About this house rental
Hamakua Pukana La Hale
Welcome to Hamakua Pukana La Hale – A Brand New Vacation Rental!
This beautifully decorated 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is located on a private acre parcel along the Hamakua Coast just north of Hilo! This brand new vacation rental home with ocean views sleeps 7, max 4 adults and 3 kiddos. The landscaping and grounds are spectacular, featuring a 6 foot tall Buddha and meditation space as well. The French doors open to allow those trade winds to fill the home. No air conditioning needed here! December – March is whale season, and you’ll have a front row seat for all the whale activity that you can possibly take in.
The kitchen is large and easy to work in and of course has all the amenities that you will need to cook up those scrumptious island meals. The master bedroom with its en-suite bath, king size bed, private ocean view, screened in lanai is the perfect escape after a long day of sightseeing. The first guest room has a queen bed, and the 2nd guest room has a bunk bed for the younger kids with a full on bottom and twin on top.
From this convenient location, explore old Hilo town with its great farmers market and historical museums and must see stops. Also discover beautiful Akaka Water Falls Park and the Old Mamalahoa Highway, the original highway built back in the 20’s that took you from Hilo town to the beautiful horse country of Waimea.
From the house, you’re only a short 20 minute drive to the south to Hilo (many beach parks and snorkel spots here), 20 minutes to the north to Honokaa town, Waipio Valley and from there just another few minutes to the beautiful white sandy Hapuna Beach.

Peaceful retreat
The location of this rental is surrounded by greenery. It's on the rainy outside of the island so do expect some rain. Everything you need is provided. The beds are comfortable and the linens are clean. The washer and dryer was very convenient. The host was quick to respond when we tried to contact them. Grab groceries before you head here it's about 35 minute drive from Hilo. The drive to Kona is beautiful. If you plan to do activities I would book a couple in one day, due to the driving time. Beach supplies were also included which was very nice.

Lovely View From the Hamakua Coast
The view from the lanai and living room is awesome. We could easily see over the first tier of homes. Quite close to the highway, but noise wasn't a problem. The beds were comfortable, kitchen well-appointed, plenty of towels and beach accessories. The furniture is nice (just wish there was more of it in the living room). Very close to Akaka Falls, but about 20 minutes from Hilo. The mosquitoes are horrible--come prepared with deet! Also, not enough laundry or dish soap is provided (rather silly, considering what renters are paying). The single story layout was perfect for my 85-yr-old mother, although she did note a lack of grab bars. I do recommend this home, but you'll enjoy it more if you're prepared!

We loved our accommodations.
We loved our accommodations. Everything about the house was up to my expectations. Beautiful morning sunrises over the ocean.

Merrie
We were overall very happy with this home. It was comfortable, clean, had sufficient amount of amenities, and the TV was SMART - so a few latest technologies were included. The home was a bit out of the way for us, as the reason for the trip being our attendance at the Merrie Monarch festival in Hilo, the description and directions to the home were very accurate. My only comment, which is strictly personal, is I would choose other accent decor...the tikiʻs, tribal masks, and little coconut figurines kind of weirded us out from a local perspective. Again, only personal opinion. Otherwise, Hamakua Pukana La Hale was a lovely vacation getaway! Mahalo!

Honokaa coast stay
The house served our needs and had some nice features. We would have like to have had kitchen towels and better lighting in the living area. The road noise was a bit of a surprise though we adjusted ourselves to it. Loved the sound of the cokey frogs.

A lovely Hilo stay!
The house was the perfect spot for our family. We loved being away from crowds, although finding that street the first night was a bit tricky! The beds were comfortable and the water pressure was impressive! The pictures of the outside were a bit deceptive as you don't have much of an ocean view and the yard was much smaller than expected based on photos, but we weren't home much anyway, so other than a little laugh at how different the outside was from expected, it didn't diminish our enjoyment of the property.

beautiful home!
This home was incredible. The view was outstanding, it was like something you dream of. Highly recommend. Pros- The view! Very well maintained Comfortable furniture Lots of beach accessories Beautiful screened in lanai for when the mosquitoes get too hungry Amazing yard Great for family Secluded and quiet Great property manager and attentive Cons No grocery store close by - unless you go to the country market which does not open until 10. A bit hard to find, especially in the dark Water pressure was iffy. Had to call twice for it to be fixed, but they have a very nice guy on staff to fix the problem. No dishwasher, which was a problem during the low water pressure times. No wine glasses - (issue is now fixed as we bought some from target and left behind! :) ) Coffee pot could be upgraded Overall the cons we felt were very minimal things (except the water but hopefully they fix the problem!) It is a little far from everything so expect to drive- the flipside of that is that it is a beautiful drive! Our favorite close-by spot was Laupahoehoe beach park (10 min) and Waimea Town (30min). Our suggestion is to get groceries before arriving to the house if you can, each big store is about 30-40 min drive. Be sure to pack a sweater because you'll want to watch the sunrise from the lanai but it can feel a little chilly!
