A lovely apartment for a very, very short romantic stay, but don't bring your dog

A lovely little apartment. The coffee pods were a nice addition. The pool was nice, but had to swim alone. A nice guests garden to exercise the dog, although the managing agents preferred that you didn't. Excellent for a mini romantic get away.

The managing agents rules and regulations. If we had seen these before we chose this apartment. We probably wouldn't have picked it. The code to get in the main gates, was incomplete ( There was no Hash symbol after the number) we had to be let in by the gardener, as the buzzer wasn't answered Rule 1. Removing outdoor shoes, which is a must, but not telling us that it is a tiled floor so slippers or indoor footwear is a must to bring with you. 2. Keep key in key safe when you go out. Again not telling us that there was no safe so we had to take all our valuables with us when we went out. 3. we encourage you to walk your dog down the lane. As we all know The roads in and around Dartmoor are extremely narrow and you take your life and the life of your dog in your own hands. We tried it once and were extremely terrified and concerned. The Hot tub was very romantic, however there were no chemicals to put in it. This meant that if you wanted to use it again hygienically, you would have to empty it, clean out all the ashes, and refill again. 4.Dogs are not to be left alone in the apartment. This meant that we couldn't use the lovely swimming pool together, but one at a time. This wasn't very romantic for our romantic, stress free get away.5. Clean up all dog hair, including that of the owners lovely old dog, that enjoyed our company and that of our own dog. That meant hoovering the whole apartment before we left.( Why are we paying £95 for a cleaner when we had to do the cleaning ourselves?) 6. Check out is far too early for you to do everything on the check out list, unless you get up at the crack of dawn, rush your breakfast, as to get everything in the dish washer, wait for it to finish and put everything back in the cupboards. It took too long. It was easier and quicker to hand wash it. This made our last morning very stressful and un did all the destressing of the past 3 days.

Lovely place to stay but not luxury accomodation as advertised.

The property is lovely, great location, easy enough to find but out of the way so the evenings were peaceful. Great ammenities, coffee machine, hot tub, robes, etc. The pool and sauna area are to a very high standard.

Not the amount of privacy we expected, below another apartment and joined onto what i can only assume is the owners property. Not enough was supplied for the length of the stay, we were staying for 4 nights and were only provided with 4 coffee pods for two of us. The wood fired hot tub must be filled on arrival and then the burner lit to heat it, this in total took nearly 4 hours. The majority of the pontoon lights surrounding the hottub didn’t work, again this is advertised as luxury accomodation, yet a little thing like that is left not working. The accomodation is professionally cleaned but yet on departure they request that a list of tasks are carried out, we would never leave a mess but we come away to get away from all the home stresses and chores, but yet found our selves cleaning. One of the requests on the list is that the BBQ is cleaned after use as this is not cleaned by the cleaners, on arrival we found the BBQ filthy and the fat tray below full, this meaning we could not use the BBQ the duration of our stay, things like this should be checked by the owners of the property. The pool and sauna are a part of the owners property and we personally didn’t feel comfortable enough to use the facilites as they are in close proximity to the owners living room, although this is just personal preference.

Not bad but couple of things lost it a place at the top.

Location beautiful. Sauna nice. Changing area for swim lovely and well appointed with hanging space and place to sit to change. Also had a shower in there and a separate loo area and glad there was a lock on door. Very clean and tidy throughout. Mainly good facilities throughout. Very decently stocked kitchen. Pack of biscuits and tea/coffee was a definite bonus and nice touch. Owner friendly and popped over when we arrived to see if WiFi was working (it was). Owner was helpful when I asked how to open pool doors. Seemed very nice people..not intrusive at all which was lovely. Had a visit also from an elderly dog who was sweet and just wandered in and out. Also many birds which wandered around the place. Enjoyed seeing them.

Pool was cold (to be fair the owner mentioned this when we arrived but temperature of water didn't improve at all during our stay). I still swam but the coldness was a minus as husband refused to join me as too cold for him which spoiled it a bit. Sofa was terribly uncomfortable. It sank so far felt like we were sitting on the floor. We resorted to using outside furniture cushions to make sofa sit-on-able. Bed was too small for us and mattress sank in the middle, we used cushions underneath the mattress in the centre and that helped. Could have provided a few extra sheets or a blanket. Too tired to go to find someone to ask for them as only there 3 nights. Only 1 TV remote which made watching different things a bit of a mess around. Told owner and he said he'd have to get another TV remote as should be 2 remotes there. Sky remotes x2 useless as Sky box in a cupboard in bedroom which only worked pushing buttons on box itself so had to change channel from different room..which was an awkward manoeuvre. 10am check out is unusually early. We were out by then but would have liked a slower last day. Used to around 11am most places. Hot tub took FOREVER to heat up. We were expecting 1.5hrs as most reviewers said but in practice was more like 2.5hrs to get remotely warm water. Can see a wood fired hot tub is a good economy for the owners but in practise not really a practical item for visitors. Once got it going hot tub was fab but was such a faff to do...took sooooo long..... Didn't immediately work out how to turn outside lights on so went careful after dusk especially as very rainy. Not slippy fortunately. Ceilings felt low..we did mention we're tall! Not a major thing just a bit awkward for taller visitors to this accommodation. Please get a king sized bed as there's plenty of room for it!

Lovely stay

The location is beautiful and the apartment is very modern, clean and comfortable and was decorated for Christmas which we appreciated. Free parking outside and the hot tub was lovely.

Unfortunately due to the ice the sauna and swimming pool were not able to use, and the hot tub hose which is needed to fill up the hot tub with water when you arrive was also froze over, but the homeowner replaced this soon after arriving which is appreciated. The silverware and plates are washed by guests before they leave so a few plates were not very clean, which may be worth checking before new guests arrive.

Exceptional

Everything. Myself and partner had just completed the three peaks challenge so needed some decent down time. 4 nights here with a private hotub, more ore less private pool and sauna (shared with one other apartment but we never saw them in there) gave us that. Gas bbq as well and we were set. The hotub is a log burner type so as soon as you get there start filling it. Takes about an hour and a half. Then start the log burner and just add the amount of logs on until you reach your desired heat. When you finish, put the cover back on, stick a few more logs on before you go to bed and it will be ready for the morning. These tubs heat up a lot quicker than gas/electric types and they are not an eyesore. We own one of these tubs, upgraded from an electric one because they are better.

extremely dissapointing

Sauna is good. Swimming pool is nice and tidy.

Price is far too high for the quality of the apartment. Very cheap furniture, bedding, uncomfortable old mattress and pillows. Pictures and description does not reflect reality at all. Internet is slow. Electrical condition is dangerous as well. Some spaces are full of rubbish - like old stuff, papers, broken items, boxes etc. In general not comfortable.

Did not meet expectations and not good value

It's in a lovely location in the Teign Valley. Great jumping off point for Dartmoor and South Devon seaside locations. The shared swimming pool and sauna looked excellent if only the pool had been open. The apartment has all the basics, including a dishwasher and tumble-dryer and a private hot tub, which is great if you can get it to the right temperature.

Expensive apartment but we booked a few nights as a kind of winter 'spa weekend' treat. Disappointed to find that the highly anticipated swimming pool was closed for maintenance and we had not been informed. The apartment itself is small and pretty ordinary, a far cry from the luxury accommodation we had expected for over £200/night. Cleaning was poor (dirty kitchen implements etc), the bed was small and uncomfortable and the 'smart' TV did not work well due to poor broadband connection. The shower is provided from an unpredictable mixer tap in the bath and the rest of the apartment is pretty plain and spartan with few frills or luxury touches. The private hot tub is a nice touch but is wood-fired, so takes a long time to fill and heat, and requires constant attention all evening. I'm afraid the reality of Swallows End does not match the description, nor does it deliver the expectation of exclusive luxury. Have been offered a 10% reduction for loss of the pool but had we known this was not available, we would have cancelled earlier in favour of a much cheaper option.

Very enjoyable. Great location to explore Dartmoor & surrounding area, topped off with great hot tub

Location lovely, very remote, no light pollution so stars at night were amazing to see from the hot tub! Hot tub was super & nice treat. Very clean, great facilities, detailed instructions for all appliances & things you need to know.

Minor suggestion - make clearer that the hot tub takes almost 1.5 hrs to fill & 2.5 hrs to heat on the first use. Recommend to any future guests to at least fill the hot tub as soon as you arrive so part way there when you want to lite/begin heating... We got a little caught out & it wasn't warm enough to use until 1030-11PM

Lovely stay - Thank you

Positives - Lovely hot tub, nice peaceful/secluded location, clean accommodation with lots of space. Swimming pool was a nice size and we enjoyed using these facilities. Good Wi-Fi connection and nice seating/BBQ area. Lovely stay and we would love to visit again.

- Sauna wasn't working, bushes need trimming by the hot tub as you have half a bush in your face whilst trying to relax. For the price you are paying to stay here the check in time of 4pm and check out time of 10am is a little unreasonable, the notes say this is due to Covid but 6 hours to clean seems excessive a 10am check out is rather early to vacate the property.
