I couldn't have been more pleased w the shop. I've been coming to MV for years and this was the best house we have ever stayed at.

Our family of four with two small children spent a week at this beautiful secluded home in Menemsha. The home is comfortable and practical with an expansive deck, well-equipped kitchen and easy access to beaches. Host was responsive and flexible. We hope to be back soon.

We (two couples) enjoyed a wonderful 4-day holiday weekend over Labor Day at "The Shop." The house suited our needs perfectly. There was great common area space in which to make and enjoy meals and play games. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and provided privacy. We bought a beach pass and enjoyed several great beach days at Lucy Vincent Beach. The house is equipped with beach chairs and beach umbrellas. We loved using the outdoor shower after a long day at the beach. Joe was delightful with whom to communicate and was very responsive. We would book and stay at "The Shop" again in a heartbeat. 10 out of 10.

"The Shop" was the perfect location for our family to enjoy Thanksgiving weekend in Chilmark. Clean, modern well equipped home provided the perfect off season experience! Sadly, due to the time of year we couldn't enjoy the outdoor shower, but I imagine Summer is when "The Shop" really shines! Joe was a superb host, very responsive and filled with Island knowledge. It was a pleasure spending time at this home.

This house is the absolute perfect getaway for a relaxing off the grid weekend. You are completely with nature in this secluded spot in Chilmark. Would absolutely sneak away her again.

This property is exactly as advertised. It is beautiful; impeccably designed with touches of humor throughout - prints of the patents for toothbrushes and toilet paper, for example. Very well stocked for the home cook. The outdoor shower is spa-like and not to be missed. Lucy Vincent Beach is a treasure and one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Do not miss Menemsha for sunsets and, if you want to splurge, try Outermost Inn for dinner. Joe is a wonderful house - accessible and very helpful. There was a problem with one of the coffee makers and he had someone on island bring us one. Truly service above and beyond the call. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved our week at ‘The Shop’.
The property is so private and beautiful, and the house is completely liveable, with everything you need to make it your home, for however long you are staying.
Recommend renting bicycles if you don’t bring your own - the general store is within easy cycling distance, as are some of the beaches.
Menemsha is a quintessential fishing village and an easy walk or cycle. We loved it!
Joe is also a wonderful host and was full of tips ahead of our arrival, and available throughout for the odd question we had here and there.
Highly recommended, we hope to come again!

What a stunning home. It is beautifully designed and thought out. From the architecture to design…it is beyond spectacular. The outdoor shower is an oasis- We walked to menemsha for the sunset a few times. The location is quiet and serene perfect for a disconnect from hectic city life.
The host was readily available to answer any questions we had.
I fully recommend!

The property was perfect for a wedding we were attending in the Chilmark area. Joe was communicative every step of the way including helpful alerts about when to book ferries, where to stop for groceries, etc. I would recommend bringing/renting a car to help get around though Menemsha is not too far of a walk away.

What a fantastic place to stay during our long weekend in Martha’s Vineyard . The shop is so well done as well as the most comfortable beds I have ever slept . The woodwork is unreal Make sure you have a four wheel Jeep to get there . Overall 5 stars Joe and his family have done an outstanding job preserving his fathers legacy .

We have been coming to MV for over 15 years and this is by far the best rental we have ever stayed in. Not only did was the house incredible, Joe was a detailed and thoughtful host. The house is the perfect escape for a family or group of friends, is secluded but convenient to up-island, and an oasis in itself in case you have some rainy days. The outdoor shower is like visiting the spa!
We highly recommend Joe’s property for a stay. My only hesitation is letting others knows about it because we wish we could keep this listing a secret for ourselves!

This newly renovated house had every amenity we’d want: a/c, extremely comfy bedding/beds, gorgeous indoor and outdoor showers, kitchen etc.
Our only suggestions relate to a lack of furniture on wraparound deck and in living space. We hit a week of rainy/cloudy weather and outdoor seating in 2 spots only provided seats for 3 or 4. Inside couch for 3 (no back on one end)and 2 side chairs didn’t provide enough seating for 6 adults, although we used a comfy, portable lounge bag of some sort from the loft. Workspace at large dining table and loft were excellent. We were 7 family members, all adults. Gorgeous property and loved the location if we were fewer people. Caretaker and owner were extremely accessible and accommodating!

What A Pleasure
Writing a review about a special place like The Shop is a pleasure because sharing news about a perfect getaway is something everyone needs to know these days! To start, it is visually stunning. Walking through the Shinto temple-inspired facade as you approach the building, you are welcomed into a new world. Every detail is imbued with what my wife termed an ‘amazing aesthetic’. Artifacts from the Shop, originally built as a workshop by the architect Chet Wisniewski (father of the current owner) are on display throughout the house. They include a massive drill which serves as a bar (or a great place to play backgammon) in the middle of the living room. It all adds to the unique character of the place. The kitchen is open to the living and dining spaces and is well-equipped with everything you could possibly need. There is also an outdoor grill for the grill masters out there! The wood stove kept us toasty warm in the evenings - as we were there in mid-Sept. The walnut and black resin dining table is gorgeous. Three bedrooms are very comfortable (one with bunk beds and a trundle bed) with more space available upstairs amongst the beautiful truss work from the original building. To my delight, a Peloton bike is also there! Nothing says vacation like an outdoor shower and there is nothing like this outdoor shower! A combination of concrete, wood, steel in a very pleasing design - you will want to linger under the huge rain shower head longer than usual. All of this is located within walking distance to the water, kayaking, Menemsha Harbor, the bike ferry to Lobsterville - or you can just sit in the sun on the deck that surrounds the house and watch the turkeys peck at the ground in the yard. We reserved time for next year on our way home. Trust me when I tell you not to miss the chance to spend time here yourself- you will be glad you did!

Lovely & Interesting!
Secluded in the woods off a dirt road, walking distance to a picturesque cove, and nearby to Menemsha and fabled Vineyard beaches, this place is an ideal getaway. The spacious living space and wraparound deck is stylish and modern and a visual delight, yet feels quite rustic. All praise, not a single complaint.

Unbelievable Delight
Starting with my initial exchange with Joe, I knew this would be a special experience. He was extremely helpful and timely with his direction and advice. All crystal clear. From the moment you turn down the secluded road you realize you’ve been transported to an exclusive experience ahead. The location is great...close to the beaches, restaurants, etc and a very reasonable distance to the main towns and the cliffs of Aquinnah. The pictures of the property don’t do it justice. It is rustic, modern and filled with history. The story of this property is a joy to learn. Extremely well appointed and equipped with every need anticipated. From the hammock to the outdoor shower (a spiritual experience for my sister, ha), no detail was left undone. Book now. Trust when I tell you that you will dream of this place long after you’ve left.

Amazing Stay
Having come to the vineyard for many years and hosted by a wonderful family member who recently passed away we were looking for a special place in Chilmark and were a bit nervous about renting. This place is as advertised and even more...the location cannot be beat - the yard is huge and private. My two teen sons and a friend of theirs played volley ball every morning and we fought for the incredible beautiful outdoor shower =) The house is spacious and well kept - plenty of towels, beach chairs, boogie boards and the wrap around porch LOVED it. Cannot say enough good things about our host Joe he was in constant contact for the little things like beach passes in this odd COVID environment. We will definitely be back (maybe even this summer!)

One of a kind in Chilmark
Of all of the houses that we’ve stayed in on Martha’s Vineyard, this one will stand out in my memory. We loved the spacious, open feeling of the main kitchen and living area. The interior of the house is visually stunning. Clean, modern birch ply walls, with a dramatic vaulted ceiling, and fabulous lighting and stunning artwork everywhere. We hosted several family dinners here and the main space was very accommodating. The bedrooms were like staying at a spa, with new deep mattresses, great pillows, luxurious rugs and gorgeous dressers. I liked that all the bedrooms opened up to a wrap around deck that went around the entire house. The house also has some amazing light, with a clerestory that runs through the house, highlighting an incredible ceiling structure and giving the house an inviting, open feeling.
The kitchen and dining area were excellent for cooking meals and easily fitting everyone together. I appreciated the new appliances and there was every piece of cookware you could think of. There was plenty of seating, which even included a cocktail table made out of an antique bandsaw, and a very cool dining table that comfortably fit our entire extended family. The bathrooms are gorgeous and had really nice rainfall shower heads, glass doors and beautifully designed tile work. Again, you feel like you are staying at a spa!
Our kids loved the loft space to go hangout and play in. We even used the loft several times as a home office for our Zoom calls. The house had plenty of new linens and beach towels with a separate laundry area and a new washer/dryer.
The house is also close to Menemsha, so it was easy to pick up fresh seafood at Larsen’s fish market, or grab take out at the Home Port restaurant, which was 5 min away. The house rental gave us access to Lucy Vincent Beach, which I think is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. We also took a fantastic walk in Aquinnah at Gay Head Beach to see the famous Cliffs. Also, we loved walking down to Menemsha Pond via Cove Road...it was so serene and dramatically beautiful. A great place for kids to do some beachcombing at low tide.
While vacations are memorable, sometimes the place that you stay at isn’t. What I liked about this house is that it was an actual part of our experience. It is clear the owners have spent the time with every detail of the house. This house was like staying in artwork. Just amazing. We will be back!

An Architectural Gem nested in Woods & Ocean - Beautiful, Serene and Amazing
It would be an understatement if I were to say that my stay here was perfect. As an architect who is an avid lover of the outdoors, I was looking for deep respite and tranquility from what can be at times an incredibly stressful job in the city and found it in this beautifully restored home nestled amongst remarkable forest and ocean.
We arrived and there was a well-groomed dirt packed, serene tree-lined road that brought us up the private driveway with plenty of parking up to the house – The house is aesthetically breathtaking. For any designers looking for a journey, I recommend for that alone as the home has beautiful wood ceiling structure with clerestory windows that allows exceptional light throughout the day the likes of which we don’t see built almost anywhere anymore.
The interior of the house is smartly organized allowing us to workout, read, cook all at once. One evening when it rained heavily, we remained cozy by the wood-burning stove in the living room. There was no shortage of things to do, offering plenty of activity with a TV and comfy chairs, and a witty loft area up among the beautiful beams that provided the perfect place for reading books on the rainy day. The open kitchen with an island cooktop and sink gave us lovely evenings cooking, and even if you are not a drinker – take a minute to make a cocktail – as the bar is an antique bandsaw refurbished into a bartop which, for lack of better words, is one of the coolest repurposings of an industrial tool I’ve ever seen.
The house aside, the location is superb too. The dense woods surrounding were wonderful to wake up to with a coffee on the full wrap-around deck each morning, chock full of a variety of birds judging from the amazing bird chorus I heard every morning. There is close access to multiple beaches by quick drive/run/walk. I ran daily down to the beach along a wooded, dirt road that stayed shaded and cool all day and spent evenings watching sunset along a different beach just a short walk away.
As an architect and lover of nature, it was delightful and inspiring to stay in a place that seems so deeply cared for, with every table, chair, art piece and house detail so carefully and thoughtfully curated and designed all while seconds away from miles of beach and nature surrounding. You know a place is a wonderful place when at the end of it you feel slightly sad to leave – which I definitely did. I highly recommend and hope sincerely to be returning soon.
