On day one we had an issue, that was solved professionally within 30min. For the rest it was feeling at home. Very, very friendly crew, immaculately clean, and ... just a good place to be. We returned for some more days after our first stay. If you go to the restaurant, try the bouillabaisse. The "sandwiches" at the cafe are huge and yummy.
When booking we thought it was a bit expensive, but I think that is unavoidable if you want to offer service and quality.

the hotel room is beautiful and is very clean. people are really friendly and make that you have a great stay. the swimming pool area is nice and big but you can also choose to ly at the beach.
hotel did not come with breakfast. However, they have a restaurant where you can order sandwiches and yogurt. if you like more traditional breakfast, there is a bakery across the street.

Very luxurious guesthouse right on the beach. Stayed for five nights as part of our honeymoon and liked every second of it.

Great location and the most comfortable bed with an excellent mattress.
People smoking on the adjoining balcony. Not the fault of the hotel but very close proximity and cigarette smoke from next door rooms come wafting in so you have to keep the balcony door shut which is a shame.

Und hat nichts großartig gestört

Everything was perfect, the room, the pool and the location. This is a small hotel with only 11 rooms located in a nice beach where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
They should serve breakfast, I don't understand why they don't when they have good food in the restaurant as well in the sandwich bar. Not only they don't serve breakfast but they only open the restaurant in the evening and the sandwich bar at 09 am so if you are a early bird and want something to eat you must find another place to do it

Sauber, perfekte Lage.
Einfach toll!
Nichts. Es war alles wunderbar.

nothing really
its not by the sea at all - the description makes it sound liek you walk out your room onto the beach - it doesnt. it faces the street you have to walk past the pool and restaurant to get to the beach which is absolutely covered in plastic rubbish - even the hotels area hasnt bothered to be cleaned. the pool has a couple of loungers under an awning, if you dont get those youre totally exposed in the sun so impossible to relax. pool area was also dirty with rubbish everywhere. bizarre posters as you enter warning not to go to the beach because of sand flies! only good thing was the owner was gracious enough to let us leave without having to pay for a night.

This is an amazing spot on Koh Mak that is 200% worth visiting. We loved the atmosphere, style, beach site, restaurant, pool, cafe, and most of all, the staff. They were extremely nice and caring. And they even had a bar open at night, with yummy drinks. Make sure not to miss this lovely place when visiting Koh Mak!

There was a guy and a girl at the reception. The girl is really nice and helpful. The guy (who seemed like the manager) is just simply unfriendly and not nice! It really ruins the entire vibe when we you get a very cold and weird welcoming after a long day of traveling. Also the beach area is really messy and not great for swimming. The Thai Tea costed their more than any where else on the island and wasnt great.

Amazing place to stay! We had a room at the Pool. Everything was brand New and the room was super! The bed was perfect, the shower wonderfull and the whole complex looks like a 5 star resort!

Bed was quite comfortable, just could not sleep on my side, for that bed was a bit too hard. Pool area was nice and the restaurant downstairs was nice. And there was one very cute dog. :)
There was unfortunately a lot of gecko poop in my room.. and at least one gecko living there. I felt a bit like inconvinience for the staff or maybe it was one of the owners if I asked something, not so good customer service for the hotel guests. There is no reception / hotel staff, just people working at the restaurant so sometimes they are too busy to help hotel guests as they have to do two jobs at the same time.

-comfortable beds
-daily cleaning
-clean beach towels for guests are daily available (u must not bring ur own)
-option to re-fill drinking water for free
-pick up and drop off service to the piers for free
-esp. owner is very supportive for any kind of request
-lots of seating options at the beach front
-centrally located on Koh Mak with grocery and restaurant options
-single window insulation available; in case u have a room on the street side, noise from outside are clearly noticeable in the room; same for noise from rooms next to yours (in case u are noise sensitive at nights, i recommend ear-plugs)
-Bistro breakfast is western style only (personally, I would have liked some Thai options - but I can fully understand if it’s the philosophy of the Bistro to serve only western styled breakfast)
-it’s nothing what hotel can be charged for but still worth it to highlight in order to set up expectations clear:
most likely depending on intensity of ebb and flow as well as the season, beach in front of hotel can be a bit messy as garbage from the ocean can be washed up;
if someone expects white sand beach only as on koh mak‘s post card motives then the person could be disappointed;
but u can also see that the hotel is constantly endeavored to keep their area of the beach as clean as possible because comparing to areas left and right from the hotel the situation is okay

really pretty and comfortable room, great location on a lovely beach and within walking distance to restaurants .
only thing that let it down slightly was the bathroom. it had a shower curtain that didn’t really work meaning that the bathroom got wet after every shower.

Friendly staff, great swimming pool and located nicely at the beach. Also have delicious breakfast options!
Overall cleanliness could be improved.
- toilets at the restaurant were quite dirty without toilet paper
- cockroach in the room
- dog hairs on sun beds at the pool

Great guesthouse and I recommend to have room with pool view. Great and friendly staff. Perfect location with nice beach and fun beach volley every sunset. Excellent food especially their jack fruit curry, a must try. Super friendly staff who loved to play with our son.

beautiful design in the rooms and the whole place. it really is very thoughtfully designed and the staff are very friendly, helpful and energetic. it was great to have Netflix in the room. the cafe and restaurant menus offer fusion food and the best fruit platter on the island, and good espresso.
did not manage to have one hot shower here.
the restaurant plays music really loudly and it distracts from having a nice family meal. this is definitely one of the livelier places to stay with extrovert staff and a young feeling to the place. more vegan options on the menu would be good. the menu on the website is more extensive than the actual menu on offer. when we arrived, we were immediately told to stay off the beach because of the sand flies, which was not very inviting and we never used the beach garden seating, even though it looked so nice.

Happiness of Staff which should assist in continued good service and ultimate success.

Big thank you for the great time we had. The design of the by the sea hotell was really nice. You could see how much love and thoughts went into it . Lot s of beautiful details We loved the stuff, the pool and beach area. The service in the restaurant was really great. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. The people there made it special. The food was good and the drinks as well.
we had nothing to complain: that are just two points which would make it a 10 for me. I would have liked to second bed I our room to be an real bed instead of a couch bed thing.
And as a family with a small child, what I miss everywhere in Thailand are the child details in the room. . Like something to step on, so they can brush their teeth alone or wash their hands.

The staff is really nice and helpful, they speak English very well. The rooms with pool view are bigger and have a nicer view.
The standard room is smaller and facing the main road, so sometimes it might be a bit noisy.

I have stayed in many places around SEA, including Thailand and this is certainly one of the overall best places I’ve every stayed! We even extended our stay on the island twice and would stay even longer if we could!
The guesthouse is located „by the sea“ on one of the most gorgeous beaches on the island offering stunning sunset views. The rooms are bright, clean and super cozy with beautiful wooden furniture and great views of the pool with lush green plants around. The food at the restaurant and in the cafe is an interesting fusion of different cuisines, delicious and fairly priced, though you may also find tons of great options around the island if you fancy something else. Last but not least, the staff is incredible!!! They go the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need! There’s nothing they won’t find a solution for - They even helped me organize a little surprise party for my partner’s 30th birthday including a local cake with candles. All of them have such kind personalities and an amazing team spirit all together - including the German owner as well as the 4 cute doggies who are sweet and also part of the family!
We’ll come back for sure! ♥️
