Little History
The Rested Rooster is the entire downstairs suite of the Historic home that is over 100 years old. The entire upstairs loft is the Happy Hen. While we did a complete renovation in the spring of 2016 modernized what we could while still keeping the original charm. The floors are the original and with that come creeks here and there, we think of it as a reminder of the age.
Historic homes back then had minimal ways to sound proof between floors and ceilings due largely to the design. You will find that noise travels and will hear the upstairs guests entering and exiting and such. Most of our guests are respectful and understanding to the nature of the house. If you are looking to not hear the guests upstairs this is not the rental for you.
To aid with light sleepers we do offer earplugs for light sleepers and a sound machine.
The Historic home sits one block back from a main intersection for orchard trucks and traffic going either to HWY 81 or HWY 15 with that means there will be road noise at times. The location also makes it extremely convenient to get around.
The Farmhouse itself is located very close to the intersecting road as old farmhouses were built before the roads. There is a fence running along side of the road.
We do except pets for a $75 flat pet fee. No pets other then a dog, each additional is $25. With that comes our Top Dog Package. Obviously while you're enjoying your vacation rental your pup should not have to Ruff it! We provide to use while your at the rental a sanitized pet bed, dry shampoo, Paw wipes, pet waste bags, food and water bowls, pet placemat, microfiber pet towels, and our signature endless treat jar.
The rental and property are treated for fleas and ticks. We also in between each guest have a crew that comes in with black lights to check over all carpet and floors for any pet accidents The day of checkout. Any areas are immediately sanitized and deodorized. We do not allow pets on any furniture!
We are major supporters of the ASPCA and many of our rescue farm animals on the property are from them. This pet fee has to be sent as an additional payment request.
Guest will need to do some departure procedures on check out, i.e. strip beds, clean dishes, and take trash out

Enjoy a very spacious lower suite of the farmhouse and front porches along with 1 acre yard and fire pit shared with Hen
Other things to note
This Farmhouse is over 100 years old and sits on .75 of land. As with all historic homes it sits very close to the road as the roads were built after the home. That means traffic noise! During the apple harvesting time there will be trucks.
Please keep in mind historic homes are not the best with soundproofing. We have done our best to modernize while keeping the original charm. We ask that you be respectful to the Upstairs unit during your stay. Its much like a hotel room with neighbor noise.
The farmhouse can be rented as one unit (The Freckled Farmhouse) or as two rentals. The Happy Hen has its own private entrance and is the entire upstairs. The Rested Rooster has its own private entrance and is the entire downstairs.
All guests must fill out and sign a rental agreement. Our homes are insured with vacation rental insurance which mandates this must be filled out and returned

It's at a very busy intersection with lots of traffic. Other than that it's cute, clean and easy to find. Plus there are goats.

We attend a work conference at Gettysburg College each year. The dorms are so not good for older backs and hips lol. We decided to VRBO and I found the Rested Rooster property and couldn’t be happier! Communicating with Danielle was so easy. The beds were comfortable. The house was clean. Essentials to stay us out were there waiting for us AND the coffee was delicious! Check-in was simple as was check-out. We plan to make reservations to stay here again next year. I highly recommend this property.

Easy access to all Gettysburg's events, beautiful house. Big, very clean, outdoor fire pit, alot of yard room, beautiful and calm surroundings. Traffic is moderate in that area but quiets down at night. We had a great time and will return.

Enjoyed our trip with our doggo. The downstairs rental had surprisingly large bedrooms and a very large bathroom, which was nice where we had little ones running around.
It's a historic building so if you like the vintage charm and quirks, it's great and a great value. If you're accustomed to more polished accommodations, this may not be for you. the yard is huge and my kids had fun playing in the snow. Also, there are goats next door. Did I mention the goats?

We enjoyed our stay very much. Road noise was easily drowned out by the sound machines at night. The only suggestion would be better lighting in the bathroom

Loved this cozy rental home !
The home was spotlessly clean, attractively decorated and very comfortable. There were five in our family and everyone had plenty of space to sit on the porch, eat in the well-stocked kitchen, watch tv in the comfy living room or rest in one of the the three bedrooms. The location is perfect with less than a 15 minute drive to the Gettysburg battlefield and other main attractions. The must see historical Cashtown Inn is just a mile down the road ! Our dog loved the treats set up in the doggie spa ! There was even an outdoor fire ring with lots of seats for a backyard cookout ! The only negative is that there road noise from the traffic next to the house, but there are so many positives, it was well worth staying there.

Excellent retreat for a wedding weekend
The Rested Rooster and Happy Hen (we rented both floors) are well kept, immaculately clean, and nicely decorated. True to the online description, the place is right on the road and there is some traffic noise, but we didn't find it terribly loud.
We rented the place for our daughter's wedding, about 20 minutes away. It was a really nice retreat for us, family and friends.

Awesome place to stay
The property was great! The place was clean and supplied everything from linens and dishes to shampoo and soap. They allowed us to bring our 3 dogs also. They even supplied a dog bed, bowls, treats, and dog shampoo. They are supper nice and always responded immediately if I had to text them.
