About this cottage rental
Brown's Cottage is a handsome, 17th Century, three-story, terraced Cotswold stone townhouse that sits on Brown's Lane, a quiet road running down to the centre of the small market town of Charlbury. To the rear is a short path leading to a tall garden gate, through which is the cottage's secluded patio.
Conveniently located just a minute's walk from the centre of the village and ten minutes' walk from Charlbury train station (built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1853), the cottage is on a residential road, with a small leafy park to one side, free on-street parking and a well-stocked food store across the road.
Step through the front door and you'll instantly feel the warmth, history and style of the cottage. The owners have perfectly blended the gorgeous interior design, luxury furnishings and amenities with the cottage's historic features. Guests will instantly notice the nod to the owner's travels, with beautiful and interesting objet d'art throughout the cottage from the African continent. A spacious living room greets you, with the original inglenook fireplace and comfy armchairs to one end and a sofa and smart TV to the other. Head through into the delightful light and bright kitchen and dining area, with French doors to the patio. Upstairs are two spacious, king-size bedrooms, one ensuite, a single room and a luxury shower room.Ground Floor
Entrance Hall:
Step through the front door from Brown's Lane into the welcoming Living Room. (A thick curtain is thoughtfully provided to draw across the front door on winter evenings.)
The Living Room:
You will be immediately struck by the spacious yet cosy feel of this beautifully stylish room, with its exposed Cotswold stone wall at both ends and exposed timbers running the length of the room. To one end is the original inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove and two large armchairs, perfectly positioned to curl up by the fire and relax or read, while to the other end is a three-seater sofa, coffee table and custom-built dresser housing the smart TV, extra drinks glasses and lots of novels and travel books. The Living Room has sisal flooring, perfectly blending with the tone of the fabrics and Cotswold stone, which continues upstairs to the bedrooms.
The Kitchen-Dining Area:
From the Living Room pass through an oak door into the delightful Kitchen-Dining Area. The kitchen is fully equipped to serve every need for cooks and chefs staying at Browns, from the Blanco stone sink to the Smeg appliances and Neff oven. The polished stone floor is softened with a large seagrass mat, while plenty of wall and ceiling lighting make the white stone kitchen surfaces a light and bright cooking space.
Beside the kitchen is the dining area set in a gorgeous bright and light extension with a lantern roof and a huge wicker lampshade, making this a fantastic space for entertaining and dining. An antique, rectangular table comfortably seats five guests on three chairs and a bench seat running along the window, looking out to the patio. (Outdoor cushions can be found under the bench.) An attractive upcycled antique sideboard houses serving plates, bowls, jugs and tableware.
Utility Room:
At the far end of the Kitchen-Dining Area is a sliding oak door behind which is an Aladdin's Cave of appliances and household items, including the microwave, washing machine, dryer, ironing board, iron, clothes airer, and a large stone sink. A large window looks out from the Utility Room to the patio.
Study Area:
To one side of the Kitchen at the foot of the stairs, with the French windows opening to the patio, is a lovely space furnished with a beautiful antique desk and captain's chair and reading lamp. It's the perfect place to work or plan the day's activities and leave maps, and books, and charge up personal devices.First Floor
Wooden stairs with a runner and bannister lead up to three bedrooms and the family shower room
Bedroom 1 - Attic Master Bedroom:
At the top of the house (up two floors, in the converted attic), is the master bedroom with a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom. The sloping ceiling of this bedroom, with the black-iron, Victorian-style bedframe and sisal carpet creates the feeling of being on a luxury safari. The dual aspect views, to the front over the rooftops and to the rear over the patio, makes this is a light and bright bedroom. Furnished with bedside tables, reading lamps an antique dressing table, Lloyd Loom chair and a hanging rail, with a high windowsill adorned with beautiful decorative ornaments but leaving plenty of space for personal items too.
En-suite Bathroom:
To one end of the master bedroom, through a latched oak door, is the bathroom with full-size bath with hand shower, Burlington wash basin with mirror and lights, W.C., heated towel rail and a Velux window perfectly positioned so guests can relax in the bath and gaze up at the stars.
Bedroom 2:

Bedroom 3:
This single bedroom is furnished with a full-size, slightly raised, single bed, with a reading light and storage underneath, while a chest of drawers and hooks are provided to store and hang clothing. (The cupboard houses the boiler.) Note: bedroom 3 is a small room (3m x 1.69m), so may not be comfortable for tall or larger guests.

Lovely property! Enjoyed our stay! Great location in Charlbury, comfy beds. Great shower. Nicely decorated and perfect for us. We will be back!

We are a family of 5 and just stayed at Brown’s cottage. It is just as it appears in photos. Very clean, perfectly configured and beautifully decorated. It was fully equipped with comfortable beds and with all the elements we needed for the perfect stay. The cottage is conveniently situated in town. The property manager Deborah was excellent at communication and very accommodating. We would not hesitate to stay at Brown’s cottage again the next time we are in the area!

The house is pretty and the small town is lovely. A big mistake; You can’t put your legs under the dining table. I forgot my earrings. Called and texted the host, but never did I get a reply! In the garden behind the Bell you can relax and drink cocktails and eat pizza. A hidden gem.

A gorgeous cottage in the most amazing location - a stones throw from some lovely pubs. The cottage was clean, comfortable and the interiors were beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended the cottage to friends. We will be back one day! Thanks

We loved staying at Brown’s Cottage. It is a beautifully presented traditional cottage with modern conveniences - fast internet, Netflix, supermarket a few steps away. The only two things I would fix is to change the basin taps (having two confusing taps vs one - but at least they went into one mixer) and a better shower in the top bedroom (rather than a hand mixer over a bath). Otherwise it’s perfect.

Beautiful cosy cottage that has been thoughtfully decorated. Lovely comfy beds and tasteful country decor. Close to shops and Blenheim Palace.
Please note that the free parking is, however, slightly misleading, as there is street parking if you can find a space. It’s very tight and not particularly easy to come by. One small car was manageable.

The location, comfort, and feel of the cottage was everything we were hoping for. What a superb location as well, just a stones throw away from one of the Cotswolds’ best pubs, The Bull. Will be returning and would highly recommend!

Such a lovely comfortable property. Well equipped kitchen.
Just a shame that we booked for an early Christmas celebration with friends and dispite phoning up and being told the house would be decorated for Christmas to our disappointment it wasn’t!

Really enjoyed our stay at Brown’s cottage: it was well furnished and the beds were super comfy. The only downsides were the dryer did not work which was very challenging trying to dry washing and parking could be very hard, but I guess that is the nature of period cottages!

As soon as we arrived we realised we had picked the perfect place to stay to visit he Cotswolds. Unlike many places we have stayed in this cottage was better than the pictures on the website! It would be our dream little cottage to buy with a great number of pubs on the door step and a shop within walking distance. We did a few walks from the cottage and also drove a short way to his around Burford and the Upper and Lower Slaughters.
Inside the cottage it was well appointed although there is no toilet no the ground floor which would be our only gripe.

Brown’s Cottage is a beautifully restored, uniquely and comfortably furnished home in a lovely Cotswold Village close to many of our favorite footpaths and gardens. Everything you might need is walking distance including the Charlbury train station. Nearby street parking was not an issue for us. Favorite gardens of at least 6 visited were Kiftsgate and Bourton House Garden as well as some of the private garden tours open for charity on select days. The Bull Inn was enjoying a soft opening during our stay and was quite delicious for an evening meal option steps from the cottage.

Two friends and myself really enjoyed our stay at Browns Cottage. It is very comfortable and well appointed. Charlbury is a small, pretty Cotswolds town. We had a fabulous meal in the garden of the newly renovated Bull Inn which is a few steps away from the cottage.

Browns Cottage is a gorgeous and extremely well maintained home. It has beautiful interiors of interest and comfort. The location is excellent with amenities on your doorstep and the train station only 10 mins away.

Brown’s Cottage is the perfect retreat from London! The cottage is beautiful, clean, and so well-equipped. The village presents everything you need - a great pub, a cafe, a small grocery store, and a few really great walking paths. I’ve recommended the cottage over and over again to friends. It is simply the best!

Very clean comfortable cottage in a good position in centre of village. Owners thought of everything.

Lovely Cottage
Clean, welcoming, comfortable and great location for trips to Oxford and Blenheim. Couldn't have asked for more! Thank you.

Gorgeous and very well appointed cottage.
Brown’s Cottage is as lovely as it looks from the pictures, even more so in fact. The living areas are fantastic and we would love to come back in the winter time and light the fire! The two double bedrooms are great, with desk areas and wardrobe space and plenty of light. We were particularly impressed by the number of coat hangers available. There are some really great features in the property, such as the velux in the family bathroom, that make a real difference. The kitchen is well-appointed, and the utility area great. The only downside is the third bedroom, which really is only suitable for a child - something that is mentioned in the description, but which I had overlooked. The courtyard is a real sun trap, and would perhaps benefit from a few it’s of plants/flowers to brighten it up a bit. All in all though, a great property to which we would happily return. Next time though, I will be taking one of the double bedrooms!

Lovely long weekend at Browns Cottage
Just returned from a long weekend at Brown’s Cottage - this is our second time here - it was as lovely as last year. Very comfortable. Nice layout over 3 floors. Opposite a food store, a few steps from a lovely pub (The Bull Inn) and there’s a nice deli just down the road. Charlbury is a small village, it’s very pretty and it’s an easy drive to many other charming towns and villages

Fabulous stay would love to return.
We stayed at Browns cottage for three nights to attend the Nocturn concert at Blenheim Palace. The cottage is absolutely fabulous with beautiful interior design, every possible comfort and a delightful outside patio. Charlbury Village is quiet but well appointed for visiting other more well-known villages in the local area. An absolute bonus, almost opposite the cottage is a really well stocked co-op store with everything you might need for a self catering break. We wished we had booked for longer and hope to return.

Cotswold Perfection!
After an exciting Jubilee week in London, we came to the welcoming arms of Brown's Cottage. It was everything we imagined an English Countryside stay would be! The charming town of Charlbury was so very pleasant. The people we met were so welcoming! Needless to say, we did not want to leave this beautiful and well appointed cottage. We will dream of this vacation often! Thank you!

Lovely location
House was very relaxing and just what we needed. We loved the town and really easy access to local attractions, Oxford and even getting to London for a meeting was very simple.
Thanks so much

Very pleasant stay at Browns Cottage
The cottage was very cosy and homely. We thorough enjoyed our stay. Lovely fire, very good shower in family bath room and very comfortable beds.

Perfect weekend away
We knew that we liked the photos and the location of the house, but our stay this weekend far exceeded our expectations. The house is more spacious than the photos seem and it was spotlessly clean. The fittings are high quality and the spaces felt very homely. The only thing to be aware of is that the boiler is housed in the cupboard next to the bed in the single bedroom which creates some noise.

Girls weekend
Lovely cottage. Lovely location. Would return. Would be even better if the wIfi worked so you could watch tv.

Walking country
An attractively modernised cottage that was a good base for walks in the attractive Cotswold countryside around Charlbury. The weather was sunny and we were able to use the BBQ in the courtyard garden.

Lovely Cotswold Cottage
Browns cottage was very comfortable and spacious, well located near the centre of Charlbury and only a ten minute walk from the train station.
There was a great shower with lovely toiletries and the beds were comfortable,

Simply gorgeous
This is a beautiful cottage, well appointed, well located, exceptionally clean - simply amazing. The host is very accommodating, essentials in the fridge to settle us in, the decor is gorgeous, it is a good size, there are no downsides to this place. I am already thinking about the next trip.
