About this apartment rental
CIN: IT037006C2K286B4NK
Magnificent 200 m2 apartment comprising living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The property is located on the second floor (with elevator) of a stately building once owned by the Mattei family, which is located in the heart of Bologna, approximately a 5-minutes walk from Piazza Maggiore.
Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen and are provided with bed linens and towels. Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting at the apartment to explain how everything works and to hand over the keys. During your stay, our staff is available to address any requests or concerns.
This gorgeous, classic and elegant apartment was partially renovated in May 2017 to ensure guests a pleasant stay in a refined setting equipped with the latest amenities. Even though it overlooks Strada Maggiore, one of the most important routes to reach the city center, the property is extremely quiet thanks to its double-pane windows. Wooden paneling, double exposure and, above all, walls with thickness greater than one meter guarantee great thermal insulation and keep the apartment cool even in the warm summer months; during summer tenants have 2 portable air conditioners at their disposal. Heating is centralized throughout the building and adjustable through thermostats installed on each radiator. Like all the most prestigious buildings in Bologna, this property too features Venetian flooring in the living room, and hardwood in the sleeping area.
The property opens onto the large entrance and the scenic hallway leading to the sleeping area and formal living room. The living area is furnished with classic and very elegant taste, with typical Art Nouveau touches; the lounge area includes two comfortable velvet damask sofas, a pouf (which can be converted into a single bed), and some armchairs upholstered with fine fabrics, completed with a Smart TV. The finely worked stone dining table can comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests and is surmounted by a magnificent Murano glass chandelier. Two large bookcases frame the large window which overlooks the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi and its distinctive porticoed cloister, allowing guests to immerse themselves immediately in the medieval atmosphere pervading the center of Bologna.
The large kitchen features an island with stools, which can be used for breakfast or a quick lunch. The kitchen is fully equipped, and includes dishwasher, electric oven, microwave and induction hob. Guests have at their disposal a full set of hand-decorated plates and a very spacious pantry.
A long corridor leads to the sleeping area, which consists of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Both rooms have vestibules, each containing built-in closets and double beds. In particular, the master bedroom stands out for its elaborate furniture and decor, such as beautiful wooden paneling, magnificent screen with mirrors, and refined sliding wooden and crystal door, all engendering a fascinating vintage setting. The guestroom, in addition to the double bed, also includes a single bed.
The apartment has 2 bathrooms, the largest with bathtub and the other with walk-in shower. The dressing room of the bathroom facing the guestroom also includes washer and dryer. This property is in a very convenient position from which Bologna’s monuments can be reached in less than 5 minutes on foot, and the city’s Fairgrounds and airport can be accessed by the numerous buses traversing Strada Maggiore and nearby Piazza Aldrovandi. Finally, the train station is less than a 20-minute walk from the apartment, or reachable more rapidly by bus.

Area:
The apartment is the immediate vicinity of the old medieval town. Strada Maggiore is one of the main routes leading to Torre degli Asinelli and, from there, to Piazza Maggiore. The property is located in the luxurious setting of Palazzo Mattei, residence of the Mattei family and laboratory of electro-homeopathy products until 1969, when the descendants of this dynasty permanently moved to Milan. To those who want to deepen their knowledge of this noble Bologna dynasty, whose most illustrious ancestor, scientist and alchemist Cesare Mattei, founded his own peculiar medical science - applied, among others to the Tsar of Russia and Princess Sissi of Austria - we recommend booking a visit to Rocchetta Mattei, a large monumental complex nestled in the Bologna hills.
Today, the seat of the University is less than a 5-minute walk from the apartment, on Via Zamboni, where the Municipal Theatre is located, an artistic institution famous for its rich Opera season calendar. Among the city’s most interesting monuments surrounding the apartment, the best known are St. Stephen's Square (with the magnificent seven churches built top of each other and the wonderful Corte Isolani) and the Asinelli Tower, which leans suggestively towering over the Garisenda Tower. The Palazzo dei Banchi arcade lends one of its sides to form the so-called Quadrilateral of the Emilia region’s food and wine tradition: a true maze of pedestrian streets where visitors can find the region’s best delicacies (cold meats, fresh pasta and wine). In short, a real sanctuary for gourmands. Finally, shoppers can unwind along crowded Via Indipendenza, or in the haute-couture shops of Galleria Cavour, or the elegant boutiques on Via Farini and Via d'Azeglio.
In the immediate vicinity, you will find Piazza Aldrovandi, home to one of Bologna’s oldest markets. Here, you can buy all local food and wine delicacies, fresh meat and fish, as well as fruit and vegetables.
Public transportation:
Being located in the heart of Bologna, this area is well served by public transport. Busses to the Fairgrounds, hospitals, train station or shuttle to the airport stop along Strada Maggiore, Piazza Aldrovandi or Via Santo Stefano.
Parking:
The apartment is within the restricted traffic area (ZTL) and an access-ticket is required. You may park in the street, on the places indicated with blue stripes, free of charge on Sundays and every night from 20:00 to 8:00; and upon payment (red parking meter) during the day. Another option is the private garage of Via San Petronio Vecchio 40/4, very close to the apt. Here you may also fill a form to get access to the restricted traffic area.
Pets:
Pets are allowed (€ 20+VAT per night, limited to the first 5 nights).
