We had a very relaxing time. The property is very ideally located. A very comfortable house.

This is a beautiful house in a gorgeous location. My granddaughter and I loved the views of the cove and the bay, and the location is great for day trips to other areas of south-central Nova Scotia. We were delighted to have a visitor one morning while having breakfast: a seal appeared in the cove, directly in front of the house, and we watched it for nearly an hour. Along with the various sea birds, and the beautiful views all around, we simply loved the place. It is very comfortable, peaceful, and secluded. Phil is an excellent host, ready with recommendations for restaurants and helpful advice. Red Roof is an outstanding place for a getaway vacation in Nova Scotia.

We had such a great time here in 2021 on a work retreat that we came back in 2024. The cottage was great and secluded.
The small beach down the road is wonderful and the sunrises are unforgettable!

We had a great stay in a wonderful location on an island. When you go there the trip is already a great adventure. The view and the surrounding is spectacular. The house is very nice and have everything you need. The host really takes care and it feels like a huge welcome to Canada!

If you like going off the beaten path and taking the road less travelled…then this is absolutely the sanctuary you are looking for! A private cove with no neighbours to speak of this place is perfect to escape the frenetic pace of the world. It is perfectly situated to easily get to places like Halifax, Peggy’s cove, Lunenburg and mahone Bay. The house is well cared for and very clean, the kitchen is decently outfitted. The host met us promptly and gave us all kinds of tips for the area and showed us around. He was quick to answer text questions and super helpful. Thanks for a wonderful place to stay!

This property is exactly as described and much more. The location is remote, quiet, and an amazing view. Perfect for seeing the sunrise and disconnecting from your normal day today. It was also very clean. Phil was incredibly responsive, helpful and a wonderful host. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a place that is off the beaten path.

I cannot express how absolutely gorgeous the property is! My three young adult kids actually gasped when we turned into the driveway and saw the view. Very comfortable home, clean and accommodating and Phil was a great host! The area is quiet and remote but close enough to sites like Peggy's Cover for a day trip. Highly recommend this property!!
The only thing we had some confusion over was the laundry situation. Listing states a washer and dryer so we just assumed we could do our own load when we arrived. However, the are not for guest use - laundry is available as an added service which we thought could be an add on if we didn't feel like doing our own. No big deal but jsut be aware! :)
Thanks Phil for a fabulous stay! Will never forget my afternoon watchin two seals frolic right in front of the house!

So restful and an astoundingly gorgeous location. Couldn't be happier with the stay, the house, the area, and Phil gave such good advice! We had a glitch with the stove (our problem, not the stove) and he popped over to straighten us out in a flash. Finding the place in the dark was a bit of a challenge; if you have cell coverage, it should be fine. Otherwise, it is wise to examine a map very carefully before you set off (in the dark).

What a unique location this was. Located on a small island and one of only a few places around. A hidden gem. The owner, Phil, lives right across the road and was available and helpful with all needs. The house itself was great with newer appliances and all was all was very clean.
This place is right on the ocean in a small little bay that was very beautiful for swimming and snorkeling. That being said, it is a rocky shoreline and not the easiest to enter the water, especially at low tide. It would not be a good spot for little kids, however, there are many nice beaches within a 10 minute drive.
Traveling around the south shore attractions was east from this location and there were tonnes of things to see with an hours drive in either direction.
I would not hesitate to return to this place in the future.

We loved everything about our stay! We were at the red roof for two nights and wish we would of booked a week! The views are wonderful. The location is peaceful and quiet with amazing wildlife views! We saw seals, birds, jumping fish, etc. We arose early to colorful and beautiful sunrises! The house is open and full of light and clean! We cooked in the kitchen both nights and everything we needed was there. Wish we had time for an outside fire and to use the grill. Phil and Catherine are awesome hosts and people! Friendly, welcoming and helpful! We cant wait to go back to the Red Roof and to visit our new "host" friends! If you are looking to be with nature, this is the right place!

My Sister, Nephew and I go on an annual trip to the beaches. This year did not dissapoint - Beautiful and tranquil. Phil met us and told us of places to swim and explore on foot from the cottage.
Enjoyed sitting out back by the water, playing games on the large dining room table, relaxing and reading books and cooking in a well supplied kitchen. Normally we do take aways but with the view and beautiful kitchen it was enjoyable to cook.
We enjoyed Bayswater and Queensland Beaches.
Bayswater is only 12 mins away so we went three times!
It would be a great place to bring your bike and kayak!
I definitely would have enjoyed those activities as well. Remember a pair of sneakers (my sister didn't) as you will want to walk around and explore!

The cottage is exactly as described in the pictures. Very clean and spacious for a family of four to play board games, read a book, or just relax watching the waves crashing on the shore. Phil was very responsive before and during the stay and love to come again on our next vacation in Nova Scotia.

If you need to unplug, stare at the ocean and recharge your battery in front of a crackling fire- look no further than the Red Roof to take a time out. You couldn’t ask for better hosts!! We can’t wait to go back and miss it already.

We had a wonderful stay! The view is amazing and the house is lovely. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The hosts are very helpful and made our visit to their home easy and comfortable. Helped track down fresh lobsters off the boat! Delicious. Grateful for their kindness and welcoming us into their home. Hope for a return visit! Thank you Phil and Catherine

My mother, sister and I stayed at the house for a girls’ weekend away. It was perfect! The house was bright and clean; our host, Phil, was very responsive and made the stay a pleasure. I would definitely recommend the Red Roof for a relaxing getaway.

The view is beautiful, the location is far away from just about everything. We had to drive 30 to 40 miles to get to a decent restaurant. It was November, so off season I'm sure, but still the drive to Peggy's cove is 40 miles. Next decent shore town is Lunenburg, which is about 35 miles. No TV, which was advertised, no radio. It you want to get in touch with nature, this is the place. Also, and most important, there are 3 beds basically on the floor with wood around them, very very uncomfortable. Pillows were so thin, I had to use 4 or 5 just to get some comfort. The fourth bed which is off the floor somewhat is still very uncomfortable. I told Phil the owner, these beds have got to go. Maybe he doesn't realize how uncomfortable they are unless he slept in one. Don't get me wrong, Phil was very nice and pleasant, nothing to do with him personally. I just think people should know what they are getting into before they rent. I am shocked that the previous reviews never mentioned the beds and pillows. Honestly couldn't wait to get home to sleep in my own bed. I also mentioned to Phil that the Wi-Fi in the house should be free because it's not costing him a penny for us to use. It's off of his internet in his house. I told him you are nickel and diming people at $10.00 per day for internet. Thank God for Wifi, if not, we would probably have lost are minds. At least you can stream with the Wi-Fi to watch something. Unless perfect solitude is your thing, then maybe no internet service works for you.
P.S. Pick up groceries at Sobey's in Tatallion about 20 Miles away.

This was just what we needed. Celebrating our anniversary at this property was perfect. Waterfront on St. Margaret's Bay, we witnessed jumping Tuna fish and seals, and on land, just a few feet from us, deer.
There is a unique, quiet road in, suitable for hikes, and there are trails on the property as well.
The property is very nice with updated appliances and it sports a wood burning fireplace with unlimited wood.
Within 5 kms of our property, we enjoyed a round of golf at Aspotogan Ridge Golf Course, and 20 mins away is the best Seafood Chowder ever at the Tuna Blue Inn.
The property owners, Phil and Catherine are very "down to earth", easy going. Very nice for our first experience using Vrbo.
I would highly recommend this property, 5 stars for sure!

This property was a perfect place to get away with friends. Phil was accommodating but not overbearing. It is located centrally to Peggy’s Cove and Lunenburg making both accessible for enjoyable side trips when you are not exploring this island and the beauty it offers. It has become the identifying ideal of Nova Scotia for us!

We enjoyed everything from the majestic ocean sounds and views to the cozy fireplace. Our only regret is that our trip itinerary didn’t allow us more time there. Phill was super responsive to any questions we had. We loved exploring the island

We enjoyed a great four day stay here. The host and his family were very accommodating and helpful, particularly as we arrived just after Hurricane Fiona. The best but was the wildlife, we saw and photographed deer, foxes, raccoons, eagles, ducks, cormorants and a giant tuna leaping out of the sea. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect getaway when we only had a couple of days. Did not miss a television or any electronic devices as the outdoors invited us to spend our time enjoying the beautiful property, awesome weather and quiet time.
We like our privacy and certainly had that too, but knowing our very friendly and welcoming hosts were only a few minutes away offered peace of mind.

There is much that I can say but honestly, it is far better to experience the lovely tranquility of The Red Roof. The house is lovely, airy and bright but manages to stay cosy. The location is convenient, if you want to visit all that the area has to offer. The hosts are kind, diligent and helpful. The view is wonderful... an amazing gem of a vacation spot.

The Red Roof is everything you would want in a home away from home! Roomy but intimate at the same time. The views are spectacular and make you never want to leave! Thank you Phil for a very special anniversary trip!

a tranquil paradise
We have stayed in the area a few times before but this property is by far the best vacation spot. The house is bright and clean throughout, the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals, and the views are spectacular. This is the perfect place to get far away from the busy world and enjoy the ocean in all its splendor. We saw so much wildlife while just sitting on the lawn in our beach chairs. We were lulled to sleep each night by the gentle sound of the waves. Our only regret is that we didn't book a longer stay, which we will do for next time. Thank you, Phil, for being a delightful host. We enjoyed every minute of our time at Red Roof.

Serenity!
What a beautiful location and property! We had a wonderful time fishing, site seeing, watching the sea lions from the porch and falling asleep to the crashing waves on the rocks. The hosts were amazing! Thanks Phil and Cathy for a truly wonderful get away! So many great things about this place, too many to mention them all. We wished for “one more night”!!

Peaceful Seclusion
Property overall is a wow! Beautiful home right on the water with everything you could need for a great vacation. Large kitchen if you decide to cook. Home is filled with light and great views from almost every room. Front porch is a great place to relax, read and enjoy a glass (or 2) of wine while enjoying the wildlife in the cove. We saw a seal, many seabirds, also deer and a woodchuck. Phil was a great host and we enjoyed chatting with him. Many restaurants fairly close by. Easy travel to both Halifax and Lunenberg. We both enjoyed our stay!
