nice place, next to town, well connected
the hand driers in the toilets were extremely noisy and used until late at night an since early morning, and as the walls of our room didn't have good isolation (apparently), it was extremely noisy and made sleeping difficult (we were next to the toilets). Maybe they could be disconnected after 10 PM? (or ask people to not use them)

Extremely friendly staff, up YHA's standards.
The view is amazing and the buildings are really pretty.
N/A 😉

Lovely place
Nothing to dislike

Lovely setting and friendly member of staff. Good communal spaces and facilities. Very clean.
Beds were really uncomfortable- could do with mattress being memory foam with protective cover as mattress had a dip in the middle and didn’t get much sleep.
4.3
The accommodation location and facilities were exactly what we were looking for on our trip to Cumbria.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious and well kept.
The accommodation has everything you need for your stay, and is located in the beautiful village of Grasmere.
There was nothing to dislike.

From a frosty welcome to a plastic covered hospital mattress, to a very “good riddance” goodbye I would say this hostel was not a pleasant stay! 1.90 for a cuppa and very cramped and somewhat dangerous kitchen for self catering, it’s not ideal! Cooked breakfast for £10 looked great but didn’t have it. Was quiet for a hostel which was nice but felt unwelcoming. Rooms basic, hospital mattress with plastic on them which you kind of mould into and very uncomfortable. Staff seemed pissed off if asked anything. Toilets and showers ok but take flip flops. Parking is a nightmare! Bit or a dark up hill walk to the reception if you get a parking space!!! Check In 5pm and not a moment sooner and you will wait in the cold until your turn! Didn’t like it soz
Parking
Plastic mattress
Loo roll got stuck all the time
1.90 for a cuppa
Staff were miserable

very clean, warm in spite of cold winter weather and welcoming
nothing apart from rather small(-ish) car park. Other than this we loved it and will be back soon

Very good atmosphere
Mainly no charging station in the room, WiFi and sleeper beds not good.

fairly loud, yha food is very mediocre.

The location was great
I didn't like the large hole in the centre of my room floor. I complained to the staff who were not very helpful and couldn't answer any of my health and safety questions.

The location and the facility of the hostel are great. The place is clean and well maintained. The common areas are spacious and well organized. The staff are also nice and friendly, we appreciate that they allowed us to leave our baggages while we stroll around Grasmere on the day of our checkout. :)
We stayed in the Annex building 1st floor and at night you can hear everything around your room including the guests that are walking in the hallway. The loudest source of noice i think is the slamming of the doors - it always startled us while we were sleeping. Probably to resolve this try installing Anti Slam Door Hinges specially on the toilet doors.

Perfect location very good placed beautiful place , room very clean and comfortable beds .
I think personal toilet and shower is important for me as I don’t quite like to share with people I don’t know . We had the room near toilet ,was comfortable but the hand dryer very noisy. Some paper towels will be ideal for the toilet as you don’t want to hear the hand dryer every time someone goes to toilet in the middle of the night or very early in the morning

Well situated for my planned walks. The hostel is comfortable and the cooking facilities are of a descent standard.
electric cooking hob as caused food to burn.
In the annex if people/kids are running when upstairs it creates significant noise for those in the downstairs rooms and lounge.

First time staying in a hostel with our 3 children. We had our own room which was very spacious, clean, warm and quiet. Kids thought it was great we were all in bunk beds. A bonus was to find we could order dinner on our first night which was very convenient after traveling all day. great value for money and a short walk into the village. I would absolutely stay in a YHA hostel again.

Lovely building a short walk from the village. We had shared room using bathrooms round the corner from the room. Worked well. Showers and bathrooms clean. A bit soulless on terms of socialising opportunities. Like the other YHA hostels we stayed in but the village has lots if places to hang out. Overall pleasant stay and helpful friendly staff
Everything was good for a hostel type accommodation

perfect location, everything you need in a hostel
arrived in the dark and the grounds were pretty dark

Friendly and helpful staff. Spirit if a YH.
Quiet, especially after 8pm. So good. I will gravitate back here. Best option in the area for me. Beautiful surroundings, better than the hotels due to land space. May the place survive very long like this.
Nothing I can think of. Check in time of 5pm is normal for YHA.

It is a hostel and it is exactly that. Don’t be expecting a hotel room. It is functional and does what you need to do. Lovely comfortable living room very good two course meal. 😊
We weren’t made aware when booking through booking.com that you actually need to show photo id when you check in at yha. Please be aware of this when checking in

Overall it was very good.
As regular youth hosteller; I think that the cost at Butharlyp was the highest that I have ever paid.

We just needed a place to sleep comfortably after a days walking, ready for the next days walking. Comfortable enough bunk beds, the room was warm and it’s super handy having your own sink in the room, makes sharing a bathroom a lot more pleasant. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.
