It is a cozy house with a wonderful staff. Sr. Robert, the manager, is a super nice guy with everyone, always trying to help us, offering a great breakfast, the whole house every day super clean. The room is super comfortable, with two big beds, a TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, a microwave, and a fridge.
Good location, near to bus points, near to Biodome, Botanical Garden and Stadium of Montreal FC.
I really recommend staying at Maison Montplaisir with Robert.
3.0 / 10.0
- Not far from the Espace pour la vie complex and a couple of nice boulangeries
- Sufficient unrestricted parking spaces nearby
- Friendly owner
- When the property states breakfast is included, it is understood that breakfast is ready during certain hours, not that you can cook it yourself with the products provided. We didn't have time for that and had to find another place to eat.
- This brings me to the next point: if other visitors can cook, smells travel...
- The dining area is small and only has one table for 5-6 people. If another family is there, you simply have no space to eat.
- The child's bed wasn't ready when we came after 10 pm, even though we mentioned that we might come earlier. My daughter was exhausted but she had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes to lay down, of which the manager kept talking incessantly about how cool the TV is in the room and that it's got cartoons. Come on, we were visibly tired, and we only came for one night, we couldn't care less about the TV!
- The child's bed was a mattress that deflated in the middle of the night! It's in the picture. We did NOT deflate it, and this is how it was after a couple of hours.
- The master bed's mattress and pillows are OVERLY soft, as if they haven't been changed in over 30 years, absolutely impossible to sleep comfortably.
- The A/C was making much noise and not really helping with the temperature. Thankfully, it wasn't hot.
- The shower door was broken and kinda fixed, but it still leaked.
- Cramped room, very little space, even without a child's "bed" mattress on the floor.
- Windows looking onto a deck - beware of strangers looking into the room!
- Toilet flushing as noisy as a supersonic airplane.
- Scotch tape on windows to avoid leaks - an easy fix, but looks so bad.
As for the price - we've stayed in 5-star hotels for less. One would expect better conditions at a place charging $170 a night, providing the services not event $30 worth.

Robert the Manager, is most helpful. He is keen to make everyone's stay as comfortable as possible and does his best to improve standards. We were upset by people smoking and he is doing what he can to prevent this selfish behaviour. It is near Ontario Street where there are a number of good restaurants and cafes.
The mattress and pillows are just foam so not particularly comfortable.

The breakfast was ample and good but you have to cook it yourself and wash your dishes unlike most b&bs. Bed was comfy and large. Large tv many channels.
Unsafe area. I went out to find a store and got chased by a crazy woman. Not many stores around. The coffee in the morning was musty tasting probably coffee pot needs cleaning. The place could've been cleaner. The shower curtain in My room looked dirty. The room stunk of cleaning products. I have allergies. My room was off the living room and tv was On till very late and not many people watching it. Owner started cleaning fridge late at night. It seemed like a rooming house as a family was living there. No other guests. I wouldn't stay again.

The gentlemen at the property was very helpful
There was no pillows other than the decorative once.
There was no cover on the bed blanket, I was under the impression I’ve selected a hotel and I got bed and breakfast.
They asked me to cook my own break feast and clean up the dishes.
Needless to say that was the worst stay ever for me. They claim to have free parking, but they have none, I had to park on the street.
I was asked to tip the cleaning staff, I still don’t understand for what?

The owner is zealous and accommodating, location is awesome, reasonable price, and I love the TV in my room.
It would be better to have sound isolation in each room.

The house was pleasant to stay. There was enough space for a big family with 4 adults and 2 kids. The host was very friendly and helpful. I also liked the location. It is very near to Biodome and is in downtown area. We were very happy to stay here. I also liked the fact that we had lot of options for breakfast, and we can cook in kitchen in morning and prepare breakfast as per our needs.
The House was good, but there was construction going on, and the wall was broken, so we smell smoke in the bathroom, Being non-smokers, the smoke smell suffocates us. Also I didn't like about the parking in streets as there was not much space, may be because of downtown area.

Robert is extremely helpful and friendly . Very attentative . V good location about 2 miles from old town with bus stop 2 mins away and pie 9 metro a 10 min walk . Big room . Nice breakfast selection of cereals toast, eggs , cafe , tea etc . Overall very good value for 2 nights . Thanks.
Good tv and options but I would suggest a basic step by step , guest TV operation guide is written as Netflix did not work ...tv settings disrupted by a previous guest . With " DO NOT DO / TOUCH ....... " ... this would help keep settings in position etc . Needs blackout curtains as an awful lot of light enters room through existing thin ones .

The mattress was comfortable, with one set of pillows being a little too firm. Our room had 2 beds and I found a pillow on there that was a bit softer. The TV was big and bright with lots of programming to offer. Location was convenient for our purposes. That's where the "Like" ends...
OWNER'S RESPONSE TO REVIEW IS MORE LIES!! Not a clean place by any means. Heavy odor of cigarette smoke throughout the home, lesser so in BR but still quite detectable. Coverlet and pillow shams were a bit grubby. Lots of grime on floors in corners. Glass top on nightstand very smeary, AC unit not installed very securely in window. Asked to wear slippers inside of house which is fine except that slippers were obviously worn by many others and were dirty-looking. Breakfast was not very good quality (muffins dry, cheap cereals, only one pot of coffee with no extra coffee beans or grounds). Eggs were provided to cook but had lost my appetite by then. Access to deck seemed blocked by another portable AC unit. A fair bit of garbage could be seen (through very dirty windows) on deck. Was promised a private bathroom (next door to our room) but other guests used it as well (perhaps because theirs was lacking in who-knows-what?). Bathroom was disgusting - no toilet paper, towels were poor quality and rough, some strange reno happening in corner of bathroom by toilet that looked like someone had applied plaster with their hands and then taped plastic over the top portion of wall. Manager stated that they had just spent $5000 on renos - not sure where? Surfaces in bathroom NOT clean, nor were any surfaces in rest of home. Manager asked us to leave a tip for cleaning staff because they're "university students". Either he's not paying them enough to clean properly or there is no cleaning done at all. Regardless, guests should not be asked to tip such poor quality upkeep. We wound up only staying one night out of 4. Should have asked for a refund but getting the impression from other reviewers with same experience that manager and/or owner would simply dismiss our assessment as "Fake review" (very Trump-like response) or insist that everything is cleaned and disinfected daily, which is simply not true.

The arrangements were very good. The room was big enough. The location is amazing and so is the host/manager Robert. The breakfast arrangements are pretty good. It's DIY breakfast..but works pretty well.
The air conditioner in our room, ie room no. 1 was pretty ineffective. That surely needs to be fixed

Parking is easy, one block down the street by the school, except Wednesday morning. Free,
Bathroom is not in the room. Air conditioner is not installed yet.

The fact that we had access to a kitchen & were able to make tea & sit around the table and talk just as if we were at home.

The gentleman running the place Rob was very eccentric and warm. He was very welcoming and made me smile, I always think the people make the place and he did. After a 5 minute walk there are plenty of places to sit and drink and great variety too. The room was very large and comfortable and I do love places that provide Netflix.
The parking was a couple minutes walk away which was a little annoying.

Late check in was possible
Dirty room, hair on sheets, broken shower head in bathroom. Had to spend the night so I didn't make a fuss but it wasn't clean
4.0 / 10.0
Robert was friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic. The Wi-Fi worked well, parked the car a block away, common areas were clean and functional. location close to Hochelaga District. We felt safe.
Apparently Robert thinks it’s ok to smoke in his apartment. i normally wouldn’t care but it creates a stale cigarette smell which permeates the entire first floor. I suppose the second floor may be free from this. ironically the property is posted as a non-smoking property. My wife needed a hair dryer which apparently Robert had however he wasn’t home when she needed it - perhaps only 1 hair dryer per hotel? The nightly rate was pretty low so I guess you get what you pay for…
