About this cabin rental
Fall is coming, and now is the time to book your cool mountain get-away. In October when it's still hot in Phoenix, Pine is changing seasons, with chilly nights, cool days, and leaves starting to change color. The wood fireplaces open October 1, and with nights in the low 40s, you will want to build a warm and cozy fire in the main floor fireplace (basement fireplace is not available for burning!
This mountain home has 4 bedrooms plus a semi-private sleeping area in the finished basement, 3 full bathrooms, 2 fireplaces, 3 decks, and 2 living rooms.
*We switched out a twin bed for a king in the basement semi-private sleeping area. Pictures aren't updated yet.
Once you arrive, go up on the front deck, past the front door and rockers, through the gate to the side door. Use the keypad next to the side door.
Use the last 4 digits of the main contact's phone number. Refer to digital guest guidebook for more instructions. (search keyword "Getting In"

You are free to contact the host for anything that you can't find in the guidebook.
Pine is a small mountain community about 100 miles from the Phoenix metro area. There is a quaint commercial area on the main highway, with shops and restaurants.
Basement semi-private sleeping area now has a King bed instead of 2 twins. There is still a double bed, too. Pictures updated soon.

3. Only the guests who are booked may be at the house. If you want to have visitors, just let me know in advance. There may be an additional fee depending on the conditions. Large parties are not allowed, obviously.

We had an amazing time! Everything was so well stocked! From toiletries to baking items! So very clean! And yes we had 3 wandering elk come through the back property off the porch. The kids had fun with all the games and pool table! Shopping and cafes are very close ! Great communication with the host!

This was a great place, it had everything. Would definitely recommend to anyone. The only challenge was the driveway. It was hard to turn around with 2 cars in the driveway. Pulling out of the property is hard to see oncoming traffic. Other than that was a great place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wandering Elk Cabin! From morning to evening, we spent countless hours on the back deck, feeling like we were nestled in a forest. The deck was perfect for stargazing at night and listening to the birds during the day. We even made a little nuthatch friend who would come up to the deck to collect seed, and the hummingbirds were visiting the decorative feeders throughout the day.
The house had all the comfortable amenities we needed. Our friends and their daughter had a blast with all the basement games and activities. Many of our days were spent reading on the back porch and in the outdoor hammock, which was incredibly relaxing.
The grill was perfect for our Memorial Day cookout, and our dogs loved the cooler temps, hiking, and relaxing outdoors with us. The house is located near many great hiking trails. There was plenty of sleeping space, and the main floor bedrooms are ideal for guests who want to avoid stairs. All the rooms had everything we needed and more!
Debbie has curated a special place and is just the most lovely host. She was very responsive in advance, and during the visit. Her informative guidebook was so helpful, and made us feel like we were in a home away from home.
Lots of beautiful nature to enjoy, one day we saw a herd of 17 elk pass through the backyard! We even saw a mama cow and her calves meander through the yard.
Definitely recommend a weekend (or longer) at this special place, we had a blast! Thank you!

We loved our week here! It was spacious and comfortable. Our folks are in their seventies and stayed in the bedrooms on the main level. The kids and teenagers slept downstairs. The layout was great!

Debbie is a fantastic host. She goes above and beyond getting you prepped and keeping you informed for the stay.
The cabin was very nice and bigger than I anticipated. We had 5 adults a 6 year old and our dogs and never felt crowded. The house was modern and was capable of interfacing with everyone’s various entertainment systems that we brought. The internet was sufficient to have everyone’s phones connected while also allowing streaming and playing games on Xbox.
There was plenty of comfortable seating in every room. The fireplace was a big hit and feeding the squirrels was my granddaughter’s favorite morning activity.
Due to the weather we didn’t get much of an opportunity to enjoy the available outdoor amenities however; we look forward to using them on a future trip.
Some of the entertainment equipment such as the pool table / ping pong table is a little older and worn but that didn’t impact our experience as everyone still had a blast being horrible at both.
The inside of the cabin was immaculate and everything was high quality. The outside has some components that are a work in progress and I am sure once completed they will be excellent as well.
My only negative comment (and this wasn’t enough of an issue for me not to book again or recommend to friends and family) is the driveway. It’s a little scary the first time or two you use it and easy to miss the first time you pull up.
Overall we had a great trip and enjoyed the cabin thoroughly.

Our family could not have been more pleased with our visit to the Wandering Elk cabin! The accommodations were perfect for our group of eight. Everyone was very comfortable. This home truly has everything you might need for cooking or entertaining! The kitchen table fit our family plus two guests for our Thanksgiving dinner. The back patio was a real hit with all the bird watching, squirrel feeding, Javalina spotting and elk/deer looking. We didn't see any elk or deer from the porch, but many were seen out on the road. We truly anticipate returning to this perfect spot in the pines of Pine, AZ. Thanks to Debbie for being such a fabulous and accommodating host.

Could not have asked for a better property for our 2 families. The Wondering Elk cabin did not disappoint. We saw elk at the cabin everyday and the kids were able to sit on the patio and enjoy them. One of the most amazing experiences of our lives. If you ever get the chance, you have to try this place out, especially if you love wildlife. The accommodations were amazing and having the cracking of the fire at night was extremely peaceful. Finally, Debbie was the best host we have ever encountered!!! It was hard to write this as we would love to keep this place to ourselves. Honestly, if you are thinking about it, just hit book.

What an amazing cabin. Everything as advertised and more. There was more than enough room for the whole family and tons of wildlife to watch from the many windows. No complaints here and we are looking forward to booking for next year!!

It was a pretty good experience. A lot of the outside stuff could be cleaned a little more. We had to throughly clean the grill before we could even use it.

Total Relaxation with Family and Nature
We were so impressed by this gorgeous home beautifully situated amongst the pine trees. The owner, Debbie goes "over the top" with accommodations. she provides every last detail to make your stay the most accommodating and relaxing experience from a fully stocked kitchen, games in the basement, Propane fire pit outside for making s'mores, and a TV with streaming service. Debbie is so in tune with her guests that she makes a "welcome guide" available online that details everything possible about what is included in the home. She does an outstanding job of communicating via email and/or phone. This is by far, the best host we have ever encountered. Thank you Debbie!

The Wandering Elk Cabin, Pine Arizona
My husband and I were looking for the perfect place to escape the heat and just enjoy nature and we definitely found it at The Wandering Elk Cabin!!!! This home is absolutely beautiful inside and out! We enjoyed watching the javelinas in the evening from the deck (it faces into the stunning ponderosa pines), enjoyed watching the resident squirrel “Sammy” while he ate off the deck and entertained us from time to time, and we spent one morning watching the elk graze around the front and back yards from the upper decks! The cabin had everything you could think of and more!! Debbie’s attention to detail was above and beyond! She made sure we had everything we needed and was a phone call away if we had questions. She left hiking trail maps out for us and even left water bottles for our fur babies! We had the best weekend thanks to the Wandering Elk Cabin and the hospitality of Debbie and Dave! We would , without hesitation, recommend this cabin to all our friends and family and we plan to go back with our children and grand kids in the near future!

Very relaxing
This place was the perfect mid-week getaway for us to de-stress from work. The smell of the pines and the proximity to trails was great. Bonus was getting to see mule deer and other wildlife in the neighborhood.

Beautiful location in nature
The property is situated in an excellent location. We had people walk by while we were enjoying the weather on the front porch and comment on how it seemed like the perfect vacation rental. Accommodates a medium sized group well.

Wonderful Cabin
My son got married in Pine at the Tonto bridge park. We reserve three homes in Pine to accommodate friends and family. Wandering Elk was the best cabin and our hostess Debbie was the best. Debbie went out of of her to accommodate our needs, including to our two year old grandson. Theo has a blast with all the flags and animals, including Sammy the squirrel. The cabin became our “Base Camp” and the wedding was perfect. I strongly recommend Wandering Elk.

Wonderful getaway
We had such a wonderful time. The host was very communicative and did everything they could to make our stay perfect. The cabin was such a welcoming and relaxing space. And the drive up was only 2 short hours from Phoenix, making it very easy to get to for a short weekend getaway.

The cabin was wonderful, so many great spots to sit and enjoy nature. Best part was being able to choose the inside or outside to enjoy the forest.

Beautiful hide-away cabin/chalet in the forest
The rental process from beginning to end was seamless. Debbie created a detailed overview of the surrounding area of local businesses, restaurants, places of interest, etc. She sends to her renters once the contract is initiated. Great idea, this allows the renter time to develop a plan for their stay. She is Extremely well organized and her communication with the renters is second to none. The cabin itself is well stocked, with kitchen appliances, utensils, dinnerware, spices etc. Plenty of seating, inside and out. Views from the 3 decks are amazing, and we loved the wildlife. Seen deer, 3 javelina's, Sammy the squirrel and at least 10 elk within the residential area. Debbie outfitted the cabin with Roku tv's, made for fun time for family gatherings watching movies/popcorn. Then there's the basement living area, game room with pool table, (does need a little work), ping pong table, and lots of board games. This place has everything from comfortable beds, privacy, and entertainment. Truly a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Can't wait to come back. Debbie thank you for being a fantastic host. We loved talking with you.

Perfect cabin getaway
We loved the hostess, Debbie! I’ve personally never experienced such an attentive owner. The cabin was in a nicely wooded forest with lots of elk hence the name! The cabin was clean and very well equipped…. great WiFi , access to smart TVs, modern thermostat, abundance of firewood. She provided quality products and sweet gift upon entering. My granddaughter was so impressed with the personal message left for us! We made most meals at home and had all the equipment readily available. Debbie was quick to respond to any questions that did arise. We are looking forward to a summertime visit.

Absolutely Perfect!
As a corporate event planner, it is always difficult to find the perfect accommodations for a business retreat. This cabin was was more than that! It had all the space we needed while still allowing privacy for everyone. It was the first time in my three years of planning this retreat that I didn't have any complaints from my co-workers. Debbie the owner was checking in with me to insure my group had everything they needed, without being overbearing and intrusive. We will be back again! I'm already planning a personal trip to the cabin with my friends!

Amazing time, great house!
Debbie was great to work with and went way above and beyond what I would expect. The house was super clean. The layouts is great for multiple families, a bathroom and family room on each of the 3 floors. Tons of outdoor space. Great location in Pine. We had an amazing time.

Our family of 10 had a great time on Labor Day weekend. Lots to do with walks and hikes nearby and games downstairs. On-site laundry would have been nice but we had a great time all around.

Birthday Celebration
This home was more than large enough for the 8 adults who stayed here, and the other couples who came for the Birthday celebration. My wife usually brings linen and blankets to hotels and VRBO's because she loves clean sheets. We did not need to use them because the home was clean and the sheets smelled fresh and clean. I am a student and needed to attend Zoom classes at ASU while I was up there. The WiFi was perfect and I had no problems on the computer. In-fact, a friend who lives in Pine came to use the WiFi for her school as well because the WiFi in her home is not adequate for her school work. The homeowners kept in contact with me weeks leading to the trip, making sure that I had all of the information I needed to have a great stay.

Awesome cabin for the family
Great cabin with plenty of room for the family.. The owner has the home stocked with everything you could think of in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. There’s plenty of games to make family time entertaining. We were even lucky enough to have a cow elk walk up to the back porch and eat a few apples.
Easy check in/out with great communication with the owner.

Beautiful Stay
This property was perfect for our family. We had enough room for 4 days to get ready for many family events leading up to a family wedding. Plenty of games and activities to play for the random rain storm that caused us to stay in. Even a karaoke machine! Beds and linens were very comfortable and all the amenities we needed were provided. We had an unexpected issue with water in the basement (due to heavy rain one night) and Debby was prompt at responding to the situation.

Perfect Cabin, Perfect Location, Perfect Host.
We had the pleasure of renting this property for my wife's birthday. Three levels with plenty of room and very comfortable. Bedrooms on every level - so plenty of room for everybody. Plenty of outdoor seating on the various balconies. Squirrels, javelina, elk and deer all made a visit in the back of the property covered with tall pines. Our host, Debbie went out of her way to make us feel welcomed, and her communication and preparation were excellent. We hope to return for additional stays with family and friends. Thank you, Debbie!

Large, spacious, beautiful cabin in the woods
Six of us stayed in the spacious, well equipped and fully furnished cabin. The cabin is surrounded by Juniper forests and mountains, yet just five minutes from excellent restaurants and local shopping. With three floors, each with its own deck, there was plenty of room for private space There was a ping pong table, pool table, games and two large-screen TVs for family entertainment. It is a beautiful cabin in a lovely place, and importantly, within an easy two hour drive from Phoenix. The owner, Debbie, is easy and helpful and dedicated to making your stay a wonderful experience.

Fell in love with Wandering Elk Cabin !
Absolutely wonderful! If I could , I would give 100stars … We just had the most beautiful stay in this very lovely mountain home. Two nights of pure heaven ! Wandering Elk Cabin offered everything we could want. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay an incredible experience and has a touch of technology almost everywhere. Very well-equipped kitchen with beautiful fully functioning appliances. Basement has pool table, ping pong, and lots of board game. The best part is the host Debbie, she will make sure that all the questions are answered ( yes immediately !). Also keep you informed if the weather is favorable or not. Our son has asthma , she even asked me what kind of cleaner we use so that she would same thing ( before we arrived), absolutely amazing! I can’t imagine better customer service than this. I definitely plan to book Wandering Elk again and will advertise in my friend circle ( well , I already started).

Family Time
We rent vacation homes as a family quite often, and let me say, this home offers some of the best amenities out there! The beds are comfy, there are lots of blankets for the cool nights in the summer, and plenty of nice soft towels in the bathrooms. There are nice sharp knives in the kitchen and plenty of necessary appliances, pots and pans. We enjoyed the exercise of the stairs going up and down off of the main level, as we currently live in a single-story house. The game room downstairs kept us entertained for many hours with the pool table, ping pong, assorted games and karaoke. We saw many critters outside the home from the comfort of the patio areas~ deer, elk, and squirrels to name a few. There was a lot of shade from the trees and the umbrellas on the patios. The air conditioner in the living room works wonderfully to take away the heat of the day, and then we welcomed the chilly relief of opening the windows at night. We brought our bikes and enjoyed many rides, but beware that you are in the mountains~ lots of hills! Don’t forget your helmets 😉.
Debbie couldn’t be more accommodating if she tried~ you won’t go wrong with her customer service! Thank you for everything!!

Family Fun
My adult children and 3 grandchildren (ages 2-8) recently stayed at the Wandering Elk cabin. It was very clean and well stocked. The kitchen had a great supply of dishes and pots and pans. The outdoor decks are large with plenty of seating. The first evening the grandchildren spotted an elk feeding right in the back yard. The beds were comfortable and plentiful. Linens and toiletries were provided. We spent a lot of time playing the games provided with the cabin; you don't need to bring your own!! The grandkids loved the pool table and the ping pong table and the large tv in the downstairs area. The windows on the main level provide a great view of the forest so you can just sit back and relax. There are gadgets like the Ninja Coffee Bar and Ember coffee mugs, as well as wi-fi and Roku. When we were there, it was unseasonably hot, so we were warm because the air conditioner is just in the main area. However, once the evening cooled down and the house cooled down, the next day the house was comfortable. That was just Mother Nature. There is an evaporative cooler which we used and it helped, also. The only other minor glitch we had was that none of the 6 adults in the cabin could get the can opener to work!!!!! But it entertained and challenged us. The best part of Wandering Elk Cabin is the owner, Debbie Burney. From the beginning of the rental, she was immediately responsive and helped me add an additional day. When I had any questions, she was friendly and helpful. I definitely plan to book Wandering Elk again or another rental she might be taking care of. It's worth it to have someone who cares if you have a pleasant experience. I have rented with VRBO before and, although the owners have been good, Debbie puts them to shame.

Beautiful cabin and perfect location
We rented three cabins in the same area to accommodate everyone in our group. This cabin was by far the best, fully stocked with lots of board games. We seen lots of wildlife coming through. Debbie was awesome and always available for any questions we had.

Fantastic place!
Everything about our experience was fantastic! Great open floor plan with plenty of space! The pictures don’t do it justice, so much more grand and beautiful in person. The property has an awesome backyard where the kids and family pup had plenty of room to run to play. We saw elk walking through the backyard area from the deck, it was awesome!
Plenty of beds for multiple sleeping arrangement options. The basement game room was especially fun! We played ping pong, pool, bags and even sang karaoke on the fun little machine provided!
The house was well stocked with plenty of plates, glassware, good sharp knives for prepping and great pans for cooking, and a beautiful outdoor grill! Make sure you use the grill mats for the best experience! The espresso/coffee machine was put to good use while we were there too. Such a nice touch!
The house was very clean and the beds were comfy. The wood burning stove was such a treat! Oh, and they provided wood for it. We wanted for nothing while we were there.
We enjoyed lots of long hilly walks with the fam through the neighborhood and spotted wildlife on every adventure!
Debbie was very helpful throughout the stay and makes the check in/out process extremely simple and easy. She was friendly and quick to respond to any of our questions!
We highly recommend this property if you’re looking for a peaceful weekend in Pine!
