About this house rental
If a treetop lakeside getaway could cocoon you in its embrace so snuggly that you never wanted to return to the real world, then The Lodge at Star Lake would be a top contender! This sprawling four bedroom, 2 ½ bath, kid- and dog-friendly hilltop villa will appeal to those seeking a camp cabin/hunting lodge/woodsy retreat vibe for large family/close friends’ gatherings.
Are you seeking simple style, clean lines, and minimalistic décor? Then book elsewhere! If Adirondack backwoods charm and mid-century country chic had a baby, this would be it. Renovated bathrooms and kitchen add modern conveniences and luxury touches, while vintage treasures, collectibles, statement pieces, and flea-market finds evoke a frontier atmosphere.
21st century amenities include indoor plumbing, electric lights, large capacity washer and dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, 2 types of coffeemakers, and multiple ceiling and floor fans throughout (no AC available). Enjoy your morning coffee (or tea) from the back deck overlooking our quiet cove on Star Lake.
Venture down the staircase for a floating dock experience as the wooden raft is gently rocked by waves lapping the shore. Maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of Mama and her ducklings. Be the captain of your own ship by renting the motorized wooden raft and taking your crew on an exploration of greater Star Lake – including the fabled Sand Bar. (Extra fee for raft and must have boaters’ safety course or boating license. Liability waiver required.) Kayaks, a canoe, paddles, and life preserves are provided for no additional charge.
Back inside, the Lodge Room features a vaulted beamed ceiling with log cabin walls, an epic rock fireplace (guests are asked to look but not light), a live edge bar top with beverage fridge, and a wraparound sofa begging to be sunk into. If you suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out), you will be torn between watching the flat screen smart TV, bolting out the front or back French doors leading to their respective decks, or twisting around to see what everyone is laughing about at the impossibly shiny (i.e. safe from spills) knotty pine farmhouse dining table.
Throughout the day any number of indoor or outdoor spaces will claim your attention. Catch stunning sunsets on the back deck as the water mirrors trees and sky. The spacious front deck abounds with comfortable conversational seating and cushioned dining plus a chef’s gas grill. Watch the children running and laughing on the lawn or challenge someone to a rousing game of corn hole. The adjacent sunken covered front porch offers a respite on hot summer afternoons. It’s also the perfect place to wait out a storm while raindrops pebble the metal roof. With fieldstone walls and lush foliage, it harkens to a secret garden. After dark, light up the firepit and break out the marshmallows.
Need some quiet time away from the boisterous joy? The Library offers a refuge nestled between the Sunroom and the Kitchen. Grab a book or flip through the smart TV channels with an ear cocked for murmurs from the crowd indicating it is time to rejoin the fun. Need even more solitude to work? Slip into the Sunroom beyond the Library and ease the door shut. Try to concentrate while drinking in the endless lake views through the wall of windows as you reluctantly pull up to the vintage desk whose top is exactly level with the windowsill…. With a daybed and sleeper sofa, the Sunroom is also perfect as extra sleeping quarters. Exhausted after a full day? Charm and comfort extend to the sleeping spaces.
The cozy downstairs main bedroom features a spa-like ensuite bathroom and picture window for one last glimpse of the lake before you sink into the king size bed. Three upstairs bedrooms (two twin beds, double bed, queen bed), each with their own unique rustic décor, share a bathroom with a double sink and tub/shower combination. With bathroom space always in demand, the downstairs Powder Room is more than just an afterthought. Even this most lowly of spaces (with the tiniest sink you ever will see) is elevated by landscape watercolors festooning nearly every inch of wall space.
We cherish the memories of times here with family and friends, and eagerly look forward to our next retreat. We know you will too. Book today at our Adirondack rustic hideaway.
GOOD to KNOW
You really are getting away from it all in the tiny Hamlet of Star Lake – so pack in your food (and a bag of ice or two) before you come! Store your provisions in the Laundry Room/Pantry, which also boasts another refrigerator. There's even an extra freezer in case you want to ditch the cooking duties and just take it easy by nuking a frozen dinner.
Forgot something? You can grab a few groceries at Dollar General or Circle K Convenience Store/Gas Station. Dining out options are limited: One restaurant, one sub shop, one ice cream parlor. Happily, Circle K makes a wicked hot pizza. The town also boasts a hospital, a hardware store and a few nearby gift shop/antique/thrift-type stores.
No public motorized boat launch (ask the owners about their cottages on Little Wolf Lake 40 minutes away in the town of Tupper Lake).
Bed linens and bath towels are provided. Bring your own beach towels (please don’t use the provided house towels at the lake please).
The house is stocked with starter amounts with toilet paper, garbage bags, paper towels, handwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets, clothes washing machine detergent, liquid hand soap, etc. There is one hair dryer (upstairs bathroom). Complimentary firewood is stacked near the firepit and matches are provided.
Board games and playing cards are available. Small lending library (take-a-book/leave-a-book encouraged if you get too engrossed in a story and need to carry it home).
Up to two (2) pet dogs welcome. 50 pounds or less; $100 per dog/per week fee.
Any overnight guests above the maximum of 10 will incur an additional $100 charge per person/per day.
Parking pad fits four or five vehicles comfortably.
90 feet of private lakeshore frontage; dock and floating raft with table, chairs, and umbrella. Guests are invited to lounge on the motorized raft affixed to the dock even if you do not rent to ride/drive (which is an additional charge and requires verified boaters’ safety course or boating license and signed liability waiver). Water shoes are highly recommended.
3 adult kayaks, 1 youth kayak, 1 canoe plus paddles and ample adult and children’s life vests are provided.
Enhance your comfort and fun by bringing your own beach towels, fishing gear, floating/water toys, bug repellant, and sun protection.
WIFI is included. No landline. Verizon is the only cell service that works in the area, so T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. mobile phones will only work when connected to WIFI.
Smart TVs in the Lodge Room, Library, Kitchen, and Main Bedroom.
Guests with mobility challenges may enter at the front via a ramp with one small step at the end. First floor sleeping options include Main Bedroom with ensuite and Sunroom with daybed and sleeper sofa. The back deck offers expansive lake views, but the long, steep walk to and from the lake may prove challenging.
This is a NO smoking property, inside and out. $500 fine for violations.
Late check-out is not possible. Inquire about booking an additional night if you need extended time.
Property is professionally cleaned and sanitized to the highest standards and does not profit the owners. 100% of cleaning fee goes to the cleaning professional.

We loved this property. While there is a serious set of stairs to descend and come back up when going down to the water, we got used to it and considered it a good workout. The place was even better than the pics on VRBO. The kitchen was well equipped with tons of glassware, dishes, silverware and pots and pans. They even had a very sharp set of kitchen knives, which I really appreciate since you're usually lucky to get one dull chef's knife at some vacation rentals. There were tons of great cozy spots to read a book or take a nap. Everyone had room to spread out and relax. The fire pit was great and we used it several nights. The dock has a nice view down the lake and we brought our own kayaks and paddle board, though there are several kayaks and a canoe provided. I was just super impressed by how big the place seemed. We made most of our meals in the kitchen and there was plenty of fridge and freezer space for all our stuff. The deck offf the living room was a frequent favorite. There was always at least one of our crew hanging out there with a book or just enjoying the lovely weather. There are many loons on the lake. I was able to get some very nice pics of a group of eight of them in our kayak. I did the whole perimeter of the lake, which is just under five miles. There is a put-in across the street from the Circle K, which will save you the logistical challenge of taking boats up and down the steep hill of the property. Overall, great stay!

We loved everything about this wonderful property! The covered front patio was a perfect spot to enjoy breakfast and coffee, even on a rainy day. The family room was a comfortable place to congregate and play games and puzzles, and the sunroom overlooking the lake offered a quiet space to read. The home is beautifully decorated and the small touches the hosts provided made us feel at home. It was a wonderful week spent at the lake!

We as a family had an amazing time at Star Lake. The home was spacious and welcoming and the description was spot on detailing how beautiful everything was. We were able to relax and enjoy all of the amenities. The motor raft was our daily enjoyment on the lake. Would definitely recommend highly and hope to go back soon.

The house is beautiful and decorated in a nice rustic manor with plenty of room to relax. The view of the lake is wonderful and we spent many hours on the raft meeting family on the sand bar on the lake. The owners are very nice and communication with them was great. They replied quickly to any questions we had. The kitchen had everything you would need for cooking and eating. The grill was clean and the fire pit area is really nice. We look forward to staying at the Lodge on Star Lake in the future!

We love to stay at this property! The communication with the owners and property manager was smooth. They were very accommodating to our scheduling challenges and we are very grateful for that. Everything you can dream of is supplied in the kitchen to make meals for a crowd. Games, deck, firepit, and fun on the water. We used the kayaks and did some hiking. Great location for that. Plenty of space for all 6 of us (4 young adults from 15-22), my husband and I and our dog. Thank you! Can't wait to visit again.

Friends and I had a great week at Star Lake - my happy place!
Kayaking, swimming, playing golf, hiking, and listening to the Loons calling to each other across the lake - what’s not to like?!
Meredith and Luke’s place at 325 Lake Road was a perfect spot to relax with friends as we caught up and hung out.
If you haven’t experienced Star Lake yet it’s time you did! It’s awesome!!

I absolutely loved staying at this property. It’s the kind of house where everyone can go off and read or think about life without feeling like everyone is on top of everyone else. The dining room is super inviting and because of the rain, we had plenty of trivial pursuit and UNO games. Hosts are outstanding on communication sending texts immediately, and I had one question and picked up my call at once. All the outdoor activities are at your fingertips and staff at the nearby Circle K are so helpful. While I caught no fish, I had a wonderful week and I would wholeheartedly recommend this property and the hosts. 10/10

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Lodge in Star Lake. It was big, beautiful, clean, and well-equipped. In short, everything we could have hoped for.
The house is very spacious with plenty of rooms for everyone to gather as well as many nooks and crannies to retreat to if you need some quiet time. We hosted my whole family of around 18-20 people one afternoon and we all fit easily and comfortably.
Every room has 1 or 2 ceiling fans and plenty of windows, so even on the 80+ degree days it was always comfortable in the house. The bathrooms were lovely with plenty of linens. The beds were all comfortable and clean. The kitchen was very well appointed. The only thing you'll need to bring from home is your food and beverages.
The property was also very nice. The fire pit in front of the house seats 10 and is a great gathering spot. Sitting down on the dock was probably our favorite thing to do when we weren't in the water. We used the provided kayaks and paddled out to the sandbar for some afternoon swimming--highly recommended. The stairs down to the water are a good source of exercise, to be sure, but still worth it once you get there--though if you're brining canoes or kayaks with you, you'll want to put them in at the boat launch in town and paddle to the house to avoid hauling them down and up the hill.
Thanks for the wonderful week!

The property is full of charm. It is whimsical and eclectic and felt very homey. It suited our large family well. The various spaces throughout the home were all much enjoyed. I've rented several VRBO property's and this had the most well appointed kitchen of any. We cooked big meals everynight and didn't want for any tools, appliances, or dishwear.
The lake is very nice. Communication with owner was very good. No complaints, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Lovely home with lots of space to relax and socialize. Highlights of the house were the firepit, lake views, and fully equipped kitchen. Owners surprised us with bottles of champagne for our 60th birthday celebration. They were easy to work with during the booking process as well as while we were there. Star Lake is a hidden gem! It has a small-town feel with very friendly people.

We loved our week on Star Lake. The house is just as described/pictured, with plenty of room for kids and adults alike, both indoors and out. Two of us worked a couple of days from the 'sunroom' which is also a great bedroom (wifi was great). We rented the raft and really enjoyed it, and we also made use of the canoe, kayaks, and fire pit. The view from the large waterfront deck is super, and the large grill/patio area on the other side is really comfy too.
The kitchen is very well-equipped for a large group - plenty of dishware and supplies.
We liked the little quirks in the house layout, though would suggest the owner add a door to the one upstairs bedroom that was missing one.
The home felt private even though there are other homes on this part of the lake. Nearby there's a Dollar General, gas station, coffee shop, and ice cream spot. We had a great hike to a fire tower that started at the Ranger School maybe 15min away. Would suggest bringing most/all of your groceries since the property is in a pleasantly remote area.

We love Star Lake. This beautiful house is located on a quiet part of the lake, just a raft or kayak ride to the sandbar. Deb was wonderful to work with and the property was immaculate. This was our first time at The Lodge and we will be back!

Exactly what we hoped
This property provided everything we needed for our comfort and convenience. And many extras. We felt at home there and were extremely pleased with its location on the lake; it was private, quiet, and with a beautiful view. The lake is perfect for paddling and swimming. The property manager was accessible and delightful to work with. It was as a definite “thumbs up” experience for everyone in our party.

Found our Gem by the Lake
We found our Gem by the Lake.
This Cabin was perfect for me and my family. From the access to the water to finding the exact measuring cup we needed for cooking, this camp had absolutely anything you needed for a comfortable and enjoyable vacation.
Th fans in every room and all over the house were a personal favorite of mine.
The kitchen had every bowl, knife, plate or accessory you would ever need, so don't worry about packing that.
The house was immaculate as well.
Make sure you rent the motorised raft as that is a must as we used it every day at the Sandbar!
Hoping to rent next year.

Beautiful cabin and lake!
We loved our stay here. The house was very well-stocked with everything you could need to move in and start your vacation right away. Each bedroom had plenty of fans and sleeping spaces and there was plenty of room for our group of 9 to have their own space and gather. The view from the porch and the dock was spectacular and the raft was fun. The quiet cove was great for swimming. Amazing lake close to good hikes!

Great house on a great lake
The property managers, Deb and Jim, were awesome throughout the entire process from booking to pre-check in, and check in through our stay. We had so much fun at the property, on the lake, and on the area hiking trails. You need to rent the raft, and at $400/week it’s a great deal. Truly a unique experience that you can’t get anywhere else. This home has everything you need for a nice family getaway. I really can’t say enough about Deb as she went above and beyond to welcome our family.

Week at the Star Lake Lodge
This property is quaint and well equipped for a large group. Deb, the property manager was available and answered questions quickly. The lake is very nice. The trek down the stairs to the water is long, so make sure to bring everything with you. There was difficulty with a few of the windows upstairs. Also, one overhead light was loose. The upstairs bathroom door does not close completely and that was very disappointing for a bathroom that had been recently redone. The house rules need to be updated and better organized. For example, the price listed in the house rules to rent the raft was $100 less than what we paid (we were asked to pay $100 more). Also, consider charging less for dogs that are only there for 2 nights. The lodge has plenty of life jackets, kayaks, rafts, etc.

Great stay!
This house was perfect for our multi family vacation! The lake is so beautiful and the house was so nice! The house really has everything you need to be comfortable-Wifi, many kitchen gadgets, fans in every room, multiple bathrooms, and spacious bedrooms. We had a great time staying there! We enjoyed kayaking, fishing and swimming. I liked that the water was shallow so the little ones that were with us could swim there too.
There is a cute coffee shop not too far that we enjoyed and an ice-cream place too.
