About this bed and breakfast
Welcome to your own private suite at the corner of Esplanade and Chartres, right where the rollicking French Quarter scene spills into the famous jazz dens of Frenchman Street.
Located on the ground floor of the stately Lanaux Mansion - itself a piece of New Orleans history - your Wieland Suite accommodation combines all the grace and charm of a bygone era with every modern comfort you could want - wi-fi, air conditioning, sitting areas for when you need to get some work done, and a flat-screen HDTV for when you don't.
Vaulted ceilings soar high above the luxurious king bed, your refuge after a night of fun, food, and drink.
Want to sleep in? Your private kitchenette has a full-sized fridge for groceries and leftovers, so breakfast is whenever you want it. Same goes for midnight snacks.
Need fresh laundry? There's a washer and dryer right next to the fridge, exclusively for your use.
And when you could use some freshening up yourself, you'll appreciate your newly updated in-suite bathroom.
You'll enter the Lanaux property through a private gate off Chartres Street, and pass by the lush garden courtyard - a wonderful place for relaxed coffees or cocktails - on the way to your rooms.
Everything you need is right here for you, though we imagine you won't be spending too much time inside. After all, you're mere steps away from the city's best entertainment, restaurants, and bars.
The French Market, Bourbon Street, the Mississippi riverfront, and Frenchmen Street - each packed with unforgettable sights, scents, and sounds - are all within a two-block stroll.
You couldn't possibly see and do everything New Orleans has to offer . . . but you can sure have fun trying!

A NOTE ABOUT COVID-19
Our cleaning team will rigorously disinfect your room before you arrive, sanitizing all surfaces including door handles, remote controls, pushbuttons, light switches, and bathroom fixtures. ABOUT THE LOCATION
Step outside the Lanaux Mansion grounds and go left to hit the bars and restaurants of the French Quarter, or go right to find the myriad music spots on Frenchmen Street.
You're about a block from either.
Also within a few minutes' stroll are the famous and sprawling French Market, the legendary beignets and cafes au lait of the Cafe du Monde, the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral, and the paddle-wheeled steamboats along the Mississippi waterfront - not to mention more bars, restaurants, museums, curio shops, and art galleries than you could possibly ever visit in one trip.
The dream-like settings of Audubon Park and City Park, with their massive moss-covered oaks and glorious historic mansions lining the nearby avenues, are a short drive or bike ride away. Further afield, you have the deep Louisiana bayous full of gators and cajuns alike, plus historic battlefields and plantations to tour.
Grab a drink and start planning your trip now. Or come with no plan at all. Either way, having a great time in the Big Easy is, well, easy.
ABOUT THE LANAUX MANSION
You might recognize the stately Italianate mansion at 547 Esplanade from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," just one of the many films and TV shows in which it's been featured.
The house itself is a star, with a fascinating past. But it's not just its good looks and pedigree that make the Lanaux so attractive. It's the unbeatable location at the corner of Chartres Street and Esplanade Avenue - which literally straddles the line between the rollicking French Quarter scene and the famous music clubs and jazz dens of Frenchman Street.
Sitting in the courtyard with a julep in your hand, you'll often hear the blare of trumpets, the drums of a parade, and the whistle of a steamboat rolling down the mighty Mississippi, just blocks away. If you're lucky, you might even catch a second-line or jazz funeral during your stay here.
Built in 1879 by wealthy attorney Charles Andrew Johnson, the house has played host to not only actors and film crews, but to prominent figures of history including southern general Robert E. Lee and others. Some even claim there's a ghost among its distinguished list of guests.
Wallpaper from around the time of the American Civil War still adorns the massive double parlors downstairs, as does much of the home's original furniture. The vaulted guest-room ceilings soar high overhead. And the decor is a fine mix of classic period architecture and stylish upscale amenities.
In 140 years, it has changed owners only four times. Most recently, it was the gregarious and accomplished New Orleanian businesswoman Ruth Bodenheimer who ran the home as a much-loved bed and breakfast for decades until her passing in 2019.
Inspired by Ruth's love for the house and the one-of-a-kind city called New Orleans, her daughter Beth now proudly carries on the legacy of making guests feel welcome and at home here.
Whether it's a romantic cottage getaway for two, or a big group such as a wedding party, you can book just one room or all five of them, plus the gorgeous large dining room and lavish double parlors for special events.
Spacious suites have kitchenettes and private bathrooms. You'll come and go as you please through your personal entrance on Esplanade or Chartres streets.
Everything here is set up for your comfort and convenience.

Wonderful accommodations steps away from the French Quarter. We stayed in comfort and luxury. However, the neighborhood is very noisy at night, especially with obnoxiously loud cars that pass by. Some sketchy people hanging out by the front steps or along the side street into the wee hours, often yelling at each other.

Loved the location! Walking distance to the Quarter but plenty of local spots to entertain and to eat! Had a wee bit of trouble with the lock system but the hosts were very communicative.

My daughter and I took a girl’s trip. We enjoyed our stay at the Lanaux Mansion in the Wieland Suite. It was very clean, well set up. I love the history of the house and the manager was gracious enough to give us a tour of the main house. It was in close proximity to everything, but wasn’t noisy at night.

Wife & I on a big road trip, hit big east early on. Great time in New Orleans. The room was amazing! The AC, my best friend! Thank you!!! Good memories!

I stayed in this delightful property for Mardi Gras. It’s the perfect location if you are in for a weekend regardless of what event you are visiting New Orleans for. Easy in and out by car compared to most properties in the French quarter, situated between the French quarter and the Frenchman area. The excellent off street parking was perfect.
In addition to the location, the building is old and grand.
The room is on the first floor and it is a busy area so there was some street noise but the window unit air conditioner which work perfectly well too cool the room this time of year drowned out passer byes just fine.

Lovely apartment within the historic mansion. Outer gate has lock with codes for each guests. Very comfortable bed. Full size refrigerator with freezer underneath. Washer, dryer and microwave. Owner had small milk cartons and orange juices in refrigerator for us. There is a window unit that puts out a good amount of both heat and AC. Courtyard outside your door. Situated across the street from the French Quarter and around the corner from the music of Frenchman Street.

We loved our stay. The apartment was in a great location and in a beautiful historic building. Beth was very helpful. Highly recommend if you’re visiting New Orleans.

Beth was great, super easy to communicate with and responds quickly! We loved our little spot in the Marigny. Incredibly easy to get around and felt super safe doing so. The space was lovely and spacious. Plenty of room to unpack and get settled (even though we had a short trip). We will be staying here again!
4.9
Great location. Property is at the edge of the French Quarter, a block from Frenchman’s Street. The rooms are more spacious than the pics portray. We will book this property again when visiting.

The Lanaux Mansion B&B was such a quaint and intimate place to stay, yet captured all the vibes and feels of living as a local in NOLA. Everything you could ever want to experience and do during your stay is just walking distance away. This was the perfect weekend getaway place for my husband and I and the Mansion will be our preferred spot from now on!

Absolutely perfect location- we didn't need to rent a car and got to explore so much of New Orleans. The Wieland Suite was beautiful and comfortable. Highly recommend this location!

My wife and I stayed in one of the suites of the manor for our honeymoon. It is really a nice property! On arrival, my door code wasn't working, but the property manager was very easily reachable and fixed the problem immediately over the phone! The location itself is very convenient as well! Nestled right between Frenchman Street and the French Quarter, this location is perfect to walk anywhere you need to go! We really didn't even need our car!
That brings up the only negative part of our stay.
It's not any fault of the property's, so I don't penalize them, but the parking situation in this area is pretty horrendous. There is either street parking (which was always fully packed our entire stay and has lots of warnings about towing) or a couple pay lots 1 street down. I would STAY AWAY from the pay lots! Our car got broken into the second to last night of our stay, and judging by the glass all over the ground, it is a common occurrence. We ended up having to leave one night early to go book a hotel near where we could get the glass fixed in the morning before our drive home. In retrospect, I would either not have brought a vehicle, or paid to park it downtown in one of the big building/hotel parking decks with some semblance of security.
Other than that ordeal, however, this place is a great find! Very clean, lots of little amenities/coffee/snacks and a nice washer/dryer. Plus the uniqueness of the suite itself, with high ceilings and cool old furniture.

It was a great space and had all the amenities we needed. It was so close to the action but quiet at night to rest for the next day. I would go back.

Beautiful, historic property
I’m not the same guy on Sunday morning that I am on Saturday night. I enjoy going out at night and having a great time, but I also enjoy a slow, quiet morning. The outdoor space here is perfect for a cup of coffee and has a historic feel to boot. Highly recommend this place! Very close to nightlife.

My husband and I celebrated our 24th anniversary. Four wonderful nights. Love the place.
Love the location. The bed slept wonderful. I would definitely stay here again.

Couldn't have been happier with choice to celebrate a special occasion in NOLA while staying here. Beth is a friendly and responsive owner, and her property is beautifully maintained and wonderfully situated. When we needed assistance with a place to keep luggage after checkout, the management was quick to accommodate. Other guests were friendly and courteous. Just be prepared though, outside foot traffic can get a bit loud at night (the disposable earplugs provided on the nightstand quickly became useful)! Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Close to everything. Clean well taken care property. We enjoy the festival right there in front of us. No need for car rental. I am definitely staying again. The property owner were very fast to respond at all times and more than services driven. Gave us really good tips of places to eat and visit. No doubt the best experience ever for a first timer at NoLa and considering my first experience with VRBO rentals was not a very good one. Recommend 100%.❤️❤️❤️

perfect location to see the french quarter
We stayed at the mansion for 10 days for a halloween trip. Knowing practically nothing about new orleans, we lucked out finding this place. The mansion is beautiful, although i didnt get to see inside of it. The weiland suite has a separate entrance which was great for us since we were out all night and slept all day. Our host thought of all details. there was body wash and shampoo in the shower, and breakfast snacks in the refrigerator. There is even a white noise machine and earplugs to help you sleep better. There is also a washer and dryer for your use which came in handy. We parked our car in the decatur lot for the week which is just a short walk away from the mansion. we only took the car out of the lot one time and just walked everywhere. Its a wonderful location to see everything in the french quarter. I love staying in older homes and really appreciate the the woodwork, ironwork and the other things you dont get when you stay in a hotel. It was clean, and comfortable and i enjoyed every second i was in new orleans. I cannot wait to go back.
