About this house rental
This Historic Fort Stevens officer’s quarters, built in 1905, is bursting with character, from the charming front porch and original fir floors to the ornate tin ceilings and crystal chandeliers. A quick drive, or short bike ride on trails, will take you into Fort Stevens State Park, a 3,700 acre park with miles of ocean and river beaches, scenic hiking and biking trails, and a beautiful lake. The house is a two hour drive from Portland and a little over three hours from Seattle.
The space
Walk through the door of the Historic Officer's Quarters and step back in time. This house was built by the military in 1905 to house the officers and their families for the adjacent Fort Stevens military base. It is filled with fir floors, tin ceilings, chandeliers, and a grand entry staircase. The expansive front porch is a wonderful place to relax while looking out at the surrounding historic homes, and the original marching grounds that are now a city park. This is the perfect home base to explore the history and natural beauty of the Oregon Coast. We have an outdoor shed with beach toys, outdoor games, and bikes for riding the trails to the beach.
Things to note:
1. We have lovingly restored this historic home. It is the ideal place to take your family, or have an intimate get-together with a few friends, but it is not a party house. We are very strict about the 6 person maximum occupancy.
2. There is parking for 3 mid-sized cars at the house. We unfortunately don't have parking available for boat trailers or RVs. A few miles from the house is the Hammond Marina. Boats can be launched there and parking is available for boat trailers.
3. Our house is a strict no smoking house. Please do not book our home if you are a smoker. Please do not smoke anywhere on the property, including the front porch. Thank you!
4. We do not allow pets of any kind to stay at our home. The fir floors are very soft and dog claws can easily scratch them. Many people are very sensitive to animal hair and we want our home to be a safe place for all to stay.
5. We ask that you do not wear shoes in the house. We have places to leave your shoes by both doors. Please bring your slippers.
6. The house is a side-by-side duplex. There are shared walls. Please be respectful of your noise level. There are separate seating areas for each side of the duplex on the front porch. Please do not take furniture from the side of the duplex you are not staying on, that furniture is for other guests to enjoy.

Great house close to Hammond docks for fishing. Nice covered porch to hang out in afterwards.

We had such a good visit. Fort Steven’s was so close and such fun for our grandkids. The house was totally perfect with so much character. Would definitely come back for another stay.

This is an absolutely charming old house, fun to stay in (in part) because it is just so gorgeous! Wood floors; high ceilings with decorative tile, chandeliers, and architectural molding; a lovely kitchen; and a big front porch all made my friends and I feel like we were treating ourselves to something special and unique. It was immaculately clean, and the beds were comfortable. The host was easy to communicate with, and very nice. My friends and I came because we wanted a nice place to stay while we attended the FisherPoets gathering in Astoria, which was just an easy 20-minute drive away. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful house. Well appointed.

Our stay in Hammond was lovely. The house was beautiful, well cared for and pristine. There were many cozy spots to relax in the living room, and on the large porch and front yard. The kitchen was fully stocked and there is a large dining room and a table out front where we ate all our meals. The owners included a shed with bikes for riding the many bike trails around Fort Stevens Park. The home is a short drive or bike ride from the beaches at Fort Stevens. I was pleasantly surprised that the beaches weren't crowded at all even though it was a beautiful summer weekend.

My family and I feel very fortunate with having spent time in this residence. It was very clean, nicely furnished, wonderfully restored, and the loving attention to details was apparent. We, four adults, felt very comfortable in this home and everything was set up to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Beautiful renovated historic home. We had a great time and lots of room. My only complaint is bathrooms in rentals that have no counter space. But keeping the historic charm might be why they went with sinks without any room to put your stuff. Other than that, it was nice.

A superb home, filled with character and history. Lovely, simple furnishings and a great, well appointed kitchen. A huge space with room to spread out. Great books, games and care given to this homes historic origins. Had it not rained, we would have taken advantage of the bikes! Great proximity to Fort Stevens, beach, ship wreck, jetties, bird watching, Astoria and so much more. Hard to ask for, want or need anything else -- and what a bonus to have a herd of elk walk across the park each morning! Host was super easy to work with, kind and thorough. We have stayed in many VRBO homes and really appreciate the personal touch, impeccable cleanliness, clear instructions and care owners provide. This one was superb from start to finish.

We loved this house -- exactly as described and the only bike friendly (actual paths) area on the Oregon coast that I know of. Having a playground out the front window was great for the kids. The only thing I might add is curtains or black out shades for the windows.
Super friendly hosts -- and this is a great house without a rental company go-between.

Clean and fresh, well appointed. Fun to be in an historic building. Well equipped kitchen.
Somewhat inconvenient that the three bedrooms were upstairs with one bathroom while the other bathroom was downstairs.

My 12 year old daughter and I took a road trip from California to reconnect with my college friends and for my daughter to finally meet her pen-pal (my college best friends daughter).
We loved the front porch - coffee each morning with the sunrise and cocktails as the sun set and the fog rolled in. We ate breakfast there every morning, and had so many hours of talking and reminiscing. The porch just lends for the perfect location to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The kids played at the park and rode their bikes around the neighborhood. The house was the perfect size - actually way more than we needed, but it was charming and perfect in every way! The kitchen had everything we needed to to prep our meals and was perfect size for all of us to gather around cooking and chatting.
We loved the neighborhood - another house across the park is also a VRBO and had a large family gathering. It was so much fun to sit on the porch and listen to them laugh, sing and have fun - we even joined in on the singing from across the way. Having the park in the middle of the neighborhood made it feel like we were all one big family!
Bob (the neighbor who helps manage and clean the house) and Andrew, one of the owners are great at communication and making sure that we had everything we needed. ...Bob even came to check on us after we had a run-in with a bat who wanted to join our get together! I would stay at this house again in a heartbeat!

This was our second visit to this property because we enjoyed it so much the first time. It is a great location for those who love to be outdoors, close to the beach, and right next to Fort Stevens for lots of walking, biking and other outdoor activities. The house is beautiful and quiet. We'd go back a third time!

The house worked very well for the five of us. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The kitchen is great and has all the necessary utensiles. The appliances are top of the line. The bathroom on the ground level behind the kitchen is a long way from the bedrooms which are all upstairs. The furniture in the rooms is adequate, but rather sparse. The lighting is limited - there is no lighting in the living room except the ceiling fixture. We spent enjoyable late afternoons relaxing on the east facing veranda. The house is currently very good - it could be exceptioanal with some additional decorating.

This was perfect for our family of 4 adults and a 4-year old while we visited the beach, Fort Stevens, and the Astoria area. The kitchen was quite well supplied, there were fabulous toys, games and books, and everything worked well. We loved the creaky original staircase and the 12 foot ceilings - such a grand old house that was super-clean and well maintained!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this property! We were lucky to have a chance to meet Andrew the owner and get advice on ways to enjoy the area. While I dont recall the playground described in the post, my 2 and 5 year old grandkids were thrilled that this was so close. Seaside and Astoria were very accessible but this was also a perfect spot to relax! Thanks for the attention to detail!

We had an amazing time at your vacation rental! It was roomy and we loved the historic nature of the rental and surrounding area. The location was perfect for our young family, the playground/field across the street was great and the beaches were a short drive away :).
We would come back again! Thank you :)

This is a very cute, updated and comfortable place to stay. Love the location, there is a park right across the street and you feel like you're somewhat secluded from the busy town of Astoria, but then just a few minutes drive to a couple of local restaurants and a convenience store. Remi was very responsive and helpful! Thank you for all your kindness :-) If you love pink like I do this is your place! There are 2 pink exterior doors, sooo sweet. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to visit the Astoria area.
Note to future renters, the downstairs bathroom light above the sink turns on by a small silver switch in the middle of the light fixture. No need to bother Remi or Bob asking where the light bulbs are, haha!

When looking at booking the property we fell in love. When finally being at the property we fell even harder. The pictures don't do it justice. It is historic yet modern all in one. We had 6 people total (2 of them kids) and the house accommodated us all with extra room to spare. Granted there was only 3 beds but the living spaces were huge and the kitchen had all that we needed. The location was perfect for what we wanted. Away from the bustle but close enough to the beaches when we wanted to play. There was also a playground and open field right across from the property. Will be going back many times!!!

What a delightful stay we had in this handsome officers' housing duplex at Fort Stevens! Before retirement, my husband and a former colleague worked as archaeologists specializing in Pacific Northwest history. When I saw this 1905 property available, I knew the three of us would enjoy a few nights here as a pre-holiday excursion. Although the weather was rainy, we still hiked from the house as well as from Point Adams along the Columbia River. We found the duplex to be extremely comfortable, very quiet, and satisfyingly warm. The beds were excellent, both bathrooms were roomy with great hot water readily available, and the kitchen was the best equipped I've ever experienced in a rental property. There is a sizeable dining room and living room and both are furnished nicely. Communication was easy with our hosts, and I heartily recommend their duplex.

Absolutely fantastic property for a bit of renovated history. We loved the quiet area and woke up to deer and elk each morning. The house is nicely restored and well kept. Extremely clean and communication with the owners was spot on. My 9-yo is extremely into WW2 history and enjoyed not only staying in the Officers Quarters but also the ability to stay on the Fort Stevens grounds. Wi-Fi worked great and we had no cell signal issues at the house (AT&T). Would definitely stay again in this fantastic piece of history on the Oregon Coast.

My two girlfriends and I spent a weekend at this lovely home and had a wonderful time! The home is exactly as described, was BEAUTIFULLY restored, and a had fantastic sense of history throughout. It was the perfect location for three moms to get away for a weekend and reconnect - to say nothing of the shopping we did in Astoria and the walking we did around the Fort. We will definitely be back!

In a quiet neighborhood with front view to a wide park meadow with vintage homes beyond. The airy interior has beautiful architectural details like worked tin ceilings throughout, original fir flooring and lovely detailing on the front stairway. The kitchen is well equipped, though if you are fussy about how your coffee is ground best bring your own grinder. Bedrooms are all upstairs, and only one had a closet available for use though all had ample drawer storage.

Hosts Remi and and Andrew were very helpful and made great recommendations for the sight seeing in the local area. The home was super clean and felt even bigger than it looks in the pictures. There’s no end of historical sights, hiking and things to do in the local area. Astoria has many great shops and restaurants. We stayed over a week and didn’t see all there was to see. It was a beautiful stay. I highly recommend.

My family and I stayed at this house as a way to get away for a week and explore areas we had never been. This home was fantastic and provide the perfect balance of close by amenities and quiet nature. Easy access to Cannon Beach, Seaside, and Astoria. When at the home it was comfortable and historically beautiful. A favorite part was sitting on the porch with a cup coffee watching Elk and Deer roam free. This home did not disappoint!

The house is grand and spacious. The location was great for us as we could relax and let our kids roam pretty freely because the neighborhood is fairly contained with very little traffic and there's a park across the street with a large field. The use of bikes made it even better! There are loads of cool things to do in the area as well.

Immaculate & peaceful
This wonderfully restored home exceeded expectations on every point. The location provides immediate access to hiking and biking trails and historic Ft. Stevens. There were 4 adult bikes and many more than that for children.
The home was SPOTLESS when we arrived. The beds were comfortable with nice, crisp linens. Internet was extremely fast throughout the house. We spent an evening on the front porch playing Jenga which was a nice treat. We also saw elk in the field in front of the house one morning, then saw the full herd later in the day when we visited Ft. Stevens. Very cool!
Cell service for my carrier (AT&T) was very weak out there BUT this property is all about being in a peaceful, quiet setting. Make sure to visit Fish Mongers for fish and chips - HUGE portions and perfectly cooked!
Owners were fantastic! Every message was replied to quickly.
Thank you, Remi and Andrew for an EXCELLENT stay!

Old house with charm
Enjoyed our stay; house is well stocked and the owner is very helpful. The house is old with lots of creaking floors and doors which add to the charm.

Warm home for a weekend with friends
Remi and Andrew were amazing hosts. The house was exactly as described and when I mistook a code to enter - they were so pleasant to help me figure out how to get in. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were superb. I brought my daughter and her friends to celebrate her sweet sixteen (and maybe a little ghost hunting). We had a blast and plenty of room to lounge around. Thank you!

Loved it!
We rented this house for a couple of days to relax near the coast with some friends. It was exactly as advertised, and seemed very clean and well-maintained. It was lots of fun to live in a property that had been so meticulously restored. The floors and doors were definitely creaky, but that was expected. The bathrooms were very nice, hot water never ran out, and there were lots of extra towels. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, pots/pans, and towels. There was salt and pepper, but not coffee or foods. We saw elk very close to the house for both mornings we were there, which was very cool to see. It is close to the beach, and the neighborhood is very quiet and clean.
