Build a beautiful resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest vacation rentals to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are steps from the beachfront. Bring the bikes because Buxton's unique shops, restaurants, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD vehicle - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and, if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor, and you'll have access to an outdoor shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Angelfish was perfect little house for our family. Very close to beach access and great views. House was spacious and beds were cozy.

This was an amazing place to stay. Walking distance to the beach and old lighthouse location. Rooms were clean and would definitely rent it again.

Cons:House was old and not well maintained. Very minimal furniture, kitchen supplies, stained towels and rags, Doors to the balconies would lock behind you even after unlocking them. We had to use tape to keep them from locking. Handles were also broke, water tabs were all backwards, floor coming from water damage by front balcony in kitchen, broke oven handle(called and never got back to us), smelled, mattress were all shot and very uncomfortable, roaches inside. When we tried to call the rental company they never returned our calls or messages. Called vacasa, and waited on the phone for 30 mins just to get transferred to someone else and wait another 30 mins. This was all while a toliet had over flowed and sewage was all over the the floor. Only to be told there was nothing that they could do till the next day. No mops or cleaning supplies to clean it up. No hose to rinse things off, so you have to carry everything to the outside shower and take multiple showers to rinse things off. One outside spicket didnt work, lights hanging off the walls by only wires. Then they charge a $25 fee plus shipping to send your left behind item's to you, which is cool. But, what they don't tell you is that they charge you that fee regardless if they find the item or NOT. Said it was a finder's fee. Poor company.
Pros of the house: great location to beach, inside storage room, ac worked good, hot water

We grew up visiting OBX (before it had that moniker). This was our first trip all together without our own kids and we enjoyed the simplicity of the cottage and the proximity to the beach. The house was clean, well appointed, relatively tight to the weather. We appreciated the air conditioning (we remember hot, hot summer days with none), the plentiful hot water, and spacious rooms. Glad for clean linens and fluffy towels. (We used to have to bring those too!)
We had a perfect late September beach experience.
Bring your own spices is the only advice I would offer!

This was a great house, with really close access to the beach. Any problems we had were addressed and fixed immediately.

Tried to reschedule trip, but was denied. We knew weather was going to be bad as did VRBO. Winds 50-60 mph, houses falling in into the sea, most restaurants not open or few employees, poor service. Will not book again or visit this area. We could not get off island due to closed hwy 12. VRBO customer service knew bad weather coming but would not reschedule. Drove 14 hours to be stuck indoors the whole time. Never again.

Great find
It was great to have towels and sheets provided (we didn’t realize that it wasn’t necessary the case due to the pandemic until we got to the next property!) but we wished that with such well equipped kitchen, most basic kitchen staples would be left such as pepper, salt, oil, sugar, coffee and coffee filters as is usually the case without compromising on hygiene.
Location and service were great, we enjoyed our stay.

Super clean. Are a few things that need attention. Wall in master bath needs to be painted. We thought the house was beachfront but is actually one street back. Was short walk to beach. Very comfortable, roomy house and quiet neighborhood. Really enjoyed our stay. First time at outer banks and will go back.

We had a great time staying at the Angelfish house in Buxton, NC. Would have been 5 stars but for the Beds were a bit soft. If you are a little person they would probably be perfect. and the Commodes were standard and we are use to the handicap ones. But everything else were great. I would definitely recommend this house to any of my friends and family. And any one else that needs a great place to stay. We were close to shops and stores for food and bait and just shopping. Thanks for the memories and looking forward to next year.
