About this house rental
Summary:
This newly renovated 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom beach house was designed for families looking for a large space to enjoy a quiet island getaway to the picturesque coastal town of Dauphin Island. The two-story home features 30-foot vaulted ceilings, two separate kitchens and living rooms, two cozy reading nooks, and three large patio areas that provide endless entertaining options for the whole family. Get a true taste of island life on Isle Dauphine with a stay at this beautiful Gulf Coast getaway.
The Space:
Located on the East End of Dauphin Island, this spacious island getaway is located across the street from Buchanan Bay, which is accessible via a small park that has water access for kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming.
Guest Access:
Because of the ideal location of the property on the East End, guests can take a quick drive or easily bike or walk to nearby attractions and restaurants. Although there is no public transportation, there are miles of walking and biking trails around the island that makes getting around a breeze. There is parking for up to 4 cars in the driveway in front of the home.
The Neighborhood:
The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is about a 15-minute walk (.7 miles) from the steps of Weekend Away located on Dolive Avenue. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.
The Mobile Bay Ferry, which is located just around the corner from the bird sanctuary, is only 1 mile from the Weekend Away. The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama. And just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown.
The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within two miles of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach. The closest beach access to Weekend Away is the East End Beach, which a little more than a mile away past Fort Gaines (a 6-minute drive).
With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.
Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the gulf.
We hope you enjoy your stay at Weekend Away and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!

Very nice as advertised

This house was beautiful and the location was great! We loved all the fun board games that were provided and they came in handy since it rained for half of our stay on Dauphin Island. The layout of the house was perfect and the furniture comfortable - lots of space to spread out and relax! The only issues we had were the oven was not cleaned and smoked quite a bit when we tried to use it, the fridge upstairs was not working for the first day of our stay but a repair man was eventually sent out to look at it, and the wood on one of the hammocks out back had rotted and broke when one of children was in it (didn't get hurt luckily!). Because the house itself was so nicely decorated and stocked, and the location convenient to the beaches and other attractions on the island, we would stay here again through and would recommend it to our friends.

House was in a great location. Easy drive to the beach near the Fort. We loved front porch sitting and the layout of the house. Perfect for our two families with kids ranging from 2-15! Would highly recommend.

Who is so excited to stay here in a pot arrival was very disappointed. Furniture outback is falling apart garbage all in the yard open the doors to get in or we could smell was vomit scared to say because we thought the people there before us have been sick or wiped everything down with alcohol and then sprayed it with Lysol couldn’t figure out where the smell of vomit was coming from the place was completely filthy. The cleaning crew is obviously not doing their job. We finally figured out where the smell is coming from and it was the sheets bathrooms are filthy refrigerator was dirty behind on doors, and under the bed or hair balls of hair. I should say the girls are not cleaning like I said we will definitely not say that again, as my title said, very disappointing.

if your looking for a place to get away, slow down from the hustle and bustle, and relax this is the perfect place for you. although not directly on the water, it is a short drive to anywhere on the island. i was let down that you had to pay $10 a day to go to all the public beaches and the water wasn’t crystal clear…but the house was magnificent. we loved it. it was spacious and beautiful. we did get our workout climbing up the steps a lot but it was good for us! the owners were so helpful anytime we needed anything! we would definitely stay there again!

The house was beautiful. We loved our stay and exploring Dauphin Island. We enjoyed morning walks with our dog around the neighborhood. The beaches are great.
We very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again.

Perfect location super easy to get to all 3 beaches. We had so much fun. Love the outside shower for kids after the beach. The hammocks are awesome. Beds are comfy. Dryer is super high for us short people but worked great. House was super comfy for 4 adults and 6 kids with beds left over. Loved it.

The place itself is pretty nice and it’s a good location but management was not great. The floors were dirty and sheets questionable. Some lights didn’t work and there were a some holes where hooks are. These aspects soured our initial experience especially when we booked during a high priced week.

The house easily accommodated three families with children and was close to everything. Clean and quiet. We would stay here again.

Great property, quiet, relaxing, with lots to do and everything in close proximity. Very nice having the upstairs and downstairs with 2 separate living spaces.

This house is perfect for any size family. I have an adult disabled vet that can't make the stairs and he needs to have his own spot. So the downstairs with a mini kitchenette was perfect. The upstairs has an amazing kitchen and a peek a Boo view of the bay. We also have 2 dogs, the short walk to a little beach was perfect for them. Thank u guys so much

We enjoyed our annual Christmas beach trip, this time on Dauphin Island. The property is an easy cycle to the Sea Lab & Fort Gaines riding east, and to the Lighthouse Bakery going west. No, not on the beach, but there's a lot more to Dauphin Island than just the beach. It was an enjoyable stay indeed.

We enjoyed our stay! The home had plenty of room, was beautiful and very clean. It’s not directly on the water but it’s very close to everything and just a few minutes drive to the public beaches. The neighborhood was very quiet also. Great time!

We met our best friends & their kids - 4 adults and 6 kids total. The rooms were perfect. A king suite for each couple and a bunk room for the boys & one for the girls. Beautiful, clean, and close to everything. Rocking chairs on the porch and a cute shower outside to keep the sand at a minimum. Definitely recommend!!
