About this house rental
Essex town is located between East and West Glacier. It is a good location for exploring both sides of the parkThe house is close to main road and train tracks, the trains don't blow the horn because there is no crossing but you can hear them. IF YOU ARE A LIGHT SLEEPER PLEASE DON'T BOOK. The Great Bear Wilderness is right the back side of the house. Stanton lake hike (in the wilderness)is one of my favorites. The trailhead is 5 minute drive from the house. Stanton creek is a nice spot for picnics too.
Our house has all the amenities completely furnished with linens, towels and dishes. There is a TV and a DVD player with a selection of DVD'S. There is no satellite TV. There are some games and puzzles and a pool table. There are some hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trail maps available and some activities you can do inside and around the park.
The house features exterior security cameras. The cameras don't look into interior spaces. The cameras record video when activated by motion.
Walton Ranger station which is an entrance for day hikes and back country trips is 7 minute drive from the house.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the appliances, coffee maker, microwave, dishes and cookware and some seasonings.
The bedroom has a queen bed.
The bathroom is fully equipped too, We stock the starting supplies of toilet paper, soap, shampoo, trash liners.
It used to be a bar in late 1950s.
Enjoy your stay and also go and explore the park and outdoor activities as river rafting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, boating.
There are also Red Bus Tours available in the park.

It was the perfect place to come home to at night after sightseeing… had everything we needed for our vacation! And was very cozy! We loved it!

We had an amazing time in this cabin! It’s a perfect distance in between the west glacier entrance in the east glacier entrance. Awesome little creek. We spent every night at down the road about a mile if that far! Owners were very responsive Greatly appreciated it 1000% recommend

Beautiful property and cabin. Centralized location to both entrances of Glacier. Train runs super close all evening and throughout the night. Highway traffic noise can also be a bit loud. Fans were provided, so we were able to drown out the noise for the most part. Overall very spacious and clean with a great vibe!

Cabin between east and west glacier
Everything you expect about cabin life with nice shower and laundry.
Well stocked , fans, gas grill, full size kitchen, amenities & earplugs provided!
Open windows & let fresh air in
Traffic is fast on road during day…trains are loud but fun to watch…seems to stop running during night …hence earplugs
It was highly enjoyable for us grilling and eating in cool air outside
Quiet and lots deer at night & early morning
At night fans and earplugs and fall asleep after long day at glacier
Buy groceries ahead of time on drive up
Paper plates help with microwave and clean up
Highly recommend

My fiancé and I loved our stay here! It was only 30 min from west glacier and was perfect to come hangout at after a kilt day in the park. It had great amenities!

We had a fantastic stay at this cabin! There was plenty of room for the two of us and it had everything we needed for the week. We basically did a lot of day hiking in the Natl Park so we would get up early and get home late, but it was so nice to come home to a hot shower, cook a hot meal in the full kitchen and prepare for the next days hike. Then we would watch a movie and then zonk out in the comfortable bed. The train and highway noise were not really a problem. Sure you could hear it but it wasn’t disturbing. Wi-Fi at the cabin worked great, I think it was Starlink. The cabin was nicely appointed with everything we needed and the host was thoughtful and generous and communicated with us to make sure we were happy and comfortable.

Cabin was better than the description. Yes, the traffic can be loud during the day, but very quiet at night. Some trains over night, but we actually enjoyed that. Very well appointed and thought out.

My wife and I loved staying at this cabin. It has great access to multiple parts of GNP. The train didn’t bother us at all and the host was always very responsive. Definitely would stay here again.

Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable.

Had a great time. Property was well stocked with everything you could possibly need. I find trains rather soothing, but the car traffic was loud during the day…quiet at night tho.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin by the train tracks. It was clean, well stocked, had everything we needed. Vara was a wonderful host, attentive to any questions/requests we asked and had a book with lots of local info.
We did not mind the trains or the highway nearby, but if you are a light sleeper, it could be a concern. We were always too tired from hiking for it to matter.
It is a very long drive to the Many Glacier and St Marys entrances, which is where we went most days. It is a much shorter drive to the West and Two Medicine entrances, dinner at Serranos in East Glacier was an easy commute as well. Beautiful scenery and opportunities to see nearby mountain goats.

Nice roomy cabin. We used it for visiting East Glacier.

Great location! Cute, clean, really good use of a smaller space. Host is kind enough to leave behind others leave behinds. . . baggies, some spices, ice packs in the freezer, etc. We did the same! The train in the back didn't bother us a bit. Glacier was our destination. We came from Chicago suburb and camped out way there. Perfect "indoor" storage area between garage and home. Was able to keep car carrier, camping gear, etc. in this little space so as not to take up cabin space.
The only "negative" is there were some mice droppings. I'm unaffected by this, as this is the great outdoors and I've come to expect things like this. I know the house manager was working on getting to the bottom of it.
She was great! Available! answered questions immediately. Would absolutely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed this last week for our anniversary. The property was the perfect location for exploring around Glacier. While most of the park was closed for the season we enjoyed the location and being off grid for a few days. The property was clean and the host communicated well with us. Definitely recommend for a good in between location for the two entrances to Glacier.

The place was in a very good location, just a few miles from the West Entrance. It was also towards (but still not close) to the East Entrance.
The place was very clean and had a full kitchen.
As others noted, it is right along a constantly used train line. There aren't horns but you definitely hear it go by. After the first night (and a lot of hiking), it never woke me up.

Perfect place to stay between east and west Glacier. The kitchen is wonderful, and big with lots of counter space. We felt comfortable and safe in the home. There were two hummingbirds that frequented the feeder outside. The train does roll by frequently, but after a time we became used to the noise. My husband lost his glasses at Glacier and our host was very helpful in making sure they got to the house. There was no air conditioning but large fans were provided to keep us cool. The temperature of the shower was hard to figure out how to adjust.
Overall though it was a fantastic stay!

This was a great place to stay for Glacier National Park. The cabin is very clean and had plenty of space for two people. The WiFi had great connection. All the amenities you need are there. My boyfriend is a light sleeper and had no issues with the train.

My boyfriend and I stayed here while we visited Glacier National Park, and it was perfect for us. We didn’t spend any time at the cabin during the day, just evenings/overnights when we got back from the park. Has everything you need to cook meals at the cabin…grill, oven, stove, cookware, etc. Good location between the East entrance and West entrance of the park and a super easy drive to get to the West entrance. Varv sent me information about our stay a month before we left and checked in with me once we arrived to see if we needed anything. Great host! The cabin is exactly as advertised.

Cozy Cabin between East and West Glacier
My husband and I loved staying in this cabin for our week long vacation to Glacier National Park! It’s is located almost equal distance between the East and West Glacier park entrances. The host was great and super helpful and we loved the train that ran right behind the house!

Early Summer Vacation
We loved the cabin! Communication was excellent and timely; she was even able to assist with wifi-issues and supply us with extra towels for our week long stay. We would definitely stay in this cute, little cabin again!

Very Relaxing
Very warm and cozy. Snowed all day first day but we needed the chill time so it was perfect. Remember to write down address and door code, I failed to do that and with no cell signal in that area had to drive a ways to get cell service so I could access vrbo app, totally my fault! There is wifi at the cabin so no worries after that. Your right in between west and east glacier which is very convenient. The wood burning stove and pool table was a nice surprise! Lots of DVDs and games for stay in evenings! Perfect end to our 40th anniversary trip! Var was so patient and informative Thanks!

Fantastic Essex Getaway
The Rustic House in Essex was a special and fantastic place for my girlfriend and I to enjoy for our anniversary. Varv went above and beyond in providing a positive experience for us. The place was beautifully located between east and west glacier providing a fantastic place to enjoy remote Montana mountains and wilderness. I highly recommend staying here.

Clean, cute cabin
Trains are close but we didn’t notice them after a while - fireplace with wood is a nice amenity. A pool table has been added since the pictures. Good access to East and West Glacier. Was very clean when we checked in and there were plenty of spices and even some staples were available. BBQ worked great. Host was responsive to all our questions and even brought us extra propane when we were concerned about possibly running out (we didn’t). We would definitely stay there again.

Essex - Roadside Cabin
Cute little cabin. If you don't like the sound of trains or a busy highway, not the place for you as this cabin is right between a busy railroad track and Hwy 2. We didn't mind, but both are very close to the cabin. Cabin is very close to Glacier National Park. Only real minor complaint is that the cabin is very dark inside, even with all of the lights on. Otherwise, a great experience!

Perfect cabin
We loved our stay here!! Overall very clean and actually more spacious than we expected. It has everything you could need in the kitchen and bathroom, then a lot of fun stuff like movies/board games, a fire pit, a grill, and a pool table. It’s off of the same road at Glacier National Park so it is super convenient too. The train in the back just adds to the rural western charm - if you eat at the Issac Walton Inn down the road you can actually learn a lot about the train’s history. Overall, this is the perfect home base for a trip to Glacier or to just hang out and relax in the woods.
8.0
It was a really relaxed beautiful location and home. Comfortable and great base came for exploration.
As previously noted by others this is right on the tracks. I am pretty adaptable and it was fine but my partner is a lighter sleeper and wore earplugs.
Everything was well stocked including bottled water.
4.0
Looked good, but not worth the money.
It was so bad that we paid for two nights, but left after one. Trains ran all night behind the house and the highway was a few feet from the front door. There were several electrical issues that would not meet code like exposed connections not in boxes wrapped in electrical tape, open junction boxes, hanging connections. Bathroom lights were not secure-felt like they were going to fall off when you turned them on or off. We had to wipe everything down when we arrived-crumbs on garbage can lids, much dust & particles on tables and counters, greasy stove controls. Noisy, unleveled bed with outer covering that probably doesn’t get washed between guests. Could only find one dish towel that wasn’t stained. Drinking glasses stuck to the cabinet liner.
We did enjoy a movie, but there was no remote for the DVD player. The kitchen was well-stocked and there was local information available. A gallon of bottled water was provided. With fees, the price was just not worth it. With the east side of the park being closed this year, this property was also too far away from everything except the goat lick, where we never saw any goats (not the property owner’s fault!) Whitefish Hampton Inn is much nicer, cheaper, and has free breakfast and a 24 hour (for adults) pool.
