Superb
This was the perfect location to experience the surf and the sound. We have never stayed anywhere for 2-weeks, so were concerned that if this wasn't a nice place we would be stuck. However, it far exceeded our expectations in many ways. Some shortfalls listed below though. We really enjoyed the evening sunsets from the upper deck, and the large property was a perfect place for our dog to run around. It is a very private spot, and the access to your own tiny beach on Pamlico Sound made it even better. Being able to walk down to the water and wade into the Sound for as far as 100-yards was really awesome. Kayaking the Sound was also great when it wasn't too windy. There are comfortable beds, a great laundry room, good linens, fairly nicely outfitted kitchen, great TV's, and the deck space was great for both sunrise and sunsets. Many refrigerators in rental houses are old and slow to make ice, this fridge was thankfully working great. The hot tub worked well, and was a nice spot to rest after a long day at the beach. COVID did a number on the local businesses, but those that were open were above average. We felt being in Frisco was a good spot between Hatteras and Buxton. If we come back to OBX, we will try to get this house again. Great trout fishing in the canal north of the property.
Ok, so here are some things that could be better. First of all, Vacasa sucks. Vacasa is the rental platform for this property. Their non-negotiable contract is horrible. I signed it 18-days before arrival, and yet they didn't send us the door codes on time. When I called them at 4:00 when we arrived, they said they never received the signed contract even though I had confirmation from them 18-days earlier that they had received it! Instead of reaching out to me for it, which they never did, I had to beg for the codes when I arrived. We spent over an hour back and forth with them and the local property management office to get the codes, and then the electronic door lock battery was dead! UGH! This had nothing to do with the property, just the property management. Of the 4 kayaks at the property, only 1 was useable but still needed repairs. I spent over an hour re-fitting seat-backs and carrier straps. The kitchen was well equipped, but they need a couple of new sauté/frying pans. The few they have are old, worn out and in disrepair. More than enough pots, pans and cutlery - wow! They could use a pitcher or two. In many rental houses, you might find basic spice racks - not here. You need to bring all of your own spices for cooking. There was some damage to the wood slats on the lower, ground level deck that caused a few stumbles. These need to be fixed. We've never been to the area, and were not prepared for the consistent high winds. Not a deal breaker, but something to be ready for when planning your trip. No way we could have used the 10x10 pop up canopy on the beach any day we were there due to the winds, and it also made it impossible a few days to paddle in the Sound.
