A perfect friend’s gathering for a week of celebration! The house was exactly as described online. The kitchen was stocked well with appliances and cooking tools! Bedrooms were all a great size and beds were comfy! We had no issues with the water. Loved the deck and enjoyed sitting on the deck on top of the dune! Perfect walk to the beach with gorgeous views of the beach!!! We will stay again!

The house itself was very spacious and accommodating! The location was great, as it was right on the beach, just a very short walk over the dunes. It was so nice have our own pool right on the property. The downfall of the house is that it wasn’t very well cleaned. We arrived to a dishwasher full of the past guests dishes, along with the washer and dryer full of the past guests towels. The house was pretty dirty overall- bugs squished on the walls, couches caked with filth under the cushions, fridge dirty, etc. At the end of our stay we were instructed to remove the sheets from our beds and place by the washer but not the blanket or pillow shams, which to me implies they do not get washed regularly between guests. Just not what you expect when paying this kind of price. There was also very low water pressure, as only one person could shower at a time (although there was 6 showers). And at times there wasn’t enough water pressure to use any of the sinks or wash laundry. This could just be from being in the location it is though. Overall would rent there again if the cleaning was stepped up a notch! Owners were very pleasant and easy to communicate with.

We recently stayed at this beach rental and were excited about its prime location, which is undoubtedly its best feature. However, our experience was marred by several significant issues.
First and foremost, the water system had severe rust issues, which we discovered when our laundry came out stained with an orange hue. This problem extended beyond just the washing machine; even our swimwear was affected after being worn in the pool. The owner did send maintenance to address the issue promptly and provided a partial refund for the ruined items, which we appreciated. However, the compensation was minimal, and the owner’s dismissive attitude and lack of empathy left a sour taste.
The owner suggested that sunscreen interacting with the water was the cause, which implies future renters should avoid using sunscreen to prevent damage—an impractical expectation at a beach property.
Additionally, we encountered several other issues:
The cleanliness of the floors was questionable, leaving our bare feet dirty.
About half of the outlets did not work.
A light fixture was hanging from the ceiling in one bathroom.
While we managed to overlook these problems and enjoy the beach, the overall experience with the property and more so the host was disappointing.
I would advise future renters to be cautious, especially with laundry and swimwear. In other reviews, cleanliness seems to be a problem so perhaps a new cleaning company should be utilized.

This was our second visit to this property. It was perfect for our family and the home is more than adequately stocked with kitchen needs and linens. Highly recommend!

We came on an extended family vacation (infant, parents, cousins, grandparents). The house had everything we needed, aside from some kitchen basics (salt, pepper, oil) but we were able to easily purchase those at the food lion. We had plenty of space for everyone. The beds were comfortable and the view was amazing.
It was a short drive up the beach and the beach parking was always available close to the house. The parking passes made it very convenient to bring our gear back and forth to the beach. On the choppier/windier days, lounging by the pool was perfect.
As we only had 1 4x4 vehicle, it made for a few trips up and down the beach. I would highly recommend a thorough shopping trip on the way in!
We will definitely be staying again!

There is plenty of room in this house for several families to have a fantastic week. We drove onto the beach in the morning and set up tents but we could easily walk back and forth over the dunes throughout the day for potty breaks or lunch. The pool was perfect. We loved the hot tub. We ran into a few small things but the property manager was very quick to respond and remedy anything that came up! Definitely recommend!

This was our first time to stay on the 4x4 beach. It was an amazing place and the house was perfect for our needs. There were a few little things in that there were items left by the previous clients, dirty beach towel, empty boxes in the hallway downstairs, and items left in the refrigerators. These were all very minor issues and overall, the house was extremely comfortable and worked very well for our family. We had 13 people with 7 children aged 2 months to 14 years old and there was plenty of space for everyone. The house offers incredible views and the lookout spot on the dune was perfect for family photos. The owner did an exceptional job of getting back with me quickly when we had questions. They seem to be freshening up everything on site and it shows. I would highly recommend this property and this owner. Thanks for a great vacation!

Property was great, location was great and the company was great! Enjoyed the beach, pool and hot tub everyday! We got to see horses, dolphins, starfish and StarLink!! Bonus sighting!!!
6.0 / 10.0
The property was amazing, and we saw horses every day. We watched the sun rise every morning from our bedroom balcony. The pool was very clean and comfortable. The host was great to deal with, very communicative, and she resolved a few issues we had with the iron in the water. She went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied.
We did not read the listing as carefully as we should have, and found that several amenities were lacking (kitchen towels, trash bags, paper towels). Bring your own frying pans, spices, dish detergent (including dishwasher), and a towel or mat for drying. Otherwise, the kitchen was exceptionally well stocked.
The beach was very nice, but heed the warnings about 4-wheel drive, and make sure to air down your tires as suggested. The drive in (on the beach) was soft-packed and difficult to traverse, especially at high tide, or after dark. We saw several people get stuck. This limited our willingness and ability to go into town.
We had a wonderful vacation at Salted Dunes!

Great location, house was perfect for large families to stay together. A little disappointed in the cleanliness upon arrival, notified the owner, felt like she was more defensive than considerate regarding us making her aware. We did see horses every day we were there, on the beach, as well as around our property. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and would go back.

The house and the location was just as described. The house was spacious and very homey. We had never stayed in the 4x4 area before and the experience will be talked about forever. We had a small wedding on the beach and it was beautiful. So thankful for memories made at the Salted Dunes OBX. I recommend this home to everyone who wants to have a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the solitude of salt air and sands in your toes.

Our large family had a wonderful time staying here. There was plenty of room, the beautiful home was very clean and it is the best location with sightings daily of the beautiful wild horses and dolphins. Marissa is a very courteous responsive host and we are definitely visiting again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this property! The views were incredible and we saw many beautiful sunrises and sunsets throughout the week. The whole experience and ambiance of the beach was so different than what we’re used to, in a good way. Although it was not difficult to reach the property, there were extra steps involved which took the pressure off of us filling our days with “plans” for the kids. Instead, we let them play in the gentle, kid friendly surf all week and experience nature up close. We saw wild horses from the porch twice, and actually got to witness a sea turtle nest hatching on the beach which is a memory we won’t soon forget!!
The house was clean and perfect for our needs. It’s a beach house off the beaten path, so I didn’t expect everything to be brand new or sparkling clean, but I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the property. I’m not sure how anyone could have described it as being very dirty. It was clean and it’s very clear that someone loves and cares for this house. The kitchen was fully stocked, there were plenty of beach chairs for our group, and there was even a high chair for the little ones. The bedroom set up worked great for us - with so many options, we each found a room that worked for our needs.
It is about a 15-20 minute drive up the beach once you hit the 4x4 area. We brought an air down tool and a pressure gauge and had no problems with our 4WD vehicles, although I did white knuckle the steering wheel a couple of times (first time beach driver!) We had a medical emergency during our trip and had to drive to the hospital over an hour away, then be transported by ambulance another 2 hours for treatment. Just something to keep in mind if you have a medical condition, but that is going to be the case anywhere remote. Make sure you’re prepared for everything a 4x4 beach vacation entails, and enjoy the trip.
With that being said, the owner of this property is literally the most responsive owner I have ever encountered- she was very helpful and always SO quick to respond. We had many questions and she provided great recommendations. We would absolutely stay here again and would rent any other property she was managing. Five stars from our group - thank you for the hospitality!

Great stay for extended family getaway. Plenty of room for 8 adults, 5 kids. House was clean and updated. It was very nice not to have to bring our own linens. Having the pool was a huge plus. Multiple horse sightings during our stay. Unbelievable location and easy access to beach, couldn’t get closer if we tried! We really loved being on the 4x4 beach while still having quick access to Corolla and Duck.

The house, pool, and property were as described and as expected. However, the cleaning service was subpar. E.G., one of the bathtub/shower drain was clogged with hair and all the towels had an bad odor. The renter should not have to deal with these things, but we did take care of them.
6.0 / 10.0
Unfortunately, the house was dirty! The dishes, utensils, pans, etc. and their drawers were very dirty with dried food. The kitchen pantry was unusable due to the grime on the shelves and dirt on the floor. Under the couch was disgusting and the couches and chairs were too dirty to sit on (dirt, stains, trash and crumbs!). Some of the walls had cobwebs and tape on them. Shower curtains moldy. One dryer doesn't work. A TV in one of the bedrooms didn't work. The host was not informed of the dryer or TV - we didn't want to deal with having repair people there. They circuit breaker trips often. I have forwarded the host pictures and mentioned the safety of the wooden stairs (one board breaking). Hopefully for future guest this is resolved. The bathrooms were clean (except some curtains) The pool was fantastic! Be careful of nails sticking up on the pool deck though! We saw horses many times and the beach was great! We did have a fantastic family vacation! Please note a 4 wheel drive vehicle is a MUST!

Disappointed
We arrived alittle early and went to beach at beach owner said we were early I told her traffic was quicker than anticipating. We stayed on beach until 4 . We finally entered home to sand and dirt on floors bathrooms had mold on shower curtains and mold in corners of bathtubs. We we’re getting ready to make dinner and found dried food on plates and pans .The views were beautiful but the posts in railings were loose and could be pushed by my 2 year old twins in many spots Nails were sticking and very dangerous for all of us. These things might not be major except the railings but the amount of money I paid was not small and definitely not worth it , Owner answered our concerns but not satisfied for the money paid. Very disappointed I lost both of my parents within a 3 month span of time and something special to celebrate their lives with my family.😢

Pristine OBX Beach Trip
This is not your normal beach rental experience. If you want to get away and enjoy the beach with no hotels, condos, crowds, etc. then this is a great location. We saw groups of wild horses throughout the week and they even came under the rental house one afternoon to check things out. Pods of dolphins swam back and forth about 100 yards out around 10am every morning. The house is well stocked and the large kitchen and dining table are perfect for large groups. The kids enjoyed the pool on hot afternoons. We rent homes every summer and everyone agreed this was our favorite beach vacation ever. The town of Corolla is nearby (15 min drive) and shopping, dining, activities are available if you need an occasional break from the beach.

Great Vacation
This was our first trip to the outer banks and we loved it! I underestimated the 4x4 beach and was quite intimidated at first. Driving at low tide is much easier and 4x4 is absolutely necessary. The house was clean and well represented overall. The kitchen did not have any spices, something I wish we knew because getting to the store is not quick and easy. Also, there were no kids toys so we had to go buy a few things to get through the week. Marissa is incredible and very receptive. We loved the beach, the horses, the weather. We had a great time and hope to return to the OBX in the future!

Family Vacation in OBX
Our family had an amazing vacation at Salted Dunes! The location was incredible, right on the beach with views of the ocean from every room. The beach was beautiful! We loved having the pool, definitely a huge plus on hot summer days. The kitchen was awesome for our family as well, we enjoyed home cooked meals every night! We had a great time watching the wild horses up close, truly an amazing experience. Also, having laundry was a huge plus. Overall, this property could not be beat and we are so grateful to have enjoyed such an amazing family getaway!

Amazing!
Great from start to finish. Carova beach is less crowded and quiet, yet still accessible to shopping, food, and Currituck Lighthouse. The wild horses are everywhere (don’t feed them, but enjoy their calm and beauty from a distance).
The house is spacious with an amazing view. It was everything we needed for a relaxing getaway!
5.0 / 10.0
This was our first time visiting the Outer Banks and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes of every kind, cookware, and gadgets. Most every room had a beautiful ocean view. The decks offered ample seating and refreshing breezes. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch. The bedroom layout was great. It allowed for privacy and a bit of separation which worked well when the kids wanted to stay up late and parents wanted to turn in early. We really appreciated the washers and dryers because being able to do laundry allowed us to pack light. We used Canary Drive to access the house which we found to be a bit easier than the way our GPS tried to take us. We saw the wild horses several times all around the house which was an amazing experience. We were a bit concerned about how our SUV would do on the beach. We have a 2019 Dodge Durango with full time 4WD. It did fine driving in the sand but our ground clearance was less than we would have liked which made driving during high tide a bit more challenging. For reference we have 5 inch clearance to the air dam. The host, Marissa, was lovely to work with and very quick to respond.

Property was exactly as pictured! Horses hung out in the yard, driveway and carports every day! Property was in the perfect location and Laura and Jim were great. Thanks for a great time and sharing your beautiful home with us. The McCrackens

Ocean, beach and horses! Oh my!
We are a three generation family, who enjoy a yearly vacation together, this was the ideal home for us. The kitchen was well stocked, with everything we needed to fix large meals, the bedroom setups worked perfectly for us, the game room offered entertainment and the pool was convenient, clean and relaxing. Not to mention the incredible experience of watching the magnificent wild horses who walk passed the property every day.
We had so many concerns prior to arriving concerning covid 19 and necessary restrictions, precautions etc. not to mention a hurricane threat. Property manager Laura with Carova cottages, was GREAT in supplying all the necessary info and support we needed. Throughout our stay she was a phone call away.
We would definitely recommend renting this beautiful home to anyone who would feel comfortable being beachfront, with lots of privacy, in a natural setting, surrounded by remarkable wildlife.

Reviewer Comments:
It was exactly what we were looking for! The house was very clean, well stocked with kitchen utensils, beach chairs, etc. You have to drive roughly a half an hour on the beach to get to the house which is an adventure all it's own. I highly recommend this house! We saw wild horses walking around right below the deck, a coyote at night, sea turtles, and tons of dolphins. The pool could've used a twice a week cleaning instead of just once but overall a great stay!
