This hotel has an amazing outlook with many vantage points. The rooms, service, food and drinks were as expected from this level of hotel. We had two restaurant breakfast options included in our booking. One is more fine dining. What I liked most was the outdoor saltwater pool, right at the foot of the hotel at sea level. But there are many little areas, some more secluded, where you can sun and relax on a day bed. Although the food at the hotel is excellent, we often had dinner in Funchal old town. We used Bolt to get into town (4e) and then a taxi back. (8e).
We also had a pleasant surprise. On my wife's Birthday, we found a chocolate cake and a bottle of sparkling wine in our room. It was a wonderful touch.
The food in the bar area was not to the same standard as the hotel restaurants and should be improved.

Accommodation and facilities are amazing and in a beautiful setting. Nothing was too much for the staff, who were all really friendly. Excellent restaurants and staff were aware of my husband's many food allergies, which were very well catered for without having to remind them. We're definitely going back ❤️

Formidabel gepassioneerd personeel, zeer betrokken bij hun taken. Deze mensen mogen zeer zeker gekoesterd worden door de directie. die zo bijzonder betrokken zijn bij hun gasten. Het zijn de finishing touch van dit hemelse verblijfsoord, die het verblijf als gast zeer aangenaam maken. UN GRAND MERCI, is hier zéker op zijn plaats!
Helaas is de eindrekening niet erg duidelijk. Moet duidelijker gedifferentieerd worden. Controle is hierdoor onmogelijk, waardoor er discussie kan ontstaan. Dit moet echt voorkomen worden, want dit kan een smet vormen op een prettig verblijf. Ook kamernummers op de rekeningen dienen correct te zijn. Het kan echt niet, dat je een rekening van een andere kamer moet gaan betalen. Onderteken GEEN rekening, als het kamernummer niet klopt!

Die Anlage bietet alles was man sich wünscht: 4 Restaurants (exzellentes Essen!), Spa, Gym, Bar (tolle Auswahl Cocktails) verschiedene Pools inkl Whirlpools. (Innen und außen). Extrem freundliches Personal. Gratis Parkplätze. Tolle Lage an der Klippe und trotzdem Zugang zum Meer (inkl. Aufsicht). Gehweite nach Funchal Stadt. Extrem schöne und sehr gepflegtes Areal/ Park. Alles barrierefrei! Einfach top!!!

The Hotel and staff were excellent and very friendly, a bit limited for children's activities but they enjoyed it, it is a more grown ups hotel. It was also close to the main town.

The location was absolutely gorgeous. The common areas including terraces, pool and seaside were extremely well kept and decorated. The hotel hosts group bookings, and yet didn’t feel crowded. The rooms are tidied up multiple times a day and kept always very clean. The tennis court was well kept. We highly appreciated the thoughtfulness of the staff in noticing I was there for my birthday and sending a celebration gift.
The close-and-lock doors make a dreadful noise on the hallway, which is not up to 5 star standard. Breakfast coffee was well below peer rated hotels, only serving essentially vending machine coffee. The photos for the type of rooms on booking are innacurate - side sea rooms are not as well lit and do not have the scenic ceiling to floor windows.

The facilities were really good especially the pools.
Staff were all so friendly and always helpful.
Location was good for getting out and about.
We had the garden view and it was nice waking up to the birds singing.

The Porto Bay is a beautiful hotel in a great location. The views of the ocean are amazing. The restaurants are excellent and service is great. I didnt like that a king bed is really two beds together and that can be uncomfortable.
The staff was extremely friendly and we took couple of the tours to visit Madeira. The island is primarily a nature island for hiking and breathtaking views. The island is extremely safe, well organized, excellent food.
We had dinner at the michelin restaurant of the hotel and it was ok compared to other Michelin restaurants. It was a bit slow, the experience can be better. Overall, other michelin in Portugal are better overall experience.

Very good cosmetic treatment at the SPA
Espresso at main breakfast room should be upgrade . But we had nespresso machine in the room so we drink coffee in the room before breakfast 😉

beautiful hotel in a lovely position by the sea, staff very friendly, really good quality breakfast with plenty of choices and good service
you wouldn’t use this hotel if you were expecting entertainment in the evening other than light music during cocktail hour or a violin etc, no dancing.
bathroom comfortable but the style a little old fashioned
on checking out we felt uncomfortable when we were asked if we wanted to leave any tips for staff, this should be given discreetly to individual members of staff as we did
