About this house rental
Wild Fauna is a large open plan modern house in beautiful surrounds and is a Stayzau 2024 Holiday Home of the year.. The spacious living, dining and kitchen area has all the room to spend your holiday with all the family. The expansive deck is the perfect place to spend summer evenings with the local wildlife, overlooking magnificent views and winter nights are cosy in front of the fire.
The kitchen is well equipped and has a large social island.
The space
Wild Fauna is a luxury eco-friendly getaway in Merrijig set in a peaceful and picturesque location. Kangaroos, deer and birdlife surround the house and the elusive wombats and emus can also be seen in the area.
This large stylish modern lodge has a spacious, open plan living area with large deck and fantastic views. Equipped for 10 it is perfect for families and friends.
There is a play room with a TV, DVD player, DVDs and games.
The laundry/mud room has an adjoining ski storage room providing plenty of space for all your gear and equipment and there is a secure bicycle storage area under the house.
A Nespresso coffee machine is available in the kitchen with a few pods provided. (please bring your own extra pods).
Merrijig’s close proximity to the popular Alpine ski resorts make this an ideal place to stay in winter for some of the best winter sports in Victoria; the entrance gate to Mt Buller and Mt Stirling is just 6 minutes away by car or there is a bus stop at the bottom of the road offering regular trips up to Mt Buller if you would prefer not to drive.
Spring, Summer and Autumn bring endless opportunities for hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horse riding and 4 wheel driving or just sit back and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the high country. The Delatite river runs along the Buller road at the bottom of the hill and provides picture perfect walks or paddling on the warm summer days. Lake Eildon has many access points and some are approximately 40 minutes away if you are bringing the boat for summer water sports.
Other things to note:
The nearest main supermarkets and petrol stations are in Mansfield so stock up when you pass through – Mansfield is about 20 mins away. The Merrijig Motor Inn has basic grocery supplies and the Mirimbah store and café, near the Mt Buller gate has 24hr petrol.
During the winter months you will most likely need wheel chains to access Mt Buller – these can be hired from the Mirimbah Store at the resort gate. If you have low profile tyres you will need to hire chains from the Merrijig Motor Inn.
There are also plenty of equipment hire stores in Mansfield. Our favourite, to avoid the crowds, is Sebel Ski and Equipment hire just 5 minutes away.
It’s easy being green!!
We are doing our best to provide natural, chemical free products in our home away from home, our linen is all cotton or linen (non synthetic), the cleaning products and soaps are free from nasties and we are using re-usables wherever we can. We have a compost bin to help reduce waste.

Location just as we expected with easy access to Mansfield and Mt Buller. Easy scenic walks for an older group of 6!! Had a fabulous lunch at the nearby Delatite Winery - a must.
Wildfauna was well appointed and warm with great views down the valley and we loved all the birds that visited us on the deck. Cooking at home was so convenient (once we worked out how to use the induction cooktop!).
Hope to go back one day.
PS we were forced to change and postpone our original booking and Tracy was was kind and accommodating. Thank you

Wild Fauna was just perfect for a getaway with extended family to celebrate a special birthday.
The property was extremely clean and well appointed, we could not have asked for anything better.
We enjoyed early mornings and evenings on the back deck, taking in the beautiful view and the friendly wild life.
We are already planning a return to take in the winter beauty.

We had an amazing stay at Wild Fauna. We were wowed on arrival at the gorgeous property and absolutely stunning views. It was our base for our day trips to Buller and a wonderful, warm home to come home too after a day on the slopes. Waking up to kangaroos and deer outside your windows and seeing them when you got home was amazing. The pics don't do this place justice. Tracey is a fabulous host, very accommodating and quick to reply too. We would definitely love to come back.

If the views don;t get you the open fire surely will! A beautifully-presented home - huge, warm, well furnished and lots of little touches to ensure your stay is a cosy one. We loved wildlife watching (saw an albino deer!) and relaxing by the fire. It's close to the gate to Mt Buller and Mt Stirling so very convenient and the mudroom came into its own after a day at the snow. The area is a little more built-up than we expected but once inside Wild Fauna you really feel you're "away from it all".

Our family had a wonderful stay at Wild Fauna. Traceys home is beautiful, light, clean and spacious with a gorgeous view across the valley. Lovely outdoor areas and warm interiors made the perfect stay for our family. We were so surprised with the amount of wildlife that roamed past the property, and although there was no snow this weekend, it was lovely to relax, walk, and visit the wineries. The bottle of wine left for us by the hosts was very nice! We will definitely be back.
