About this house rental
This genteel old lady was built in 1842 and she has good bones! The house is in the middle of all that historic Nauvoo has to offer, with the added benefit of being across the street from Dollar General and Casey's pizza. As with most old houses, there is one bathroom which is clean and spacious and on the ground floor. All of the furnishings are new. There is a large and inviting living room with plenty of space to spread out. There are three bedrooms - one very large - that are all tastefully furnished and have new mattresses. The biggest bedroom can hold more sleepers if needed. The smallest bedroom (the 'Toblerone' room) is ideal for our littlest guests with its quirky shape and fort-like possibilities. There is an outside deck where you can watch life go by but perhaps not in the winter. There is a laundry room on the main floor. There are two parking spaces at the back. On a more sentimental note, there are some original Nauvoo temple stones incorporated into the building as door lintels and windowsills. A gentle reminder that there is no smoking, vaping, alcohol or drugs permitted. Please do not bring your pets. Please note that this is an old house. The stairs are steep and may not suit people who have stability issues and the bedrooms and single bathroom are not on the same floor.

Home is nicely kept. The only thing we didn't like was that the bedrooms are all upstairs. This is less than ideal for midnight bathroom visits up and down old squeaky stairs. They do have one downstairs bed option but the beds upstairs are much nicer. Also one bathroom is tough for 6 people but we knew what we were getting with an old house. There is a Caseys right across the street which is nice for a quick cup of coffee or breakfast sandwich. Nauvoo is a very quiet town. There is some neat history here if you are into old houses! The host was very responsive, overall nice place.

It was a beautiful property, clean, although the front deck could have been weeded. The weeds were growing through the deck. Apart from that, it was a beautiful house. It was clean and had everything needed to stay comfortably. Including a pack n play.

We had a wonderful stay very clean. The only issue it was a little warm down stairs especially when cooking in the kitchen. Upstairs was great with the window A/C in each room keeping us cool. Slept like a baby. So close to Nauvoo. Great time

We LOVED our stay in this pioneer home! The location of the home is so convenient to everything in Nauvoo. We loved being able to visit the sites and return for lunch and dinner. The home is large with plenty of comfortable beds and plenty of room. The best part of this home is that it was SO CLEAN and we’ll take care of. Made us feel right at home! We will try to stay here again if we return to the area.

Thank you for providing such a great place to stay! The house was exceptionally clean. The beds and bedrooms were comfortable and more than plenty for our family. Everything that we needed was provided for a comfortable and easy stay! It was nice to be in Nauvoo with only a few minutes drive to historic downtown. The Casey’s and Dollar General across the street were convenient. It was fun to learn about the history of the home. The house added to the wonderful experience we had in Nauvoo.

This property was clean and well maintained. It is across the street from groceries and gas, and close to other properties such as the Nauvoo temple. The stairs are historic and vintage, so you need to be careful on them. Suggest re-attaching the top of the stair rail for safety. It was loose.

I loved staying at this house. It was a historic house with really nice updates inside. The house was as described and it was very clean. I appreciated all the info the host supplied before we came. They gave eating info and where to buy groceries. The neighborhood felt safe and would stay here again.

Beautifully maintained. :)

Great location to visit Nauvoo, old house, but they have done some remodeling to compensate in a lot of the house. Excellent location within Nauvoo as well.

We were only in town for a couple of nights and had a uniquely fun experience in Nauvoo. Beds were firm, but not uncomfortable. Kitchen was sparsely stocked with pans but doable for a meal for 6. We were warned about the lack of grocery stores in Nauvoo and planned accordingly. Overall we enjoyed the quirkiness of multiple additions to a charming old house.

Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends. Plenty of space for our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. Felt like home away from home. Easy access to Dollar General and Casey’s and walking distance to the temple.

Kitchen was especially large and accessible. We cooked a few meals and were able to seat our family of seven. The beds were soft. It was just a few blocks from the main attractions and across the street from a gas station and dollar general for easy bonus snacks. Bathroom was also roomy. I did need earplugs one night because the master bed is right at the street window. The other two rooms were very quiet.

It was just like described in the ad…. Older home with many upgrades. Within walking distance of almost everything. Nice living room. We did fine with eight people and one bathroom. Just had to be courteous to others. Kitchen had everything we needed and the laundry area was a life saver!! The kids enjoyed going to the Dollar store for junk food and necessities!!

I was pleased with this renovated historic home. The bathroom was large and well stocked and the bedrooms were comfortable and clean. We loved having a livingroom and spacious kitchen with a large table for playing games. It also has a large laundry room. The property manager was easy to work with.
My only disappointment was the closet in the 2nd bedroom is very unfinished and dirty and it was not condusive to hanging clothes.
Also, there were some very nice mirrors but a full length mirror would be really helpful.

The location is great--this place is within walking distance of all of the major Nauvoo attractions.
The host was wonderful.
The house is well equipped with items that visitors might need like basic kitchen stuff and toiletries. The laundry room even had the thoughtful inclusion of laundry baskets.
The house felt very spacious for our family of seven and all of our luggage. We probably could have comfortably added two more people to our party.
And finally, the place is super cute, and if we ever find ourselves in Nauvoo again, we will check for availability here first.

Nicely furnished and decorated with new fixtures and appliances. 1800’s charm with modern convenience. Stayed for a week with family and enjoyed all the Nauvoo sights and history. Location is close to everything. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

This spacious house is set right along the main hwy running through town. It has so much character and is such a charming rental.
Old houses always have their issues due to their age, but with knowing that you can just settle in and make yourself at home for your stay.

This was perfect for us and our six kids. Loved our stay here and everything about Nauvoo.

We couldn't turn down the opportunity to stay in a truly historic home and even researched the original owner, Joseph Horne, Jr and learned about his life. I was afraid there wouldn't be enough beds, but there were plenty, with the Murphy bed downstairs and trundle bed upstairs. Our bed was so comfortable! The house was close to pizza, groceries, frozen yogurt and close enough to the Nauvoo temple that we walked down to it every evening at sunset.

We loved our stay. The outside looks a little tired/overgrown but the inside is so cozy and charming.
Everything is clean and well stocked. All the beds are comfortable and our family of 7 had plenty of room to spread. It was so nice to come home and unwind each day. The home is quite old so has some quirks but that adds to the charm of things.
It was nice to run across the street to Dollar general or the convenience store as needed. Grateful Marianna and Jenny gave us a heads up about shopping ahead of time. There’s truly no where in town to find fresh produce.
We would definitely stay here if ever were in town again.

Location was perfect for our family to visit Nauvoo! House was very clean and convenient. Would absolutely stay here again.

We were excited to stay at this cute house. It was clean when we arrived. However the bedroom windows were fixed open and there was a freeze in effect (below 30°) for the nights we would be there so we felt we needed to find other accommodations. The owners were responsive and sent someone to check on us. Unfortunately we had already left and we missed each other by about ten minutes. I can’t give a complete review because we didn’t complete our stay, but I appreciate the attention given.

Absolutely wonderful. The host went above and beyond to help us. Place was charming and immaculate!

Loved the charm of the 1840s building. Perfect for a stay when seeing old Nauvoo! Lots of room to hang out! Washer, dryer, full kitchen, living room, spacious bedrooms, and close to everything!! The only downside at all and we were able to juggle pretty well, was it only had one bathroom. Overall, loved the atmosphere and location! 😉💖👍

Thank you! We enjoyed our stay in Nauvoo.

This was a fairly nice, clean place with comfortable beds and close to all that we wanted to see, so I’m giving it 5 stars.
There were a few quirky things, like the faucets in the kitchen and the bathtub are plumbed wrong (hot is cold and cold is hot) and the carpet upstairs is just thrown over uneven floors. The dishwasher is not attached to anything, so it just tips over when you open it and start loading it.
I would have liked to have something other than a cast iron skillet to cook with. Our eggs tasted like whatever was cooked in it last (taco meat, I think) and it was so heavy. Also, a full length mirror would be nice and more seating in the living area. There are only enough seats for five people and we had six people.

Three of us stayed here for a long weekend getaway. Nice and clean.

We love visiting Nauvoo, and we loved staying in this house. It was a great house for what we needed. There is one part of the house that is a little unexpected. You have to go through one of the bedrooms to get to another bedroom. It wasn't an issue for us, just unexpected.

The home is spacious and comfortable.
The dishwasher is small and tips forward once it's loaded with dishes. Screwing it in should do the job. There's plenty of cookware but it would have been nice to see a few more pans, e.g. Teflon, instead of the single cast iron pan. Cleaning eggs from it becomes quite a chore. The shower knob slipped off a couple of times during use.

Super clean and the decor was perfect. The host of the property was so kind and helpful. We will definitely stay again.
My only feedback, it would be nice to have mirrors in the rooms since there is only one bathroom. It would make it easier for all to get ready. Also, WD40 on the bedroom doors, at 4 am the squeaking is loud for the other room.

It was fun staying in an historic home while visiting Nauvoo. There are little shops and convenience stores close by and it’s very close to the temple and historic places we wanted to see. The only thing we had a problem with was that the overhead light was out in the kitchen. We had to bring a lamp in from the front room. We also suggest having a chair or chairs in the bedrooms. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

I loved staying in an older historic home for my visit to Nauvoo. The house had everything we needed. A nice touch was having full size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided. We arrived at midnight, and the entry area was very dark. We were provided with clear directions on how to get in, but I was still holding my breath as I tried the lock on the back door, hoping this really was the right house. I'm sure they would have turned the porch light on for me had I mentioned my arrival time. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Nice comfortable period home. A good experience for us, as we wanted a taste of old Nauvoo. Very clean, well equipped. Great communication with the owner. The only hiccup was that to get to the 3rd bedroom you have to cross through another bedroom.

My family loved this house! It had lots of character and was so cool to stay in a home that had been a pioneer house. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was great and we loved the family room. Was in walking distance to Dollar General,, pizza at Casey’s and a cute restaurant. Would stay again.

Our host was wonderfully communicative and provided great advice and suggestions. The home was ready for our arrival with air conditioning running and a cool home greeted us on an otherwise hot and humid day.
We would definitely book this property again.
