About this house rental
A great mix of cottage/farmhouse/boho-chic style is what you will find in The House in Luray. It's a quaint laid back light filled get away space with a mix of colors, patterns and textures. I am a designer and really enjoy bringing out the best properties have to offer. This was a challenging project to do with many moments of "lets see where this takes us" in deciding exactly how to custom design this early 1900's simple home.
We just finished up the remodel and are ready to share it with guests looking to experience Luray and the surrounding area. We have owned a farmhouse in the country nearby which has been in VRBO for 5 years now as well as the studio next door so we are no strangers to providing a clean, convenient, safe place for our guests. We are premiere hosts and our reviews on those properties will be a good reference source for you to check out when considering The House In Luray. Those properties are The Studio in Luray #9476004 and The Miller House #4618004.
When you arrive park in the graveled parking area beside the house and enter from the side porch where a keypad is located on the yellow door for your convenience. You will find a very open floor plan on the first floor with a kitchen, dining and living area. Mosaic tiled backsplash, butcher countertops, wood floors, neutral colors with a bit of pop hear and there and wood ceilings are many of the highlights.
We provide some basic dishes and cooking items however you will need to bring groceries, condiments etc.. if you are planning on utilizing the kitchen. We do provide a keurig and a small supply of pods and condiments for coffee, There is a toaster, mixer and microwave available for guests use. There are ice cube trays in the freezer.
The dining room seats 4 and the adjoining living room has ample seating comfortably for 4. The tv is internet only and a Netflix account is set up for house guests and you are welcome to use any apps you may have.
Around the corner In the hallway is a dresser which holds guests towels and you will find a hair dryer and basic toiletries in the nearby bathroom.
Upstairs is a small bedroom with full sized bed. In the closet you will find 2 luggage racks. check out the barn door on this bedroom. It was found in the barn on our country farm. You will also see a long ago repair patch in the hardwood floor made out of an old coffee can. Just too unique to remove.
Adjacent to that bedroom is a good sized bedroom with queen mattress. Also 2 luggage racks in the closet for your convenience. A desk/dresser and a chair. We provide a standup fan in the bedroom as well.
Take a break out on the side porch with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Its covered, so even on rainy days there's a dry space. Since the studio vacation rental next door is 2 feet from the house we have added layers of privacy without taking away from the openness of the porch. Aerial photos of the property provided in our photo book show the location of the studio to the house.
Parking is in the gravel parking area next to the house. There is room for 2 automobiles and there is also parking on the street on DeFord Ave. These areas are shared with the studio. ( trash pick up day is Wednesday morning early between 6-7 so if trash cans are out on the street please do not park near them)
Besides the charm of The House in Luray is its convenient location to many attractions in downtown Luray. The Hawksbill Brewery is just a 3 minute walk and around the other corner 5 minutes away is Baby Moons Bakery and Moon Shadows Restaurant.
Downtown shops and the Luray Greenway walking trail is also just a short walk away. You are less than 10 minutes away from Shoppers Value Foods and the Luray Shopping Center.
Most importantly it is a great neighborhood where you can walk around and see many houses with styles from the early 1900's to the 1960's from Victorians, to craftsman, and cottages, old lumber businesses and warehouses. The Art Gallery and the Luray Visitor center, which was once a train station for the Norfolk and Western Railroad and now has a museum in honor of the railroad is also within walking distance. The railroad still travels thru the town multiple times a day. The historic Greenhill Cemetery is right across the street from the house and of the 2500 graves in the cemetery, 500 are thought to be unmarked, identified only by depressions. The cemetery turns 140 years old this year. Google the cemetery and you will find some interesting stories.
The town of Luray still has a volunteer fire department and they still alert the community and their members by sounding of the alarm. It is a loud siren. I have added a white noise machine in the bedroom as many B and B’s in town as well as other short term rentals have complained but they refuse to discontinue that practice.
As I mentioned the train runs thru town a couple of times during the day as well as a night. It can also be heard from the property and anywhere in the town of Luray.
Luray Caverns and all the amenities they offer are 1.6 miles away and the entrance to Shenandoah National Park at Thornton Gap Entrance (211 east) is 35 minutes away.
The Shenandoah River which travels through the county is also nearby. Beautiful Lake Arrowhead is 15 minutes away and offers views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Amenities include, swimming, hiking, picnic areas, fishing and kayak and canoe rentals. You can check out their website on townofluray.com
We would love to have you experience our home and hope you find it to be just the place you need to be while visiting the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Very cozy and clean. Beautiful location and convenient to local attractions. The host was very helpful.

My husband and I decided to take a quick trip to the caverns and I chose this house because I love the character of older homes. The pictures don’t do it justice! The charm and decor, along with the modern renovations made this farmhouse MORE than perfect! It was centrally located within walking distance to restaurants, a brewery and many small specialty shops that we fell in love with. We will definitely be back for a longer stay next time!

Absolutley adorable little home. We planned for 4 guests but only had 2. We would all fit comfortably. Quiet area and very close to the main street. We took an evening walk and enjoyed the peaceful area. Communication was easy with quick responses. The house is well maintained and has clean and simple vibe.

Great location to town and also to the Shenandoah National Park. Loved being able to walk to our dinners and for some ice cream :)

We were only in town for one night but this location was great. An older home that Dawn has done a great job of decorating to make guests feel at home. Only negative was the bedrooms were upstairs and the bathroom was downstairs. For an older couple this wasn't ideal. Also, of note if visiting during a heat wave, the air conditioning doesn't work great upstairs but Dawn has provided fans which helped a lot.

Our stay was great. Cute little place. Perfect spot for visiting the Luray Caverns.

Quaint cottage with comfortable living space and bonus outdoor lounge chairs to enjoy an afternoon book. The property is within 30 mins of hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park. We really appreciated the ability to get to Main Street high end restaurants and an ice cream shop that had delicious flavor choices. We enjoyed ourselves and the owner was quick responding to questions.

This property was in an excellent location if you want to be able to walk into town and visit the Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. Dawn was a great host and the property was really cute and had everything we needed.

Exactly what we needed for our overnight stay. Cute little property. Just as described.

The property is as described online. Walking distance to several good restaurants, a few miles to the entrance to Shenandoah National Park, and a couple miles to Luray Caverns. The only downside to this property is the train that goes past with horns blowing several times a night and the fire department emergency siren that may go off at night. However, the owners are very clear that this is the case.

We loved our stay in Luray! This property is cute and has great access to the little downtown area. Also very close to Shenandoah National Park and the Luray caverns. The host was very responsive to communication and some minor issues we had when checking in. We would definitely stay here again!

The house was as advertised, very clean and in close proximity to main street, Luray. The only negatives were noise from the siren from fire department and train depot, and the location of the bathroom (downstairs from bedrooms). Otherwise the house was cute and well cared for.

We stayed here for two nights last weekend while we visited Luray Caverns and hiked some trails in the shenandoah park. It was my husband and I, and our two sons, eight, and six. The house is charming and cozy. The boys were entranced with all of the antiques. It's walkable to everything in Luray which was so nice. And a 5-minute drive from the caverns. Highly recommend staying here. Dawn is a wonderful hostess!

Dawn was very easy to work and communicate with as the owner. House was very clean and had great old charm. If ever in the area again, would certainly stay here again.

The house is clean and lovely, nice decor, but the town's fire alarm system is quite annoying - our sleep was disrupted by the 1:30AM siren...

From the moment we arrived we felt at ease. The place was immaculate and so cozy. We walked everywhere from getting coffee on main Street to the playground we found on our walk one night. We enjoyed the relaxation aspect of this trip and the chill vibe of the area. Thanks for making our stay great. Def would recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Had a wonderful 3 night stay at this property in Luray. Met the needs of my family to explore the caverns and Shenandoah National Park.
It is super close to restaurants (our favorite breakfast spot was Broad Porch Coffee) and is walkable to downtown Luray. It is less than 30 minutes to SNP for awesome hiking trails.
Dawn is an great host. The air conditioning stopped working and she had someone out the next day to fix it. She also let us check out a bit later so we could go to the caverns without all our stuff in the car - that was greatly appreciated.
There is a cemetery across the street and additional tombstones around the tree behind the house - so if that is going to bother you (in many Asian cultures, this is considered bad luck), then you should look for another property. We didn't have any ghostly visitors during our stay.
All in all it was the perfect apartment for our Luray/SNP stay. Thanks Dawn!

Great location for accessing things in and around Luray. Layout of rental unit was very comfortable for two people over multiple days. The bathroom layout is tight and the shower is a bit sketchy but it's all manageable.

We have never stayed in a rental like this before. It was wonderful!! We always stay in hotels but if we ever need a place in Luray again we will definitely try to stay here again. I just can't put how great a place this is into words. Thanks so much!!

We visit Luray frequently (at least two time a year) and have stayed in many different accommodations. This house is at the top of my list. Quaint and modern at the same time. Has everything you need, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. The kitchen has even more space than it looks like in the pictures. We cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for four and had plenty of space to cook and hang out while preparing. And the location is great. Short drive into Shenandoah NP for great hiking, very short walk to Hawksbill Brewery for a post-hiking beer, and close to Broadporch Coffee for some great coffee and amazing light breakfast options. And Dawn, the owner, was wonderful from the time we booked until after we checked out. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely time staying here while exploring Shenandoah Valley NP! The place had everything we needed and was decorated so cute as well. We were beyond comfortable and everything seemed orderly and so well thought out. Thank you!

The home is very cute and well decorated. It was a perfect size for our family of 3. The host left a bottle of wine and made sure everything was ok at check in. You can walk to all of the restaurants and shops on main street which was a great plus for us. My 10 year old daughter was a little freaked out by the cemetery across the street and the headstones in the backyard but also had fun looking at them and seeing how old they were. The home is very close to Shenandoah National Park which was the purpose of our trip. Overall we really enjoyed our short stay.

We really enjoyed the property! It was perfect for what we needed for a get away without the kids! Clean, tidy and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Close to all the amenities in luray and also close to the skyline drive!

This adorable vintage style home is a great get away in Luray, VA. Dawn was excellent with communication and she even let me and my group check in early as we had an event to attend in town! The decorations and cleanliness of the house make it feel some homey and I would definitely recommend this place. FYI- there is an extra VBRO right beside the home so there may be another guest staying beside the home.

This house was just the right size for the three of us, and was beautifully decorated. There were cute signs labeling many things, some unnecessary but others answering questions before they were asked. They were a great touch and made the house feel very welcoming!

Great place to stay
This was a perfect place to stay for our trip to Shenandoah National Park. House was clean, well stocked, well labeled. Neighborhood was quiet. Town was cute although we left early and returned late each day so we didn't get to experience much of the town. Dawn was easy to communicate with. She responded quickly to my messages.

Really enjoyed this space, wish we had more time to enjoy all it offers. Decorated so nicely. Very welcoming and comfortable. Clean as could be. We walked to dinner and back with ease. We’ll be back as soon as time permits!!

I stayed at this house with a couple of friends for a wedding weekend and it was perfect! The wedding venue wasn't too far away at Shenandoah, about a 15 min drive. The house was so comfortable, inviting, and fully equipped with all of the essentials. Dawn was a great communicator the entire time. Highly recommend staying at this home when you're in Luray!
