About this house rental
Hello! Welcome to the West Elk Wilderness Lodge.
When we think of home, we think of a place of love, laughter, and good times. These walls hold a lot of special memories for us, unwinding after a day of adventures around Gunnison.
For many decades now, many fond memories have been had with our family hunting and exploring in the nearby West Elk Wilderness, so this was a fitting name for the Lodge.
Located on the west edge of town near the Gunnison River on a 1.5-acre lot, we often have deer and fox on the property and every once in a while, a black bear. They are a delight to watch and the sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous as well. The Lodge offers the feeling of being out of town while having all of the amenities and comforts of being in town.
We are honored to open our doors to have you share in all that joy, and help you make some memories here of your own.
So, when you come in, kick off your shoes and enjoy the wonderful heated floors throughout the home. On the main floor is the first bedroom featuring a queen bed, bunk beds and also a desk area, a bathroom with a steam shower, a living and entertaining space with a pool table and piano, a kitchen and dining area, a laundry room and a morning coffee room. Upstairs you will find another family room with futon bed and game area, the master suite with a king bed, walk-in closet and bathroom with shower, and two more bedrooms with queen beds and a family-friendly bathroom with double sinks and a shower/tub combo.
This is the perfect home for your family and friends!
Sorry no long-term rentals (stays beyond 28 days), as we still like to come and enjoy the lodge ourselves. There is a long-term tenant above the detached garage. There are outside security cameras. NO PETS! This home is allergy-free with carpet throughout! Please do not rent if you need to bring your dog

This was a nice and cozy cabin right on the edge of Gunnison. There was plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed playing some pool and hanging out in the living room.

We had a wonderful time with family. We enjoyed our visit with our child at Western Colorado University. The weather was beautiful. Our evenings were spent around the fire pit enjoying the stars and great family stories. The home felt like our home for a short period of time. Thank you!!

The house is huge with lots of space to hang out. Fire pit was nice in the evenings. Lots of parking for a trailer and pickups if needed. The only negative feedback if you even call it that would be we got locked in the bathroom because the door knob was broke. There weren't enough trash bags in the kitchen to get us past the 2nd day. It may also be good to note in the ad that there is no air conditioning in the house. We survived because the nights were nice out. Overall awesome place to stay. We.loved it! Thank you.

This was a clean and spacious home for our annual girls trip. Plenty of room for all 9 adults. Great rustic feel. Good location in town. Short walk around the corner to the Gunnison river. Thirty minute commute to Crested Butte, close to Blue Mesa. Our only suggestion is back deck had a few wood boards needing replacement, which was fine for our adult group, but could be a tripping hazard for older adults or kiddos.
Overall great experience at this home. We'd stay again!

My family has stayed at many VRBO and other vacation properties from Oregon to Michigan, Montana to Texas and Arizona. This beautiful property is one of our top five favorites and the only one we have stayed at twice.
The layout is perfect for family gatherings with space to spread out, play games, watch TV, play pool or sit on the back patio with a warm fire.
Comfortable beds and luxurious toiletries in the bathes and showers were a nice upgrade from our previous stay.
I highly recommend this jewel in the Colorado mountains.

Our family of 10 was here in November for elk hunting season. The house was very well supplied with linens and towels and the kitchen was also very well supplied with everything we needed. It is located in a nice neighborhood and close to town which has a Walmart and a couple of grocery stores for last minute supplies. We would stay here again.

This large property was a good fit for a family wedding. Plenty of space and a large kitchen. I was a little surprised that there were renters in the adjoining property but they were very nice.

If you like surprises this place is for you! Your first surprise will be the email you receive 2 days before your check-in informing you of the long term tenant that lives on property above the garage. This will not only limit your parking, but access to the driveway as well. Our second surprise was being greeted by said tenant moments after our arrival informing us that we were parked incorrectly. We had not yet removed our bags from our vehicle. Off to a great start! We were greeted with our next surprise when we tried to take showers that night as we learned that the water heater had been shut off. Not turned down, but set to off. Finally, we were surprised to find out that the outdoor security cameras, so casually mentioned in the listing, are pointed at the outdoor deck and fire pit area and are absolutely active as they will tun on to watch your every move. Not that we are hiding anything, but I do like my privacy. The house itself is nice and roomy, and yes a well stocked kitchen. The toilet paper is abysmal which probably wouldn't have bothered me except for the other issues we faced. At $400+ a night, there are better options.

Enjoyed the house and was perfect for our trip. We didn’t use the house much except to sleep which was a shame because the property was awesome. Very secluded part of town so it was very quiet which we wanted. Only regret was we didn’t use the house much.

Elk cabin Gunnison Colorado
Property was great. It was in a good central location for all of our excursions. Cabin was exactly what we expected down to the decor. Floor plan would have been helpful. There was a lot of construction near the property that added noise when enjoying the patio. Overall very satisfied with the property.

The property met our needs perfectly. We had room to play card games, play pool and watch sporting events on TV all at the same time. Beds were super comfortable and kitchen was amply supplied with all the necessary cooking utensils. Very responsive property manager.

This property is awesome for big family gathering! My son graduated from Western and there was 8 adults and 1 child more than enough room and space for all. Loved it being in town and my son's house was literally 1 block away. Truly a great property!!!

The house was lovely and we would stay there again.
Beautiful home, well equipped kitchen, lots of pretty sheets, pillows, and towels, you can tell the owners love their home❤️ It’s also a great location right in town which worked well for our family.
However, 48 hours prior to arrival, we were informed the central heating system was inoperable. The property managers provided several space heaters which were sufficient for the mild temperatures we experienced while there (50’s-60’s during the day, 19-21 in the mornings so a little cool). Additionally, they allowed us to use the wood burning stove which is not allowed for rentals, but informed us we would be responsible for providing the wood. The repairman did not come for 6 days and then informed us it would be another week before he could get the correct parts so no central heat our entire stay. A couple of mouse traps would have been handy to handle the field mice who decided to visit. That’s no big deal for us, it happens, and it is in the woods! The only other issue we experienced was that the ice maker did not seem to be operating at the normal rate for our group of 9.
All this being said we would definitely stay in this lovely home again and look forward to it!

Nice property and location
This property is located convenient to downtown Gunnison and is in a quiet neighborhood. We only had 4 people so it was very spacious. Well-appointed kitchen with everything you'll need. The Roku-TV in the living room was a nice touch--you can log into all your favorite streaming services and it's just like you were at home. Having the garage was great for our motorcycles. Kelsey the local property manager was very responsive. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful home, beautiful place, beautiful trip
This house was everything we thought it would be, lots of charm, great location and had everything we needed to make the most of our trip to Gunnison. It was well stocked with everything you needed in a kitchen and had plenty of linens. The beds were very comfortable. It was very nice to sit out back, use the grill and enjoy the most amazing weather. Also, there is a neighbor who is incredibly nice and knowledgeable about the area. Was a fantastic place to stay so that we could enjoy our offroad adventures.
