The home is perfect for a large family to unite in for a visit. Most rooms had their own bathroom and some even their own living room. There was a lot of room for everyone to have space. The front porch was very comfortable to sit and have coffee while the kids ran their scooters up and down the sidewalk. There was an issue with anys in the kitchen, which could happen anywhere. The host responded quickly to get rid of them.

We were a group of five seniors who rented this lovely home as our base for Wine Tasting. Everything was to our liking. Easy check-in. The house was clean, well-stocked and quite cozy. Walking distance to Whitman College.
We would stay here again.

We had a unique late March stay at The Maxwell House. Penny was away on holiday but rented the entire house to us for our party of nine. Her assistant, Brenda, was available to help with any questions or issues. While we missed Penny's hospitality and her famous breakfasts and cookies, we were happy to have bedrooms and baths for four couples plus a single all under one roof. We appreciated access to the kitchen for our cooking needs, i.e. lots of coffee and tea making. With so many great restaurants in town, we mostly ate out and, on a couple of occasions, brought in take-out meals.
The Maxwell House is a beautiful old Walla Walla home located on a lovely residential street near Whitman College. For those who enjoy walking, it's a comfortable distance to downtown restaurants, shops and tasting rooms. There's plenty of parking at the front and back of the house. It was too cold to use the outdoor space but we thought it looked very inviting.
The decor of the house is quite traditional and, while perhaps not to everyone's taste, is in keeping with the era of the home. Bathrooms are updated and have nice showers. Bedrooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. The house is very clean. Bed linen and bath towels are a nice quality.
What we enjoyed most about the house was the spaciousness of the living and dining room. As a large group, we enjoyed having room to hang out together for morning coffee and an evening glass of wine. The space was perfect.
All in all, we had a very nice stay. We'll look forward to Penny's breakfasts and cookies next time.
Thanks so much for having us!

We were a party of five seniors in Walla Walla for some wine tasting. Flawless stay from start to finish. Never had to contact the property manager, but couldn’t submit this review without giving her a rating, so kindly disregard that rating. We would stay here again.

Great home for a larger group
We were able to have all of our family members in the same home for a family vacation and wedding. It was great to be together rather than split between 2 houses. A bathroom for every bedroom was also very helpful.
The kitchen was a bit disorganized and needed a deep clean, but we were able to find everything we needed to cook and enjoy some meals at the property. Great indoor and outdoor seating areas!

Maxwell House
This is a spacious and beautiful property. Lots of bathrooms meant it was easy for plenty of girls to get ready for a weekend of wine tasting. We had a handicapped visitor with us and she was able to get in and out of the house pretty easily, as well as a bedroom and a restroom!
Highly recommend!

Perfect group house for 4 couples
Private bathrooms for each room was great plus a large living room, dining area and kitchen for congregating was perfect! Parking was ample. Centrally located to all the wineries and restaurants we wanted to go to. We loved the house and would consider renting it in the future!

Great location; house added even more enjoyment to our trip
We recently stayed with my wife, her parents (70s) and two children (15 and 13) and we had a wonderful time at this property! First, when looking at the pictures online while booking it we were a bit nervous that the intense color would be too detracting, but it really worked with the vibe of the house! The rooms were great, we loved that there was an array of reading material (books, but also brochures, historic information, etc.) and the central air really helped (outside temp was 100+). We strolled around the neighborhood checking out the other houses in the area, and I would highly recommend it as there are so many beautiful properties in the area. Would definitely stay again!!

Disappointing and Dirty
I'm always hesitant to leave a poor review because we can find the good in all things...this is an exception. The house was ant infested...not a few...they were all over the kitchen and lower bedrooms and in the dining room/living room. The hood fan in the kitchen is horrendously filthy. The shower head in the queen bedroom first floor was loose and coming out of the wall. Sigh. We were given the wrong access code--I called; they owned it; we were excited. The house itself is large and accommodated our group well, but the furniture is old and falling apart--not a comfortable sitting room at all. The grounds are EXQUISITE...lovely outdoor eating areas…it’s deceptive. There is adequate parking which is always nice—it was safe and secure. We all cleaned and wiped down our quarters because of the dust…that’s shameful given the exorbitant cleaning fee…someone is getting ripped off. We normally always tip housekeeping since that is a thankless task, but we agreed as a group we would be wasting our money. Did I mention the ants? We should ABSOLUTELY be refunded our cleaning fee…the ants.
We have stayed in many of the larger homes in the Valley and have never had such discomfort and filth.

Good Morning---
There are quite a few ants in the kitchen and one of the bedrooms...all are quite small, but there's clearly an infestation of ants in the house--I thought you should know this.
Thank you--happy Friday!

I had seen just a few and got them so had hoped they were not a problem yet. I really am thankful you let me know! The exterminator thinks they are after water since it is so hot and dry.

I was hoping I had them gone. The exterminator has been called. Thank you for letting me know.

Our Home in Walla Walla
We were three couples who are old friends living in different states getting together for a week to do some wine tasting. The house and garden are so beautiful and the access to adventures in Walla Walla so convenient that we wanted to stay longer. The house was very comfortable for three couples. Everyone had an ensuite. It was a heat spell and the central air conditioning worked great. The neighborhood is beautiful and we took morning walks through it and the adjacent college campus. We spent long hours sitting in the garden. We cooked meals in the kitchen and on the infra-red grill. There was also a charcoal grill. Everyone gathered in the kitchen during breakfast and cooking. The living room had more than enough room for all of us to sit for long visits. We look forward to booking the Maxwell House again for sure.

Family celebration
Celebrating a 60th birthday with family and this house served all 7 of us perfectly. Great space for everyone, bedrooms are generous with bathrooms attached. We also took advantage of the kitchen, cooking most of our meals together. Highly recommend this home for larger get togethers.

Very Nice House - A couple issues though
House is big and spread out. We enjoyed having the space for our family of 5 house holds to spread out and sleep and have multiple conversations. Also the location was great for kids, we walked to 3 different playgrounds on different days. We also enjoyed walking downtown to do a bit of shopping.
The downsides: First the front (wooden) staircase was cleaned with something that made it dangerously slippery. I did fall on it, and after that we only used the back carpeted staircase (which is steep and narrow as you would expect in a historic house). The suites with sitting rooms are both upstairs so if you have people with balance issues that should be kept in mind when booking.
The other issue is that the kitchen is presented as a gourmet kitchen. It has all the appliances but not much in the regular cooking department. We only found one cutting board, no large chef knife, the biggest pot was not big enough to make a spaghetti dinner for our whole crowd. There were plenty of place settings, cutlery, mugs, electric tea kettle etc. So if you are expecting to cook meals for a crowd you might want to bring knifes and cutting boards and a bigger pot.
All and all we had a great time!
