About this house rental
Welcome to Kea Retreat, the perfect place to recharge and to explore the beautiful Nelson Lakes region.
Enjoy this fine, simple and well equipped 1 bedroom house situated close to St. Arnaud township, Lake Rotoiti and Rainbow Skifield. Watch the native birds from the large windows of the dining area, spot the Keas stripping the bark off the gumtrees, relax in the sauna or put your feet up on the hugest couch.
A small, but well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and also a BBQ outside will make you want to cook and enjoy your meals while overlooking the valley or sitting on the sunny deck.
You can enjoy some quality time far away from the hustle and bustle. A few games and puzzles as well as books are available to keep you entertained - but there is no TV.
The Wifi will keep you connected if you need to.
A few important things to note:
- Please bring your own duvet covers, sheets, towels, etc.
- Please clean the place after your stay for the next guests and follow the provided instructions to make the house ready for being without people when you leave.
- Please take all your rubbish and recycling with you.

Great place to recharge. We love coming and staying. Love the fire 🔥 love the area. We will be regulars now. This was our second stay at the Kea Retreat.

While the keas were in retreat when we visited, this small slice of paradise made for a beautiful restful escape after a frenetic 18 months. The area is beautiful, dawn from the windows as the birds awake is fulfilling and the house is warm and has everything you need, including a good 4G oneNZ signal throughout.
Is a magical space for a get away! Thoroughly recommend!

Lovely place to stay, a little out of town but within 3-5 minutes drive. Recommended.

A comfortable, well equipped home in a beautiful, private setting. The sun-rise was stunning as was listening to the owl at night. Would highly recommend for a peaceful getaway.

I loved the place, but I didn’t like that Bookabach failed to respond to my booking problem - that I found too late that by mistake I’d ended up with two places for the same dates. I prefer to deal directly with the owners in future and not use the company.

Other reviews said this cottage was better than expected and it is absolutely unbelievable how wonderful it is. The setting is perfect with beautiful views and the house itself is delightful, kitchen equipped superbly and a cooker I now desire in my own home. Bedroom, quiet and tastefully decorated. Excellent shower. I sat on the huge sofa every evening with my aperitif and just gazed out of the picture windows. I loved the reading materials and read through most. We spent seven days and loved every minute. We did excellent hikes and swam in the lake Rotoiti every day. I love this place.

We loved our stay, the property was very well thought out and had everything we needed for a few days peace and quiet. Great to be so close to beautiful Lake Rotoiti in St Arnaud. Check in etc was all very easy.

We had a great stay at Kea retreat. It has a great kitchen and lounge. We took lots of food as there is no market in St Arnard and enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. We took lots of firewood and were very cozy and warm. Well recommended as a place to stay

A lovely peaceful setting to stay.

The house has a more old-school "cabin in the mountains" feel, with the "glass-walls" feeling of the elevated dining extension in particular giving a real "living at the tree tops" feel. There's a great view down the valley and across to pine-clad mountains; it's only a few minutes drive from St Arnaud and Lake Rotoiti, just over an hour back down the road to Marlborough/Blenheim, and right in the middle of the very many things there are to do in Nelson Lakes.
A really great "head space" location; lots of trees, various native birds, quiet and private; ideal, really.

Perfect spot
House had everything we needed and is in a magic spot. Plenty of space to chill out, chickpeas in the kitchen (lots of staples you can use for koha), very comfortable bed, warm with heat pump and awesome log burner.

Very nice place tucked in the woods
We've stayed here once before. We thoroughly enjoyed it both times we've been here. The place has everything you'd need to live comfortably. We really like the layout of the place and the location near St Arnaud. We would definitely recommend it to others who like to have their own self-sufficient place. And we definitely will stay here again.

Beautiful well-equipped spot
This house is a dream vacation getaway with countless thoughtful touches. Very well-equipped space, especially the full kitchen. The location was great and we loved the sunrise view down the valley. We met the hosts and they were extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend and we would love to come back.

A peaceful stay with beautiful views
A well maintained, clean and tidy property. Surrounded by trees with wonderful birdlife, and an amazing view towards the east. Spacious layout, and we particularly loved the dinner table buildout. It had all the facilities/amenities we needed (great shower!), clear instructions for arrival and departure, only 5-10min drive from Lake Rotoiti. It was the perfect bach for a relaxed stay with access to great tracks!

Cute & Cosy Cottage
What a terrific place to stay for an awesome getaway surrounded by native bush and a spectacular view.
The cottage has everything you need - fireplace, heat pump, BBQ, sunny decks, outdoor fire pit, sauna, projector, movie screen, birdsong, funky couch, comfy bed, and a whole lot more.
Christine was excellent to deal with, and the property is very close to St Arnard & Nelson Lakes. We loved our stay over Christmas and will certainly return.

Highly recommend!
The house is bigger than the pictures and well maintained. It was warm and nicely decorated. Check in and out process was easy and straightforward. They have a projector, but you need to bring your own laptop to use it. Definitely coming back!
