay. You'll never be at a loss for adventure and fun while staying at Ho'o Maluhia. A few miles down the shoreline you'll find Kahalu'u Beach State Park, a hub for the Hawaiian Sea Turtle. The Keauhou Bay area offers ocean access, scuba diving, and sailing, catamaran, fishing charters, sea kayaking, and outrigger canoeing.
Conveniently located near downtown Kailua-Kona, you'll love exploring the area and its many significant Hawaiian cultural landmarks. Both the Hulihee Palace and the Mokuaikaua Church are located on Ali'i Drive. King Kamehameha I spent his last years living near the current site of what is now the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, until his passing in 1819. The Ahu'ena Heiau, located on the grounds of the hotel, is a reconstructed temple rebuilt by the late king and is on the register of National Historic Landmarks.
People and cruise ships watch from the Kailua-Kona Pier, where you'll have access to Hawaii's best scuba diving, big-game fishing, kayaking, and dolphin and whale watching. Visit the famous farmers market. Enjoy a shave ice or a cup of Kona coffee. Dine on a light snack or a gourmet meal, buy an inexpensive souvenir or a piece of fine art, book an activity, go for a swim or hang out at the beach. The pier is the official starting and finishing point of the Ironman World Championship (held annually in October), and a great place to watch the sunset. Everything you want and need is readily available in the heart of Kailua Kona town.
Ho'o Maluhia is conveniently located, and a wonderful vacation home base to explore the many wonders of Hawaii including Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Mauna Kea Observatory, coffee and macadamia nut farms, artist communities, and more.
***Please note that this property is not equipped with air conditioning. It does however feature excellent ventilation with ceiling fans throughout.***

This property is bigger and better than the pictures. Not having A/C was never an issue for us, as the ventilation was great in the house. Incredible views, comfortable beds and a beautifully stocked kitchen. Thank you!!!

This was a wonderful place for our extended family of 8. (Nine day stay) The two 5 year olds made good use of the pool daily (if not twice daily) and the adults enjoyed it as well. The kitchen is large and well appointed and great for cooking family meals.( I would recommend the owners provide a few plastic cups/glasses for small hands. Also surprised there was no teakettle or electric teakettle for heating water.) The bonus room was great for the girls arts and crafts as well as the fold our sofa for sleeping.
Location was good for getting to most places on the island.
It was quite hot while we were there. The many fans made it comfortable during the day but nights were pretty muggy until the early morning.
Oh and if your there in late June check the Mango tree in the front yard. Delicious mangos straight off the tree.

The place was great. One of the best I have ever stayed in.

As you walk in, the view is breathtaking..The house was perfect. You can be sitting on the couch or lounging by the pool and always have a beautiful panoramic view. This house also was probably one of the cleanest homes I have ever vacationed in. Plenty of privacy, almost feels like your own oasis in paradise.

Great property, awesome views, close to downtown on the water. Pool was great.

Amazing view and location! Perfect for our family of young children and grandparents. Quiet and walkable neighborhood. Communication with the rental company was superb and easy.

We really enjoyed our stay, communication with property management was excellent. Although the age of the home showed in some areas it was pretty well-cleaned and no critters! Kitchen is really well appointed. The views were stunning and the pool offered a great space to hangout after the beach to watch the sunsets.

We loved the property as it was easy to find and lovely location. Views and sunsets were amazing and made us feel humbled to be in this location. Even when it rained we were able to sit on the upper deck and take in the sights and sounds. Lots of birds singing at night and we would laugh at the clapping palm tree. We will be back.

Good stay overall. It seems like furniture, especially the couch needs some cleaning, as you can see stains on the edges. The bedsheets did not look like they were washed between visits. Everything else looked clean. The house does get really hot during the day, extending into the night, and the fans are not enough, but this is clearly stated in the description.

Property was wonderful with an excellent view and everything we needed.
Pool was so nice. Neighborhood was quiet. In & Out process was straight forward and simple.

8 family members stayed at the property and we all really enjoyed it. Some reviews stated that the layout was odd but we didn’t get that feeling. Each room has a bathroom (one room has only an outdoor shower and an indoor tub) so we really liked that feature.
One thing we noticed was that the QR code (on the door) and departure email I was sent differed in requirements when leaving the property. I didn’t notice the QR code until we were loading the car so we were unable to strip the beds as it said in the QR code. The email for departure didn’t mention it. So, making sure both the QR code and email match would help guests in the future.
We had a really good time at this house. We’d stay again.

The house was very clean and spacious - good for a big family or two families. Well appointed kitchen. Deck and pool area were great. Loved the outdoor shower. There are no stores/restaurants within walking distance, but the house isn't a far drive from town.

Lovely common areas, pool and ocean view.
Enjoyed our stay!

This property would be perfect for a winter trip to the big island. Our mid-October visit was quite humid and one of our family members was not happy that there wasn’t air conditioning. The rest of us were fine without, especially since we could cool off in the pool. The only negatives were there were only two beach towels (we asked for more and got something akin to beach towels) and the fact that in order to get to the pool, you have to walk through either bedroom or walk out the front and down the stairs to the back. And some stepping stones over the lava rocks would be preferable from the second downstairs bedroom. The sun does beat down on the back portion of the house and heats it up but it offers great sunsets.

We loved our stay at this house. The house was clean, spacious, and just as advertised. The kitchen was well-equipped with complimentary water and coffee. The beds and furniture were comfortable. There were beach supplies available for a day at the beach. The outdoor deck and unobstructed views of the water were made for morning coffee and meals. We were concerned about there not being air conditioning, but it was not needed even on warm days. We were sad to leave and definitely would come back.

This property did not disappoint. We had plenty of room. Everything we could have needed was located at the property. We ate most of our meals in. Kitchen was a great place to cook and be together as family. The view was amazing. You can't just get that view anywhere. The Lani is very large, and the ocean view is in breath taking. The pool was a bit chilly, but we still used it.
Amazing home.

We had a great visit to Holualoa! The property was just as described in the listing and previous reviews. Check in was easy with a code on the door, and we found the house to be comfortable and well-appointed.
PROS:
* The view - as pictured, sweeping ocean views from the decks, the pool, and several rooms inside the house
* The location - easy to get to downtown Kailua, with lots of restaurants & grocery stores and fairly central to all the other places we wanted to visit on the island.
* The space - plenty of room for our family of 5 to spread out
* The beds - we all slept very comfortably. The master bedroom mattress was maybe the most comfortable I’ve had at a rental home!
* The garage - full use of the garage and garage door opener was a huge plus
THE CONS
* No air conditioning - this is as advertised, and we were comfortable most of the time, but did have a couple of days and nights that were warm and humid. The many fans were a big help, though.
* Master bath layout - The master bath is large with a big shower, two sinks, and a separate toilet area with a door, but privacy is lacking. The space is wide open to the master bedroom, and there’s a window into another room. That window has a shade, but it isn’t a blackout shade, so privacy is limited.
* Other layout issues - the lower level bedrooms are the main path to the pool area, one lower level bathroom has a bath but now shower, and the light switches are low and can be difficult to find
Overall, a very nice place to stay. We would absolutely go back!

Home worked well for the 6 of us (family of 4 + family of 2). Helpful notes about area: Easy drive to Safeway, Walmart, marina, downtown, etc. Airport is about 20 min. away (but has very limited food options inside). House is in a neat, quiet neighborhood in the hills; enjoyable area for walking, but be prepared for steep streets. At night the coqui frogs are pretty loud -- especially with windows open because of no A/C (the house did stay cool overnight however during our March stay). Not all luaus were running because of covid, but we did see the one at the Sheraton and enjoyed it very much. Highly recommend the night snorkel with manta rays. ABC stores are mostly a glorified gift shop and you can find fun items there. If tourist shopping in Kona, public restrooms can be tough to find. WHAT WE LIKED: Nice kitchen size and amenities; outdoor spaces comfy & roomy; amazing views from upper deck and pool; lots of counter space in master bathroom; roomy laundry/mud room by the garage entrance; more "starter supplies" than expected (laundry detergent, TP, paper towels, soap; also had mini shampoos, etc. -- but no Kleenex provided; plenty of towels/beach towels and linens; every room had ceiling fans; floor fans available in closets; nice neighborhood; coolers, beach chairs/items in garage; outdoor shower was fun; home was clean and comfortable.ODDITIES/INCONVENIENCES: Pool was not heated and never naturally warmed up during our stay (in March) - very disappointing; moldy cushions on 2 pool chaises, plus one wood chaise was broken (when reported, we were told it was supposed to have been thrown away before our arrival); privacy issue between master bathroom and the adjacent bedroom (the 2 "windows" in master bath looked directly into the adjoining bedroom; also had to cover the peekaboo window in the master shower with towels, as the blind did not offer enough privacy); master bathroom is not walled in -- just a half wall between the bathroom and bedroom area; the other main floor "bedroom" is roomy but has no closet and no glass windows -- just screens and metal blinds (one of the screens had a 2-inch hole, which we had to tape up with a sandwich bag to keep bugs out); no blinds on the big windows in the living room (house could get pretty hot in the afternoon); bottom dishwasher tray did not slide properly -- very difficult to align when full of dishes; only way to access the pool inside house is through bedroom downstairs - FYI.

Everything we wanted and more!
Absolutely wonderful! If you are looking for a property in the heart of Kona, with easy access to so much going on in the neighborhood and access to get to the highways for day trips...this is the place! But the best part I think was every evening ensuring we are home for the sunset! We were fortunate to have WONDERFUL sunsets, each andevery night we were there. We sat with our cocktails and phones ready....snapping every picture we could. The property is so spacious with an an exceptionally well stocked kitchen.
I really could not have asked for a better location to spend my birthday with my amazing friends. Well done Ho'o Maluhia!!
