Hello there, a little about us
My husband Allen and I will be your hosts while you visit us. We have been married for 34 years. We met in the hospitality industry and worked in that field for many years. Little did we know that would be great training for our new adventure as hosts for the cottages.
Love God, camping, trees, country music, animals, cooking shows, Chip and Joanna Gaines in Texas, vintage anything especially vintage trailers! We have a 1979 Avion (airstreams cousin)
And a cute little 1955 canned ham Roadliner that we take to the beach for camping.
Life motto is " everything will be all right in the end and if its not all right, its not the end"
We bought this farm style home in Vista 25 years ago and love our little mini farm on four acres.
I have always wanted a bed and breakfast way back when I was a child.
My grandma grew up on a farm in Kansas and she passed on the love of it to me.
We are at the end of a cul de sac, on top of a hill with breath taking views. A country/rural setting but near everything.
I love design and I worked at Michaels as the floral designer for over 11 years. Semi retied now focusing on my rescue Yorkshire Terriers, Chickens, quilt making, sewing and crochet.
Our hearts are for animals, especially dogs and we rescue Yorkshire Terriers because we are crazy about this breed!
Ps we keep the yorkies in a separate yard with the chickens, do not enter their area as one is protective and fearful of strangers.
We have some beautiful show chickens and raise hens for eggs. We call it pets with benefits.
This is a guest house on our property which is a four acre estate. Lovely views, lots of windows ,small kitchen, one bedroom, queen bed, and one bath Cottage. It is small like a tiny home.
Very quiet and in the hills of vista. Still so close to everything like shopping, frwy, theaters, restaurants and all the attractions San Diego has to offer. Bring your hiking boots and or mountain bikes, there are beautiful trails right outside the property gates

Beautiful location. Very peaceful

I had a fantastic stay at this charming property! From the warm welcome upon arrival to the serene atmosphere, everything was perfect. The cottage is beautifully appointed with all the essentials and then some—perfect for both work and relaxation. If you're into hiking, definitely bring your shoes, as the surrounding trails are a must-explore. I came for business but would absolutely return for a retreat. Highly recommended!"

Allen and Marie are excellent hosts. We were in Vista for a wedding in San Marcos and this was not only in a perfect location, but also affordable. The cottage is a perfect size for 2.

It's exactly as pictured and described. They had everything we needed and even had fresh eggs in the fridge! Slightly warmer in the day with only the fans but the night brought cooler air in. Because it is tucked in the wilderness, bugs were a plenty but they had bug spray even! Hosts were helpful and friendly. Already told family about this cute place!

The Bluebird Cottage provided a wonderful place for us to stay while in town visiting family. Everything about the cottage is exactly as it is described, including a fully stocked kitchen complete with farm fresh eggs! The hospitality of the hosts is unmatched. We're looking forward to staying at the cottage on future visits.

This may have been our favorite VRBO experience ever. We will definitely book again if we ever make it back out to CA!

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it’s comfortable with everything you need & close to the freeways & everything in North County San Diego. Loved the French country decor too! The Hosts, Marie & Allen are nice people who are helpful & responsive. It’s in the woods with a beautiful view but minutes from everything which made it feel like a country getaway.

This is one of those places that you try to find to get away from your crazy life. It is so quiet and peaceful it’s unbelievable. The French decor is so cute and not over done. The accommodations are perfect. This cottage is on the property of the owner but you’d never know they’re around because they are respectful and quiet. This is definitely a place we will return to.

Loved how friendly and helpful the host was. The cottage was adorable and the perfect size for the two of us. We were in the area for a wedding and the venue was only 5 miles away. It was perfect.

A charming and serendipitous find with like minded friendly hosts who's vision for this theme cottage has been expertly and passionately realized. The chickens and rural environs sculpted and tucked away on their acreage was tastefully planted with a beautiful array of flowering plants and tall shady trees. Cottage almost convinced me we were in rural France.

When booking the property, pay close attention to the following:
Two person max and no visitors
You must read and agree to the house rules before booking this place.
When they say no visitors, they are adamant. We were in town visiting our son who lives nearby. We went out for lunch one afternoon and around mid afternoon we decided to stop in to our home away from home for rest until dinner time. We were contacted by VRBO and the owner both complaining we had an unregistered guest on the property. I explained the circumstances but was met with unreasonable response, in fact was offered a refund if we could not follow the "house rules".
At any rate, it is a beautiful rental but just beware that your every move is being scrutinized. Personally I won't rent another VRBO from a property owner who is unreasonable to people, and only see the world as black or white (no gray area).
The Vista area is a good option if you are staying in the area. Also not a long drive to San Diego.

Allen and Marie have such a beautiful property. It was so peaceful and serene. Just far enough away from the beach to enjoy the tranquil sights and sounds of nature. We love it and plan to return.

Hosts were fantastic! My daughter and I were in CA for relaxation, fun and to get a more "local" experience to get a feel for the area. We felt like we had a little home away from home and had the opportunity to try a few eateries, wineries, tried surfing and snorkeling! We were even lucky enough to have the US Men's Soccer Team play in the Gold Cup and we got to be there! Super trip and our stay here topped it off wonderfully!

My husband and I stayed here while attending a wedding nearby. The neighborhood was quiet and the cottage was lovely. It had little places outside that you could enjoy nature. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was cozy. Because we were busy, we didn't get a chance to hang out and enjoy much of what was offered there, like the espresso machine or back porch lounge chairs. But it was a safe, quiet, and clean place to land at the end of each day.

The cottage was lovely. It was comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. The location, on the side of a mountain, was so unique. Marie and Allen went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We would highly recommend the Bluebird Cottage.

My sister and I had the most amazing time at Bluebird Cottage. Marie and Allen were the perfect hosts, providing everything we needed--and then some! The location is lovely and quiet and it was the perfect place for a much needed retreat from regular life. Thank you, Marie and Allen!!!

We had a great stay, arrival to departure. There was an attention to detail, nothing was overlooked. Many little extras that we loved. Can definitely tell that time, energy and thought were put into our stay. I would highly recommend this property.

I stayed at this quaint little getaway last year and loved it so much I came back again! I will continue to come back as long as I can.
Marie and Allen are wonderful hosts. Not only are they extremely professional and friendly they go the extra mile with fresh eggs from their own chickens on the property and fresh cut flowers from the property too! I love cooking in the perfectly appointed kitchen and sleeping in the big fluffy and comfy bed. The details are on point from Q tips in the bathroom and coffee and tea in the kitchen. Really everything is thought of for their guests.
The area of Vista is beautiful and fun to explore. There are hiking trails just outside your door too!
I will return to this perfect little getaway next year.
Happy guest for sure...

First, the cabin is exactly as advertised. Hosts were great. The eggs from their hens were excellent!
This anecdote is not a criticism… We came in two cars. Rules stipulate only one car. It was on me that I missed that detail. They were kind enough to allow it. Be sure you are coming in one car!

Perfect setting, thoughtful hosts
I’m so glad we found this place to start our honeymoon! Marie and Alan were amazing hosts. Great communication, easy check in, and we couldn’t have picked a more beautiful and perfect setting. There were so many little thoughtful details that I wouldn’t know where to start! Thank you both so much!

Charming Vista Cottage
The Bluebird Cottage is a beautiful gem located in Vista, California! It is beautifully appointed with everything you need for a peaceful getaway. Marie and Allen are awesome hosts ready to help with whatever you need for a great stay. The farm fresh eggs are amazing. We have stayed in both this cottage and the Hummingbird Cottage and can't decide which is our favorite. We will definitely be back the next time we are looking for a great get away vacation spot near San Diego!

The French Cottage was wonderful
We had a great stay. The cottage was decorated to the 9s. I loved everything. It was a beautiful setting and the chickens were so cute. It was so close to San Diego - the drive was not bad at all. We will be back - keep doing what you are doing! God Bless!

My wife and I stayed in the cottage for nine nights and really enjoyed our time here. The place is set in a semi-rural area, complete with the sounds of coyotes, owls and of course, chickens. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. The deck out back with the chaise lounge chairs is great! It is a tiny house so storage space is tight - don’t show up with a bunch of suitcases. Also, the description is accurate in regards to chicken and construction noise - it was noticeable, but mostly forgotten after the first morning. The kitchen, albeit small, was well equipped and stocked with basics. Overall we were pleased with our choice and would happily stay here again.

Transported with luxury and decor
This French Country Cottage up in the hills of Vista, CA transports you to another place and time. Everything is on point at this cottage. From the quality of the linens and towels, the comfortable and inviting bed, the fireplace, all the windows and beautiful scenery (including the gorgeous chickens), the multiple outdoor areas to enjoy nature, to the quality and detail of the decor make this a 5 star stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for cooking while you stay. The bathroom is also very well stocked. I would highly recommend this location to someone traveling alone for a solo getaway (like me) or a couple looking for a romantic location. There are awesome trails just out the back door and the location is up at the top of the hill so anywhere you walk you get beautiful views. I visited a wonderful botanical garden in Vista and went and explored downtown. I really enjoyed my time so much in this little cottage that I didn't really want to leave. I will be coming back to this lovely cottage as a go-to for my self-care solo trips. I can't say enough about the awesome experience I had.
The owners were very friendly and accommodating. I didn't need for anything. They came out and met me when I arrived to show me where to park and give me some highlights about the property.
The best experience I have ever had at a rental.
