The location was great. Bed was comfy. Room was very quaint.
NO HOT WATER !!!!! i was there for a wedding- i couldn’t shower before the wedding, so due to timing i left for wedding - as id had my hair done and had to get my mother who was staying across the street at The Bronte. When i arrived home that night- i really wanted a shower - again NO HOT WATER!!! There was nothing I could do about it until morning. I got up to shower at 8/8.30 and again NO HOT WATER!!!! I contacted the owners ( ?- someone) and they said it would be fixed in an hour. I didn’t have that time as I had a plane to catch. So i ran across the street to THE Bronte & showered in my mothers room.
I contacted the owner via text again and suggested that I somehow be compensated for this total inconvenience. All they said was that hot water system was installed last week! Not sure how that was relevant ti my predicament right now- but it was “crickets” on any compensation or apology. Very disappointing.

It is in an ideal and central location that makes it easy to get around town. It is close to cafes and antiques, convenience stores within the town. The town has a very old school vibe but is also close to larger shopping centres if you can't find what you are looking for.
The accommodation is well thought out and the Vovo room is large enough for a couple or small family.
There wasn't anything we didn't like. Although people who are not used to wooden floors may find the floor creaking differently from what they are expecting. However, this is part of the charm.

Great location in the middle of town.
Felt like we had no one around us.

Seriously?!!
The window frames were not sealed so bugs got in. The toilet had a lovely layer of mosquitoes on the ceiling...seriously the place is by a river!! There was visible mold on the vinyl tubs in the lounge; the place was dusty; there were spider webs and the odd cockroach or two.. The bed-clothes were either old & faded or were dirty. My daughter was afraid there would be bed bugs. The air-con unit did not reach the main bedroom so either we cooked or we let the bugs in. Curtains were cheap & flimsy, so on the ground floor by the street offered little privacy. We will NEVER stay in this over-priced dump again.

Theme of room lovely central location in town
Extreme mould smell in lower bunk bed. Perhaps wall or floor had rising damp? Still have cough from breathing mould. No TV, no garden or ability to sit outside. Poor ventilation, very musty throughout. Despite located on lovely river disappointed i couldn't see it or sit by it despite seeing a backyard area that was chained off to guests. Very expensive for 2 musty rooms in an old house...

Loved the history of the building, themes of the
rooms and the extras the owners provided.
Large bathrooms with intricate decor, comfortable
beds. Recommend staying here as it is not only
close to everything, it feels like you are part of
Morpeth and experiencing the history of the town
first hand.
Thanks for a lovely stay.

A charming little place in a fantastic location. Lots of room inside and very comfortable beds. Highly recommend for people visiting Morpeth. The property is right in the middle of the town, with lots of great cafes and shops around it.
The entrance was a little confusing (contact less check in) and a bit dark, but once you get into the room, it's lovely!

Loved the character and charm of the building and the great location. The service was excellent and our rooms were above and beyond anything we expected!
The only negative thing I can think of was that it was a little confusing finding the entrance as there isn't clear signage where the entrance is, but that was a very minor issue

Location was convenient.
No TV. Method of entry convoluted. No reception. Noisy wooden floorboards on floor above. Open packet of biscuits, sour milk in fridge, 3 teabags for 4 days. No hotel information folder. We were there for 4 nights no change of towels.

In the heart of town, this "hotel" is difficult to spot. You are not looking for a sign that says "William Arnott Hotel" but two signs that both say "Sourdough". There are three rooms to book, but only the smallest was offered on "Booking.com" so we didn't know about the others when we booked. The owner, whom we did not meet, texted a code for the front door. We let ourselves in and found the Sao room. It is not really big enough for a couple, with nowhere to sit, other than the quite high beds, and nowhere to put any luggage. Our first night was so uncomfortable that we seriously considered going home early. Too hot without aircon, too hot with doona, too cold with nothing at all (no top sheets), too stuffy without aircon - we tried all the possibilities. The second night we got smart and took the doona out of its cover and used that in place of a sheet. No TV but the Wifi worked well the first day, and not too badly the second.
I would suggest this room is OK for a single traveler. Take your own top sheet, a box of tissues, some soap and a face washer, your own hair dryer and be prepared to have all your meals out, because there is no microwave or toaster. Alternatively, you could upgrade to the better room across the hall or for the same price, get a motel room a short distance away in Maitland.

Very clean, quirky rooms with lovely owners and easy check in
Would be great to get some fly screens so you can get some fresh air

Location was good and access was easy.
We stayed in the SAO room with 2 twin beds. We would have preferred one of the other rooms which looked beautiful but according to the website they were not available. The room was tiny. Photos on the website were quite deceptive. No space for a suitcase. No hanging space except for a hook behind the door. The pillows were hard and uncomfortable. There was no hairdryer or iron available. Important as we were attending a wedding. For the price, very poor value. Annoyingly we were the only guests in the "hotel" during our stay so could easily have stayed in one of the other rooms and would have been far more comfortable.

beautifully styled with lots of interesting history of the Arnott family on display
the beds weren’t particularly comfortable and there was only a doona with no top sheet so we were either too hot or too cold

Beautiful old historic and charming building. It was warm and comfortable. Clean and inviting and the hosts were lovely and easy to deal with. Great great location. Cafes couple of doors down, great pub across the road. Parking right in front.
The VoVo room didn’t have a TV – it bothered my wife, but not me! The whole idea of a historic country get away was LESS noise. Peaceful not having todays blaring fake news or some other silly reality show in the back ground. BTW the WiFi works great so bring a laptop or smart phone if you cant life without tech for a day or two.

Gorgeous boutique accommodation - lovely check in experience -- great location -- a little piece of history with great attention to detail with furniture and fittings

Location was great. Clean.
Bathroom was good
But a strange little room. even though we had a lovely stay the room set up was not suitable for 2 people really even though there were 2 beds. No where to sit other than a high bed ( very hard to put even shoes and socks on) and only a sheer curtain separating toilet & shower from the 2 beds. No where to go while they were there.
No chair
No tv

Old-world charm, link to Australian culinary history (Mint-slices, Saos, iced-vovos... do I need to say more?)and great position. The toiletries and beautiful breakfast goodies were a pleasant addition.
Due to the age of the building noise travelled but that’s to be expected. Our room was a bit dusty and the lovely, huge verandah which we loved, was also a bit dusty. Out mattress was very comfortable but getting to a point of needing replacement.
