It is one mile to UP Health systems regional hospital.
This historical home was built in 1898 and designed by D. Fred Charlton for Louis Vierling. Great care has been taken to preserve this home beautifully. The absolutely amazing 3400 sq ft home. The second level has 3 bedrooms, 1 room for an office or extra space and a full bath. The main floor has a full bath with soaking tub, 2 dining rooms, 2 living rooms, a study or game room and large modern kitchen. The ground level ( or walk out basement level) has a bedroom, family room, laundry room, full bathroom and shared fitness/ sauna gym with full bathroom. The back of the home has 2 rentable apartments with their own separate entrance from the back. The apartments can be rented separately to accommodate 5 more guests. Please ask if you would like to reserve all 3 rentals in the home. (2024 Note: Currently the attic apartment is being rented long term)
The original Victorian era details are breathtaking and include... 3 stained glass windows & 2 curved windows, ornate decorative ceiling adornments & plaster friezes, 2 fireplaces, 3 sets of working 8' pocket doors, all original woodwork including walnut/maple floors, 10' baseboards and many original custom built-ins. It still holds all the charm and character that was intended, however it also has been updated with a gorgeous new kitchen. It has antique rod iron fencing around the 50 year old perennial garden.
The home has recently been remodeled in 2021 with new tiling in upstairs bathroom, fresh white paint and mural in kitchen, new functioning fireplace, new fire pit area out back, new fitness room with treadmill, peloton bike and new sauna. The new fire pit, fitness room and sauna are all shared spaces with the apartment guests. In 2024 we plan to install level 2 EV chargers CCS shaped for most Electric vehicles. If you have a Tesla a Tesla to CCS adapter can be used. They should be installed by the summer season. Marquette has several locations to charge electric vehicles as well. Don’t hesitate to message us if you have any questions. *****Please note there is no Hot tub. For some reason when we turn on the sauna feature it seems to add hot tub as well please note there is a claw foot tub and a sauna but not a hot tub. ***

We rented the Hewitt Onion for 3 families including six kiddos and it was perfect! Plenty of room and Wendy had a fun scavenger hunt game for the one rainy day we had. The kitchen is well stocked and having the host next door was great for any random questions.

I would give this house more than 5 stars if possible. Everything was wonderful down to all the special touches that Wendy provided. Great location within walking distance of brewery, downtown, and beach. We used the entire house for our group of 13 and added the extra studio apartment to give us an additional bathroom upstairs and that was a great idea. We also used the workout area twice during our time there and the large downstairs area with bedroom and bathroom was perfect for our friends with small kids.
Wendy was easy to communicate with and quick with any follow-up questions we had and she even left a few beers from Blackrocks brewery in the refrigerator for us! A wonderful beautiful old home in Marquette- this home is a must for anyone coming with a larger group.

This house is incredible! It is a beautiful home with so much attention to detail. The kitchen is spacious and made hosting a breeze. Plenty of space for visitong comfortably. The beds were comfortable with plenty of extra pillows and blankets. It was within walking distance to campus for my daughter's graduation and some of Marquette's best coffee shops within 2 blocks. I would rate this VRBO over 5 stars if I could.

We had a great time. The house is beautiful and well equipped. The excursions my family took were fun and the scenery beautiful. Wendy was always prompt to reply if we had a question. She greeted us in person when we arrived and it was a treat to actually meet her. I would highly recommend this home in Marquette. Kay Letourneau

I rented this house to host thanksgiving for about 15 people. It worked out perfectly. The kitchen was perfect for hosting a large party and there were plenty of tables throughout the first floor. My family really enjoyed everything about the house. It has tons of character and felt very cozy. The attention to detail in the house is way beyond any other home I’ve ever rented. There are very thoughtful instructions situated throughout the house explaining how to use alexa, operate tvs, work the locks on the old doors, etc. The basement is also great… it’s separated from the rest of the house, so our in-laws stayed down there. It has a sauna and workout room and easy access to the outside. I would love to return in the summer with a large group.

The owners were very considerate and respond immediately to ensure an incredible experience. My 12 year old daughter loves the Tower bedroom. I loved the relaxing feel of kicking back with a book in living room and study. We had our puzzle fun in the breakfast nook. Such a beautiful home with a vintage step back in time feel, but so close to the restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and shopping. Loved our stay! Thank you!!

Nothing beats a small intimate party with family to celebrate your son/daughter in law on theIr wedding day. David/Wendy were the best hosts and Chef Heather dazzled everyone with the wonderful heavy appetizers strewn throughout the house. Great location and property to share with everyone.

We had a blast relaxing on the porches and around the kitchen island in between jaunts to eat and further afield (Pictured Rocks, Black Rocks). We were shocked at the quality of renovations and finishes. It was beautiful, functioned beautifully for our group (including the XBox for our boys), and we will stay here again if visiting Marquette!

Home Away From Home
We traveled to Marquette with another family and the house was perfect for our group. The location of the home, the numerous bedrooms, the large kitchen, and big front porch were all were just as described. We really appreciated the extra touches too - games for adults and kids and complimentary beverages in the fridge. It was a great house for our families and made it easy spend time together away from home.

Great hosts, great location
Our stay at The Onion Tower was awesome, great location to walk into town, ample room for all of us, large modern kitchen to make a shared meal for our group of 8. Amazing hosts, Wendy responded very quickly to our questions and requests. Xbox was a bonus for our teens! Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful stay at a lovely location
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with incredible hospitality. Got a walk through from the hosts, and the fridge was filled with local craft beer.
The home itself was built in the 1800s, and the architecture shows that. So many fun details throughout the home give it a wonderful charm. We spent most days at the beach enjoy the Marquette summer, but evening were spent making a dinner in the large kitchen, and spending time in the living areas playing games, and doing puzzles.
The home itself is great, but the location makes it even better. Tucked at about a 10 minute walk to downtown, or the beach. It provides a wonderful home base, without sacrifice. We would recommend this spot to any larger group looking for the perfect getaway.

Great, historic house with very welcoming owners who were very quick to respond to questions and requests. They are proud of their wonderful home and for good reason. The welcome basket of awesome beer was an absolute treat. Thank you Wendy and Dave!
