It's great located and we'could leave our car parked there directly next to the hostel. The host was super friendly! Everything was clean :).

great location, great people! everyone really friendly and helpful.
For cooking a stove is missing but nothing dramatic as you can use the grill

great guys that run the place awesome to deal with. I enjoyed it that much I extended my stay
1.5
it was close to the Colonial Beach
this place is old, messy, it looks nothing like in the photos, definitely has not been renovated in years. the room and bathroom were covered in a sticky dirt, the mosquito net in the bathroom was broken, the walls were so thin you could here everything that people were saying in other rooms. we couldn’t sleep and only wanted to avoid spending time in this place as much as we could. We even considered changing places, but it was only a two night stay, so we spend all of our time wandering around and driving to places nearby and then we left super early in the morning on the day of a check out. the owner marked our stay as no-show (THE AUDACITY!).

Very friendly atmosphere
Unbeatable value for money
Located very close to the national park

I started my travels at Uvita Pirates Hostel and it was truly the best possible start to my trip. I felt immediately at home and so welcomed by the absolutely wonderful people at pirates. They were all so great to me, helped me with a lot of things and showed me some beautiful spots in Uvita. The location was amazing, just a few minutes walk to the beach with the most beautiful sunsets and some great restaurants but still close to the stores, waterfalls and so. The area is very calm and I felt incredibly safe at all hours. The room was really nice, clean and very comfortable and the common areas great for hanging out, relaxing. I loved my stay so much and would definitely come back any time. Thank you Tom, Christine and the rest of the pirates family for opening up your hearts, welcoming me and giving me such a wonderful experience. I'll carry you and all the beautiful memories in my heart ❤️ Pura vida

Tom is a very committed owner and happy to help. The pirate style is really cool. We enjoyed to spend the evening in the rocking chair on the terrace.
The hostel is hard to find, there is not sign outside making it visible.

rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. hostel is well located for the beach although a bit further from the rest of town. staff were very friendly and helpful, including driving us to the bus stop in the middle of the night when there were no taxis!
it was quite a long walk to get to town/ uvita waterfalls. the kitchen could be better equipped, while it’s currently got various gadgets, it is difficult for more than 1 person to cook at the same time

Very comfortable and clean room. Definitely worth the money!
4.5
Lovely clean room, friendly staff and a good night's sleep.
A little bit far from a choice of facilities such as bus, ATM, restaurant/bar choices and some activities. However we were offered assistance with anything required so it wasn't that big of a problem.
3.5
- comfortable bed
- AC
- nice to chill on balcony area
- good WiFi
- booked a room with private bathroom (but shower didn't work, had to use the neighbours outdoor shower, but was offered a reduced rate)
- kitchen isn't really a working kitchen, no hob or oven to cook on, just a microwave, fridge and an electric frying pan

Lovely room. Loved the balcony.
Nice big kitchen and dining area.
Hosts very helpful and even got a haircut! Amazing restaurant very close. Food great. Owner took us to bus stop when leaving. Great people, would definitely stay again!
Although it was close to beach, it was a good 25 minutes to walk to main bars and restaurants
4.5
The hostel is very close to the beach, just a 5 minute walk. The room is small but very nice and comfortable including AC. Near by is a small supermarket and a Mexican restaurant. The owner Tom is really nice. He also drove me to the bus stop when I left Uvita.
It was cash only. The problem is, that the next ATM is pretty far away.

Great place. Staying in Uvita was definitely a highlight of our trip and staying in at Pirates was a part of it. Initially we were planning to stay there for two nights, but we felt so good there, that we actually stayed two nights longer. The hostel is very close to the beach, like 3 minutes walking distance. Owner of the hostel is a very positive guy and always there to help.
The property is a bit aside, quite far from restaurants and stores. Also it is located close to the beach, however the beach is a part of national park and entry fee for 24h is 6USD+tax, but hostel has nothing to do with that.

Nice location, near the beach/national park. Nick was friendly, and kindly dropped us at the bus station at the end of our stay.

Nick was super friendly from the moment I arrived.
I was able to check in early. The room was big and felt clean.
Nick also went out of his way to take me to the station for my bus which I really appreciated!
The location is really close to the national park too.

this place was amazing. there’s a supermarket across the street. beach access is a few hundred meters away. Nick was super awesome and friendly. he even offered to drive us to the waterfall which was a short driving distance but long walking distance away. kitchen is big and clean. multiple areas to hang out. ac in our room. hot showers. clean rooms. nick has a very cute dog. nick was also willing to help with whatever we needed.
if you don’t have a car, it’s a bit far to walk to the town/bus station (though not impossible)

Amazing place! Uvita and this hostel were definitely the highlight of my trip to Costa Rica. Hostel is nice and clean and just a 2 min walk from the beach. The owner, Nck, is the best! Super nice and extremely helpful. I highly recommend both Uvita and this place.

Nick was very friendly, welcoming and helped us out with anything we needed (drove us to the grocery store, rental car place etc). We loved our double room with a private bathroom, AC and balcony. It was very clean and comfortable. Just down the road was access to one of the entrances to the Marino Ballena National Park (it is $6 to enter for the day and you must pay with credit). He offered complimentary coffee in the morning and the kitchen had all you need to prepare your meals. You can pay for laundry on site and there is a little grocery store just around the corner. Good vibes.

I am nearly 1 week in Uvita right now and It‘s the perfect location to explore and chill in Uvita! The owner Nick and his dad are super gentel people from Canada and will help with any question or concerns you might have!
Come here alone or with friends or your family and live la pura vida!

The owner (the son of them two) is a pretty cool and laid-back guy who was really helpful with our whole stay, for example bringing us to the bus station with the car when we were in a hurry. Our room (3 beds) was cozy and the rest of the hostel nice to stay at.
The atmosphere was one of the best I had so far; its not a party hostel but fantastic for some beers and bbq. Most of the other guests have been quite cool and talkactive.
The kitchen could have been a bit more tidy for my taste.
The location is okay: One of the gates to the national park is at the end of the street from the hostel. One smaller supermarket is in front of the hostel. Bars, farmacies, restaurants etc. are a bit more far away. If you come by car no problem, but by foot you have to walk quite a lot or call an overprized cab.

Staff was friendly towards guests. They didn’t make a big deal when we said we wanted to change the booking from 3 nights to 1 night.
Staff was under the influence of alcohol and weed during the day, but they were still functioning normally and they were friendly. At night, though, they both started fighting heavily with each other (father and son). Punches were flying through the air, some of them were landing on each other, furniture was being pushed around, the son was bleeding, they would threaten about killing each other, the dog was barking in panic towards the surrounding houses. Eventually, we moved from the balcony (from where we could see and hear everything) to our friends’ room, but we still had to cross the common area where they were fighting. Of course we didn’t go back to our room until it had calmed down.
We were not afraid per se for our own safety, but when you’re traveling you don’t want this weird and sketchy vibe. It just doesn’t seem responsible for these people to maintain a hostel. We’d read and heard about the fights and substances’ use on other occasions, but we didn’t think it would be that bad. After one night we were convinced that we wouldn’t stay there for another 2 nights.
The hostel itself was very basic (not my concern per se), there were no actual windows in the frames, the bathroom wasn’t necessarily clean or functioning.
