We enjoyed our week stay in Haena. The property is well positioned and cared for and makes an excellent home base for a remote stay in Kauai. The manager did respond timely to our need of additional coffee filters and attempted to get the front door lock to work (to no success). The neighborhood was nice - the local rooster will ensure you are awake early!

The rental description says it all. The only addition I would make is "it's quiet!". There are no surprises. Its easy to get in. Its easy to park. Its easy to walk to the beach. The property is well capitalized; the kitchen has all the pots and pans and plates and glasses you need. It has a rice cooker and both kinds of coffee makers. The management company responds to queries rapidly and kindly. They have beach chairs and boogie boards.

This rental is very much as described: it’s in a nearly perfect location tucked away on Kauai’s north shore (the best!) and in a great place for a couple (or small family—there’s only one bedroom) to hide away and enjoy the tropical paradise that’s Kauai. The cleaners did an impeccable job and the place has AC (which is hard to find). Book it!

The tree house was spacious and all the amenities were there. My friend from Kona and I enjoyed the stay very much. It was quiet and peaceful. Lanai with star-full of sky was beautiful. A walking distance to beaches were a plus and short walk/drive distance to coffee shops and restaurants.

A second-story 1-bedroom apartment on stilts, on a property shared with two other, larger homes (all detached). During our stay ours was the only occupied home on the property. The home is beautiful and comfortable with all the amenities you would hope for (kitchen, laundry, etc), and in close proximity to Tunnels Beach. It’s a bit off the beaten path up here on the north shore, but that’s the appeal. There is a hotel/restaurant in walking distance if you’d like a night out. Keep in mind that the drive out here is long and traverses several one-lane bridges, so be prepared for traffic. Only complaint: the roosters will wake you up EARLY. If you’re a night owl you might want someplace that’s better soundproofed.

I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation at this wonderful property. The location was perfect for me, just a short walk to a beautiful, almost deserted beach. The property was beautifully appointed with lovely decor, extremely clean with a well equipped kitchen providing everything you could possibly need. If you are looking for a more secluded vacation await from the more touristic areas, this place is perfect . The host was extremely receptive and helpful. Would definitely return if lucky enough. Highly recommend.

If you don’t mind being a bit out of town and you want incredible beauty all around this is the spot. Nothing like getting up each morning and walking the 5 to 7 minutes it takes to walk on the breath taking beaches of Haena! We stayed in the 1 bedroom back house in the property. The house is just perfect for a romantic getaway. 3 days into our stay a group showed up to rent the front house and they arrived at 1am and you can definitely hear EVERYTHING so I do recommend checking to make sure who ever will be staying in the front house is respectful and quiet after 10pm. The group was only loud (probably out of excitement for arriving in one of the most beautiful places on earth!) that first night and then very quiet after that. The house is perfect. It’s great it has a washer and dryer and everything you need. The only suggestion I would make is maybe it’s time for a new mattress. Otherwise everything was perfect. It’s such cute cozy space and definitely beats any hotel bedroom! We absolutely loved it and hope to be back.

My wife and I could not have been more pleased with this hidden gem. Our first trip to Kauai, I was not certain where to stay, we found the perfect place. Couldn't have picked a better location. The Treehouse itself was perfect for us. All the amenities, lots of space, quiet, private(there was Noone in the main house). Close to beaches, fun drive to get there and the views were amazing. I would recommend this to all my friends, acquaintances or anyone looking for a couples getaway to Kauai.

This property was perfect for a much needed romantic getaway. We felt like locals during our stay and could imagine living on the property. it’s tucked away in a residential neighborhood and a short walk to a public beach entrance. Very quiet and serene. It rained during half of our stay, but we loved hearing the rain on the rooftop and feeling like we were in a tropical rainforest. The views of the mountain were amazing. The windows and skylights let in so much light. Everything was clean and tidy, intuitive and easy to find. We made use of the beach towels and the aloe stored in the hall closet. It was definitely a pleasant surprise to find that after a day on a boat and a pretty good sunburn. The shower was cool and comfortable, and extremely moody. The towels were soft and fluffy. I’d like to purchase a set of the sheets that were on the bed. They were so nice and cozy. I’m so glad we chose this property over other options. We felt we had much more comfort, space and privacy. Instructions and tips for our stay were clear and well defined. Light switches were all clearly labeled so we’d know what is what. The garbage cabinet was a little hard to open, but a strong tug would usually do the trick. The kitchen was well supplied and stocked with useful utensils, appliances and dishes. The idea of Crossing the bridges to the residence caused us some anxiety, but it really is such a breeze to figure out. Most drivers we encountered followed the courtesy rules, and followed pos

Absolutely gorgeous. So inspiring that 1) we dont want to tell anyone its here so we keep the "secret" and 2) we booked the larger house during our trip because the resort we planned for thr 2nd half of our stay on coconut beach was just a downer after being out here in secluded paradise.
Opakapaka grill and bar is a beavh aide resteraunt with live music, absolutely a must. And the beach is walking distance and very private
Tunnels is a must and walkable if theres no parking.
We already want to come back. Its peace.

My husband and I stayed at this delightful home for a few days at the end of our Kauai trip. It was a very pretty and calming space--with lovely little touches like copper sinks and a comfy window seat. The property manager was great. It's a short walk to a beautiful beach and a perfect size for a couple. I'd totally go back!

Beautiful place
The treehouse is absolutely beautiful, comfortable and spacious, ideal for a couple. Stunning views of the mountains and forest.
The North shore of Kauai is incredible, with endless gorgeous beaches and relaxed, unspoiled places. We had a lovely vacation.
We have just one quibble, which is neither the fault of the property or of Makana., but I think guests should be warned. The neighboring properties both had gardeners come almost every day, early, with very noisy equipment non-stop for hours: leaf-blowers, dune buggies, grass trimmers, wood-chippers, on and on it went, deafening. To have a quiet morning you have to wear noise-cancelling headphones.
If only the owners could be asked to have their staff use quieter, battery powered leaf blowers or better: rakes! But: some people might not even mind the noise, which is the same as in many suburbs in the USA, and this is the only downside to this gorgeous place.

We were delighted to stay at the Haena Treehouse for 4 days in December. It was the perfect escape for my husband and I. Just what we needed after a long 2020. The house was perched up high which gave us that idyllic jungle-treehouse feeling as well as a gorgeous view of the mountains from the living room and master bedroom. I opened my eyes each morning to a view of the rich deep greens of the sheer mountains and a tumbling waterfall. It was absolute magic! The lanai off of the master bedroom was a perfect and serene place to have our morning coffee while enjoying the breathtaking views and the sound of the waves crashing in the background. The space was meticulously clean and very comfortable with AC in both the living room and the bedroom, though we barely used it because it was on the cool side while we were there. The wooden jealousies open up for a generous breeze, which we prefer over AC, but it was nice to have both options. The jealousies give the option to create an open feeling to the space by opening the windows or closing them to give more privacy. The only house really visible is the main house next door, which was not occupied during our stay so we kept them open most of the time. Tunnels Beach (which is a 2 minute drive/ 5 minute bike ride / 10 minute walk away from the Haena Treehouse) is my favorite beach on the planet! It has to be one of the most beautiful places one can experience. Even the rainier days were enjoyable as we could read and hangout comfortably in the covered outdoor lounging spaces. The outdoor BBQ area was great with a beautiful yard space and some cushy chairs. The kitchen was very well equipped and we were happy to be able to cook all weekend since there weren’t too many restaurants open in Hanalei. The beach equipment was also brand new and we were stoked on the cooler provided. We did not want to leave and we are excited to come back again with a larger group to also enjoy the main house next door. It's an amazing prop

Wonderful Location
The property is Beautiful!!!!! That being said, it had three vacation rentals on the same property….so…….if those neighbors were loud it would be much less than private
We were fortunate to have most other units vacant the first two nights

Rough Stay
There are two houses on the property, the main house and the tree house. You can hear everything from the main house in the tree house bedroom because of the louvered windows. The guests in the main house were a total nightmare for three nights of our five night stay. We got NO SLEEP! The property management company was average on there response. We got a reply after the first night but no response from our request for help on Saturday night. They did offer to give us a full refund but we waisted the day trying to find other accommodations with no success. The two nights we were on the property alone was great. We did not realize how quiet it was until the guests in the front house left. The owners did refund us half of our initial fee which was nice. If you stay in the treehouse make sure no one is in the main house.

lovely treetop paradise
My husband and I stayed for 5 days in February. Had a fantastic time. The location is wonderful and quiet. There are roosters that get active at 4am. Aside from that, its is a beautiful property --just short steps to the beach. We walked over to watch the sun set almost nightly. Great kitchen to make dinner and enjoy a relaxing wonderful few days.

Our stay in the Haena treehouse was the highlight of our vacation to the Hawaiian islands! We split our accommodations between 4* and 5* hotels and rental properties to get a good variety. The treehouse blew the others away! The unit itself is beautiful and it is located in an idyllic neighborhood far away from the flocks of tourists. It is a convenient walk to Tunnels beach and other attractions like Limahuli Gardens and the state park. At night the stars are wonderful since you are so far removed from any light pollution. Stay here if you want a magical experience during your Hawaiian vacation!

The house was very musty and dark. If you have allergies to mold or mildew DO NOT STAY HERE. Makana Kauai Properties was very helpful and friendly but I wasn’t able to get a refund and couldn’t afford to rent a different place. My nose is still swollen shut. We tried sleeping out side and were eaten up by mosquitos. My one and half year old’s face is covered in bites, he looks like he has the chicken pox. It’s so dark in the bed room that even with all the lights on you can’t see what is in your suitcase.

Nice location, no AC
Three of us stayed in this house in October. The location is very remote but if that’s what you’re looking for, this is a good option. It’s about a 5-min walk down the main road (no real place for pedestrians) to a path next to the YMCA to access a nice beach. You can walk down that beach for another 10 min or so to get to the start of Tunnels. There aren’t really any businesses in this area except for a coffee shop and the drive to Hanalei was about 15-min for us.
House is on a beautiful piece of land with lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy. It is quite close to the neighbors though, so you can hear conversations. The outdoor dining table is shaded and a great place to enjoy all meals. Indoors is a little tighter, with not enough seating for all the people the house can sleep. Kitchen was clean and easy to cook in. There’s a washer and dryer, and plenty of towels including beach towels. There are beach chairs too.
We did not know in advance, nor did we see in the listing, that houses in this area don’t really have AC. Temps were between 75-89 during our stay and the house gets hot. Some of the largest windows only open at the bottom and while there are large floor fans, it is tricky to keep the space cool in the afternoon and early evening. We weren’t sure about the safety of leaving windows open while we weren’t home but it was so warm we had to. There’s no safe so it was tricky to figure out what to do with valuables.
If you want to visit Haena State Park, know that you need to get a pass (whether you park or walk) online in advance. We had trouble getting them and then the day we went, rain had closed the trail. The passes are cheap ($1/person on foot) so you could get them for multiple days in case weather doesn’t cooperate. Clearly others were doing this and not canceling as the parking lot was half full when we stopped by. If you can’t get into the park, Limahui Gardens is right next to it. It takes about an hour to do their 3/4 mile walk and the views are nice. Cost was high though—I think $20/person.
There’s a lovely farmers market on Tuesday afternoons around 2pm right outside Hanalei. Excellent selection of local produce.
